Installation
Unassembled Parts
Use the parts list below to verify that all parts have been shipped.
Item | Description | Qty. | Use |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Aerator Cylinder Assembly | 1 | Attach the aerator cylinder. |
2 | No parts required | – | Attach the arm assembly. |
3 | No parts required | – | Complete the installation. |
For greater traction, a counterweight kit (100-6442) can be added to the front of the machine. Note: If the machine has a front lift system or snow blower, the counterweight kit will not fit due to physical interference.
Attaching the Aerator Cylinder
Parts needed for this procedure:
- 1. Aerator Cylinder Assembly
Figure 3: Attaching the Aerator Cylinder
[Diagram showing the attachment of the aerator cylinder]
Procedure
Note: Identify the left and right side of the machine from the normal operating position.
- Remove any attachment from the rear of the machine.
- Move the tractor backward to position it in front of the attachment adapter. Lower the tractor adapter.
- Raise the tractor adapter into the attachment adapter.
- Rotate the locking lever to the right to lock the adapters together.
2. Adjusting the Arm Assembly
No parts required.
Procedure
- After securing and locking the attachment to the tractor, raise the attachment.
- Measure the clearance between the upper washer and the arm assembly spacer on the attachment adapter, as shown in Figure 4. Important: The clearance between the washer and the "foot" must be 1.5 to 2.0 mm (0.060" to 0.080").

Operation
Checking and Cleaning the Aerator Cylinder
When the aeration job is complete, clean the machine thoroughly. Since this machine is primarily used in sand, which causes significant friction and wear, the sand must be rinsed off after each use. If the machine is cleaned frequently (before sand builds up and "sets"), you can clean it with a hose, without the "nozzle." Important: Do not use high-pressure water for cleaning the machine. A high-pressure stream can force sand and other materials into sliding surfaces, causing severe friction and wear.
Note: If the attachment adapter "sticks" to the tractor adapter, insert a small pry bar or screwdriver into the release slot to separate the components.

Operating Tips
- Before starting aeration with the attachment, find an open area and practice starting, stopping, raising, lowering, and aerating. This practice will help you become familiar with the operation and control of the aerator cylinder.
- Maintain a straight path while aerating. Do not turn while the aerator blades are in the ground.
- Drive the tractor at a slow, steady pace to achieve uniform aeration.
- When you reach the end of the turf (green), raise the aerator cylinder before turning or stopping. The aerator cylinder must be fully raised before turning.
- Check the turf (green) for obstacles, such as sprinkler heads or protruding objects, that could be damaged or cause damage to the aerator cylinder.
- Adjust the penetration depth by adjusting the lift/lower valve and comparing it to the aerator cylinder depth indicator. A Variable Rate Kit is available for precise adjustment of the penetration depth.
Maintenance
Lubricating the Attachment Adapter
If the locking lever on the attachment adapter does not move freely and easily, apply a thin layer of grease to the area shown in Figure 6.

[Diagram showing the lubrication point]
Adjusting the Compression Springs and Ball Joints
The springs and ball joints are factory-adjusted. However, if new parts are installed or parts are removed for any reason, the length of the springs and ball joints must be adjusted as shown in Figure 7.

1. 10.1 to 10.4 cm (3.98" to 4.10")
2. 4 to 4.23 cm (1.56" to 1.68")
