Sensor Supply 5 Circuit Diagram
The diagram illustrates the Sensor Supply 5 circuit, showing connections from the Engine Control Module (ECM) Connector J2 (OEM) to various sensors including Analog Accelerator, Pulse Width Modulation Accelerator, Remote Accelerator Pedal/Lever Assembly, Engine Coolant Level Sensor, Aftertreatment DPF Differential/Outlet Pressure Sensor, Fuel Level Sensor, and Fan Speed Sensor. It also shows connections to Aftertreatment Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Unit and Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pressure sensors. Key components include 5-volt supply lines, signal lines, and return lines.
Key Connections:
- ECM Connector J2 (OEM): Sensor 4 (Pin 09), Sensor 5 (Pin 08), Position 1 (Pin 33), Position 2 (Pin 61)
- Aftertreatment DPF Differential/Outlet Pressure Sensor: Supply (Pin 09), Return (Pin 08), Signal (Pin 10)
- Aftertreatment Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Unit: Supply (Pin 01), Return (Pin 02), Signal (Pin 11)
- Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pressure: Signal (Pin 03)
Circuit Description
The sensor supply 5 circuit of the engine control module (ECM) provides a 5-volt supply for various aftertreatment and OEM sensors.
Component Location
Sensor Supply 5 originates in the OEM connector portion of the ECM.
Conditions For Running The Diagnostics
This diagnostic runs continuously when the keyswitch is in the ON position or when the engine is running.
Conditions For Setting The Fault Codes
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected the sensor supply 5 signal voltage was out of range low.
Action Taken When The Fault Code Is Active
- The ECM illuminates the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp and/or the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
- The engine will have limp-home throttle control only.
Conditions For Clearing The Fault Code
- To validate the repair, perform a key cycle, start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute.
- The fault code status displayed by the recommended Cummins electronic service tool or equivalent will change to INACTIVE immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
- The ECM will turn off the amber CHECK ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
- For On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) engines, the ECM will extinguish the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) after three consecutive trips where the diagnostic runs and passes.
- The "Reset All Faults" command in the recommended Cummins electronic service tool or equivalent can be used to clear active and inactive faults, as well as extinguish the MIL for OBD applications.
Shoptalk
Low voltage on the 5-volt supply wire can be caused by a short circuit to ground in a supply wire, a short circuit between a supply wire and a return wire, a damaged sensor, or a damaged ECM power supply. Reference the appropriate OEM wiring diagram when troubleshooting circuits that utilize wiring supplied by the OEM. For intermittent power supply and datalink communication issues with Aftertreatment Components, it is highly recommended that the OEM Power Distribution Center fuses and relays be thoroughly checked for loose, missing or intermittent connections.
