⚠️ WARNING
When children are present, integrate the pet door into child safety measures to prevent misuse and access to hazardous areas. Parents with swimming pools must ensure constant supervision and barriers. The included closing panel is primarily for aesthetics and energy conservation, not security. VEVOR is not responsible for unintended usage; purchase implies acceptance of responsibility for supervising access.
Power tools pose a high risk of severe injuries; adhere to all safety guidelines and wear appropriate safety gear.
⚠️ CAUTION
Before installation, familiarize yourself with relevant building codes. Consult a licensed contractor to assess suitability. Note that this pet door is not fire-resistant. Evaluate existing or potential hazards on either side of the door, and those arising from property modifications.
? NOTICE
Retain these guidelines and convey them to prospective owners. Inspect the intended location for electrical or plumbing interference. Ensure the support fits securely; neither too long nor too short. Installation Instructions
Mark the pet door location
- Measure and mark your pet's shoulder height on the inside of the door where you will install the pet door.
- Using a level ?, draw a vertical line where you want the center of the pet door to be located. The pet door must be level to swing properly.
[Diagram: Shows a pet's silhouette against a door, indicating shoulder height marking. Another part shows a level being used to draw a vertical line.]
Prepare the door
- If possible, remove the door from its hinges and place it on a raised level surface, such as two saw horses. The interior side of the door should face up. Ensure there is nothing underneath the door where you will cut the opening. If necessary, you can install the pet door without removing the door from its hinges.
- Cut out the correct size cutting template for your pet door.
- Tape the cutting template to the interior side of the door, matching the shoulder and center lines on the template with the lines you drew previously.
NOTICE: Ensure there is a minimum of 3 inches (8 centimeters) between the outer edge of the cutting template and the bottom and sides of the door to maintain structural integrity.
- Trace the outside edge of the cutting template, making sure to connect the corners.
- Remove the cutting template and any excess tape from the door.
[Diagram: Shows a door being prepared, with steps for positioning and tracing the template.]
Cut the pet door opening
NOTE: When drilling holes and cutting the opening, wear safety glasses and hold the drill and jigsaw with both hands at a 90-degree angle to the door.
- Drill 1/2-inch (12-millimeter) holes just inside the corners of the drawn template. These will be pilot holes for the saw blade.
- Cut between the holes you just drilled, along the drawn template lines.
[Diagram: Shows drilling pilot holes at the corners of the template and then cutting along the traced lines.]
Drill holes for the frame
- Place the interior frame (the frame with one flap ?) in the opening and mark the screw holes. (Four holes for medium/large doors, six holes for extra-large doors).
- Remove the frame and drill 1/4-inch (7-millimeter) holes in the marked locations.
[Diagram: Shows placing the interior frame and marking screw hole positions, then drilling the holes.]
Install the pet door
NOTE: If you purchased an Installation Adaptor, place the adaptor plates on the interior and exterior frames before installation. The adaptor is necessary only for doors less than 1 1/2 inches (38mm) thick. For details, contact Customer Care.
- Place the interior frame (with one flap ?) in the opening on the interior side of the door.
- Place the exterior frame (with two flaps ??) in the opening on the exterior side of the door.
- Insert screws ? through the holes in the interior and exterior frames and match screw sleeves to the end of each screw.
- Tighten the screws until the frames come together and the screw sleeves are flush with the exterior frame.
NOTICE: Use a manual screwdriver to tighten screws. Do not overtighten, as this can strip screws or warp the frame.
- For best weather resistance, caulk around the exterior frame and inside the threshold where the frames meet.
- If you removed your door from its hinges, rehang it now.
[Diagram: Shows the interior and exterior frames being fitted and secured with screws.]
Train your pet
- Lift the flaps or tape them open as you use praise and treats to encourage your pet to go through the pet door.
[Diagram: Shows a person on one side of a door encouraging a pet to go through the open pet door.]
It may help if you are on one side of the door and your pet is on the other. Do not force your pet through the pet door.
- After your pet has gone through the pet door a few times, allow the flaps to touch your pet's back so they become comfortable using the pet door on their own.
Use the closing panel
The closing panel is useful during inclement weather, or to prevent your pet from using the pet door at certain times.
- To use the closing panel, slide it into the grooves at each side of the pet door frame. Pull and release the latch to lock it in place.
[Diagram: Shows the closing panel being slid into the frame grooves and latched.]
To remove, pull the latch and slide the closing panel up and off the pet door frame.
An additional closing panel (sold separately) can be used on the exterior frame for improved weather resistance.
Replacement Flaps
Replace & Adjust
During extreme weather changes, vinyl flaps can shrink in cold months and stretch in warmer months. Easily replace or adjust to ensure a snug fit.
- To Replace: Remove screws from the interior frame of the pet door. Remove the bar and flap. Replace with a new vinyl flap, position it horizontally and vertically to fit the door frame. Replace the existing bar and tighten screws.
- To Adjust: Slightly loosen screws from the interior frame of the pet door. Slightly move the bar away from the flap. Adjust the flap horizontally and/or vertically to fit the door frame. Push the bar towards the flap and tighten screws in place.
