Safety Warnings
General Power Tool Safety Warnings
WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" refers to mains-operated (corded) or battery-operated (cordless) power tools.
- Work area safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres (e.g., presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust). Power tools create sparks which may ignite dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause loss of control.
- Electrical safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces (e.g., pipes, radiators, ranges, refrigerators). Increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool increases the risk of electric shock.
- Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. This reduces the risk of electric shock.
- Personal safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense. Do not use while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Inattention may result in serious personal injury.
- Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment (dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, hearing protection) reduces personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is off before connecting to power source/battery pack, or picking up/carrying the tool. Carrying tools with a finger on the switch or energising tools with the switch on invites accidents.
- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the tool on. A key left attached to a rotating part may result in personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance. This enables better control in unexpected situations.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose items can be caught in moving parts.
- If dust extraction/collection facilities are provided, ensure they are connected and used properly. Dust collection reduces dust-related hazards.
- Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use lead to complacency. A careless action can cause severe injury.
- Power tool use and care
- Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool does the job better and safer.
- Do not use if the switch does not turn it on and off. A tool not controlled by the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the plug from the power source/battery pack before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing. These measures reduce the risk of accidental starting.
- Store idle tools out of reach of children. Do not allow unfamiliar persons to operate the tool. Tools are dangerous in untrained hands.
- Maintain tools. Check for misalignment, binding of moving parts, breakage, or other conditions affecting operation. If damaged, have it repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained sharp tools are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
- Use the tool, accessories, and bits according to instructions, considering working conditions and work to be performed. Use for unintended operations can result in hazardous situations.
- Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery surfaces hinder safe handling and control.
- Service
- Have your tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This maintains safety.
Battery & Laser Safety Warnings
WARNING! The appliance is not to be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed. Young children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
- Do not store or use the tool and battery pack in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 40°C (e.g., inside sheds or metal buildings in summer).
- Do not incinerate the battery pack, even if damaged or worn out. The battery can explode in a fire.
Additional Safety Instructions for Laser Lights
The laser light/radiation is Class 2 (max 1mW, 650nm wavelength). While not normally an optical hazard, staring at the beam may cause flash blindness.
WARNING! Do not stare directly at the laser beam. A hazard may exist if you deliberately stare into the beam. Observe all safety instructions:
- Use and maintain the laser in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
- Never aim the beam at any person or object other than the workpiece.
- Do not deliberately aim the beam at personnel and prevent directing it towards a person's eye for longer than 0.25s.
- Always aim the beam at a sturdy workpiece without reflective surfaces (e.g., wood, rough coated surfaces). Bright shiny reflective surfaces (e.g., sheet steel) are unsuitable as the beam could reflect back at the operator.
- Do not change the laser light assembly with a different type. Repairs must only be carried out by a power tool repairer.
Use of controls, adjustments, or procedures other than specified may result in hazardous radiation exposure. Refer to Australian standards AS 2397 and AS/NZS2211 for more information on Lasers.

Operation
2. Controls
WARNING! Ensure the laser window is not at eye level or directed towards others when operating the thermometer.
Laser Pointer
The laser pointer automatically activates when the trigger is pulled, indicating the centre of the measurement area. The actual measurement area depends on the distance to the target.
Optical Range (Distance To Spot Ratio)
The 8:1 optical range ratio means that for every 8 units of distance from the surface, the measurement spot diameter is 1 unit. For example, at a distance of 80mm, the spot diameter is 10mm. For accurate results, the surface being measured should be larger than the spot diameter.
Backlight
The screen backlight automatically turns on when the trigger is pulled and shuts off after 6 seconds of inactivity.
Temperature Units
The temperature can be displayed in Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F). Press the temperature units button to toggle between them. The selected unit is shown on the top right of the display.
3. Using the Thermometer
Measuring Temperatures
- Select the desired measuring units (°C or °F).
- Hold the tool by its handle and point it towards the surface to be measured.
- Press and hold the trigger to start measuring the surface temperature. The real-time value is displayed. The 'HOLD' icon will disappear during scanning.
- Once the trigger is released, the last reading remains on screen. The 'HOLD' icon will display.
- The unit automatically turns off after 15 seconds of inactivity to conserve power.
Operating Tips
WARNING! Keep the thermometer at least 7cm away from hot surfaces to prevent damage to the unit.
- For best results, measure as close to the surface as safely possible. Measuring at moderate distances is possible, but external light sources may affect readings.
- Clean surfaces covered with frost, oil, or grime before measuring.
- If a surface is highly reflective, apply masking tape or flat black paint before measuring.
- Steam, dust, or smoke can obscure measurements.
- Measurements cannot be made through transparent surfaces (e.g., glass) as the surface may skew the reading.
- Keep the thermometer lens clean and free of scratches.
- To improve accuracy, allow the thermometer to acclimatise to the surrounding temperature before use.
Troubleshooting
- Laser does not turn on: Batteries may be depleted. Ensure a fully charged battery is inserted correctly.
- ERR Reading: If the thermometer was stored outside the recommended temperature range (-5 to 55°C), the text 'ERR' may display. Allow the tool to return to the storage temperature range before use.
- Short Battery Life: Excessive use of the LCD display backlight will deplete batteries faster.
Maintenance
- When not in use, store the tool in a dry, frost-free location, out of reach of children.
- If the housing requires cleaning, use only a soft cloth; do not use solvents.
