Important Safeguards

Getting to Know Your Coffee Maker
Your Cuisinart 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker includes:
- Lid: Hinged for easy access to the water reservoir and filter basket.
- Water Reservoir: With water level indicator markings.
- Showerhead: Distributes water evenly over coffee grounds.
- Filter Basket: Holds a standard paper filter or the included permanent filter.
- Permanent Filter: Reusable gold-tone filter.
- Carafe: 14-cup capacity glass carafe with measurement markings and a comfortable handle.
- Warming Plate: Keeps coffee warm after brewing.
- Control Panel: Features buttons for programming and brewing functions.

Control Panel Functions:
- ON/OFF Button: Powers the unit on or off. The indicator light illuminates when on.
- PROGRAM Button: Sets the auto-brew time.
- HOUR Button: Sets the hour for the PROGRAM function.
- MINUTE Button: Sets the minute for the PROGRAM function.
- BREW/OFF Button: Starts or stops the brewing cycle.
- AUTO/ON Button: Activates the programmed auto-brew feature.

Before First Use
Before using your Cuisinart coffee maker for the first time, it is recommended to:
- Unpack the coffee maker and remove all packaging materials.
- Wash the carafe, lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
- Run two full brewing cycles using only water (no coffee grounds) to clean the internal components. Discard the water after each cycle.
Brewing Coffee
- Ensure the coffee maker is plugged into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to the desired level, using the water level indicator. Do not overfill.
- Place a paper filter (or the permanent filter) into the filter basket.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. A general guideline is 1 tablespoon of coffee per cup, but adjust to your preference.
- Close the lid securely.
- Place the carafe, with its lid on, onto the warming plate.
- Press the BREW/OFF button. The indicator light will illuminate, and brewing will begin.
- Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker will beep three times. The warming plate will keep the coffee hot.
- To turn off the warming plate, press the BREW/OFF button again.
Programming Features
Auto-Brew:
- Ensure the coffee maker is plugged in and the clock is set correctly (use HOUR and MINUTE buttons).
- Add water and coffee grounds as usual.
- Press the PROGRAM button. The PROGRAM indicator light will flash.
- Use the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the desired brew start time.
- Press the PROGRAM button again to confirm the time. The PROGRAM indicator light will remain lit.
- Press the AUTO/ON button. The AUTO indicator light will illuminate, and the coffee maker will automatically start brewing at the set time.
- To cancel Auto-Brew, press the AUTO/ON button again.
24-Hour Keeper:
Press the 24-HOUR KEEPER button after brewing to keep the warming plate on for up to 4 hours. The indicator light will illuminate. Press the button again to turn it off.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and taste. Always unplug the coffee maker and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Carafe, Lid, and Filter Basket: Wash in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Warming Plate: Wipe with a damp cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners.
- Exterior: Wipe with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth.
- Descaling: To remove mineral deposits, use a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Fill the reservoir with this solution and run a brew cycle. Follow with two cycles of fresh water to rinse. Perform descaling every 1-3 months depending on water hardness.
Troubleshooting
Coffee maker does not turn on:
- Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet.
- Check if the ON/OFF button has been pressed.
Coffee is not brewing:
- Ensure the water reservoir has sufficient water.
- Check that the lid is closed properly.
- Make sure the BREW/OFF button has been pressed.
Coffee overflows filter basket:
- Too much ground coffee may have been used.
- The filter may not be seated correctly.
- The coffee maker may need descaling.
