Warnings

Ensure you read this user manual before installing and using the product. Babysense is a high quality, high sensitivity electronic device, which must be handled with care:

Safety Instructions for Hub AC Power Adapter

Important Notes

Babysense monitors and alerts, but cannot prevent any type of distress. The responsibility for applying first aid rests with caretakers. The Babysense senses movements and motion only, and cannot monitor other occurrences. The purpose of the device is to alert when stopping or slowing of movement occurs.

Babysense is a unique safety and reassurance system that helps give parents peace of mind, alerting if movements stop or become irregularly slow, providing time to intervene. There are several cautionary steps internationally applicable for SAFE SLEEPING:

Babysense Connect is a home movement monitor for infants up to one year of age and is not to be used with high-risk infants requiring constant medical supervision. Medically trained staff such as nurses, or non-medically trained users such as parents or caregivers may use the Babysense Connect. Babysense Connect is intended for home use.

Principle of Operation

Babysense continually detects the baby's movements and will trigger a sound and visual alarm if movement stops within 20 seconds or if the monitor detects less than 10 micro-movements per minute. The system's non-touch, under-the-mattress sensor pads monitor the baby's movement without restraining them.

Installation

  1. Battery Installation: Remove the battery cover (see illustration 7). Insert 4 new and identical Alkaline size AA 1.5 volt batteries or the rechargeable batteries (www.babysensemonitors.com/pages/bs-connect-batteries for applicable list) into the battery compartment, observing correct polarity. Close the cover. Note: Once batteries are inserted, the Blue LED will flash 3 times, indicating activation.
  2. Control Unit Holder: Place the control unit holder on the base of the crib or bed, between two bars.
  3. Sensor Pad Installation: In a crib/bassinet, place the two sensor pads at equal distances from the sides, positioned in the first and third quarters of the crib/bassinet. Note: The sensors should be placed with the marking "THIS SIDE UP" facing upwards.
  4. Spring Base Cribs: If using a crib/bed with a spring base, place an extra wooden board (plywood), at least 17'' x 11'' and 1/2'' thick, under each sensor pad.
  5. Cord Management: Pass the cords of the sensor pads through the special openings in the holder.
  6. Connect Sensor Pads: Attach sensor pad connectors to the outlets marked "SENSOR" on the back of the control unit. Note: Do not insert any cable into the blocked socket marked "DO NOT USE".
  7. Alternative Mounting: If the crib design does not allow proper installation with the control unit holder, use the supplied hanging hook. Hang the control unit from the bottom edge of the crib or affix the hook with a screw (not supplied) to the bottom edge of the crib.
  8. Secure Control Unit: Press the control unit holder or hanging hook firmly and fully into the slot in the back of the control unit. Important: To avoid possible danger from sensor cords, ensure that excess cords are pulled back under the mattress, secured with the included cable tie, and are not visible or reachable.
  9. Place Mattress: Place the mattress securely on top of the sensor pads, ensuring firm contact between the mattress and sensor pads is established.
  10. App Download: Download the "Babysense" app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  11. Hub Setup: To stabilize connectivity and allow continuous communication between the Babysense Connect and the app, place the hub in the same room as the Babysense Connect and ensure it is within Wi-Fi range. Install and pair the hub as per the app instructions.
    • Hub Wall Mount (To Apply): Remove the liner (1) and adhere one half of the double-sided hook and loop strip to the wall (2) above the electrical outlet. Press the hub hook to the hook and loop strip on the wall (3). Attach the hub to the hub hook (4).
    • Hub Wall Mount (To Remove): Remove the Hub and the hub hook from the adhesive hook and loop strip on the wall. Hold the strip (5) and gently pull the tab down (6) until the strip loosens completely off the wall.
  12. Hub Power: Connect the power adapter to the electrical outlet and the Hub. The LED on the side of the HUB will be on to indicate power. If no LED is visible, the HUB is not receiving power. Note: When plugging in the Hub, wait 2 minutes before pairing with the cellular device. Note: Once the Hub is installed and connected, Bluetooth can be turned off on your cellular device.

Layout of Control Unit

Refer to illustration 8 for the layout of the control unit:

Operation

Warning: The green LED (power indicator) does not indicate baby movements; it only confirms the Babysense Connect Monitor is ON. When movement is sensed, the green movement LED light flashes.

Babysense is ready for operation after installation is completed. To operate:

  1. Place your baby in the crib/bed.
  2. Turn the control unit on by pressing the ON/OFF button. Ensure the Green Power Indicator LED illuminates briefly.
  3. When any movement is sensed, the green movement light flashes. Note: This indicates movement is being sensed, not the rate of movement.
  4. Acoustic and visual red alarms are activated if the baby's movement stops or slows significantly.
  5. If the Orange LED light flashes in 5-second intervals and the Green Power LED is on (low-battery warning), replace all batteries as soon as possible.
  6. If the Orange LED continuously flashes with no Green Power LED, all batteries must be replaced immediately or fully charge the rechargeable batteries (www.babysensemonitors.com/pages/bs-connect-batteries for applicable list).
  7. Turn off the control unit by pressing the ON/OFF Power Button before taking your baby out of the crib/bed. Ensure the Green LED is off and no other lights are visible, indicating the device is turned off.
  8. Ensure the auditory alarm can be heard in all locations throughout the home or place of care, and that the Babysense Connect Control Unit is hung with the LEDs facing out so they are easily visible.

Testing Operation

Babysense Connect is a highly sensitive device that monitors a baby's movements through the mattress during sleep. Malfunctions can occur due to technical issues or environmental factors.

Technical Malfunction

To minimize technical problems, follow installation and operation instructions carefully.

Environmentally Caused Malfunction

Due to the high sensitivity of Babysense Connect, fans, wind, air-conditioning, and other similar environmental devices can influence it. Such environmental factors could be picked up by the sensors at a similar level to slight movements, thus preventing or delaying alarm activation. If the Babysense Connect is concurrently used with other devices, it is required to conduct the Daily Performance Test under an environment identical to the actual situation and while all concurrently used devices are "ON". Under such conditions, verify that the acoustic and visual alarms of Babysense Connect are activated.

Daily Performance Test

Important: Do not conduct the performance test by removing the baby from the crib/bed and waiting for the alarm.

The performance test should be conducted while the baby is not in the crib/bed. Turn the device on and take two steps away from the bed. Ensure that the alarm goes off within 20 seconds (due to the absence of movement). The alarm may sound with or without preliminary ticking. Check that the alarm can be heard in all locations throughout the home or place of care. Ensure that the Babysense Connect Control Unit is hung with the LEDs facing out so they are easily visible. If the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds, refer to the "Troubleshooting Guide".

The Daily Performance Test must be conducted daily and every time you move the monitor, change bedding, or relocate the crib/bed position.

Note: The Daily Performance Test can also be performed via the Babysense App (labeled "Environmental Test").

False Alarms

Isolated cases of false alarms are possible. Should one occur, check to see if it is caused by faulty connection of sensor pads to the control unit or if there is no direct connection between the mattress and sensor pads. In case of false alarms, refer to the "Troubleshooting Guide". If the problem cannot be solved, please contact the manufacturer's service personnel.

False alarm up to 30 seconds from activatingSensor pad is out of order.Connect one sensor pad and lay the baby on the bed for 1 minute. If the alarm does not activate, the sensor pad is in order. If the alarm activates, disconnect and place the sensor pad aside. Connect the other sensor pad and repeat steps above.
False alarm after 30 seconds from activatingThe mattress is not touching the sensor pads.Make sure that the mattress and the sensor pads are touching. If necessary, to ensure a firmer connection, add plywood under the sensor pads.
False alarm after 30 seconds from activatingThe mattress is raised due to an object obstructing the connection between the sensor pads and mattress.Make sure that there are no objects next to the sensor pads or between the sensor pads and mattress.
False alarm after 30 seconds from activatingThe mattress does not enable transfer of baby movements (rigid, spring or air pocket mattress). Soft or spring bed / crib base.Place extra plywood under the sensor pad so that the sensor pad and the mattress will be tightly pressed together.
No alarm due to Incorrect testing of the monitor by taking baby out the bed to test for alarm activationPerformance test used is incorrect.Taking your baby out of the crib/bed and waiting for the alarm to activate will not properly test the natural operation of the Babysense Connect. Please review the "Daily Performance Test" section to properly test that your device is functioning correctly.
The alarm does not sound within 20 seconds when performing the Daily Performance TestEnvironmental influences detected by the sensor pads, such as wind, fan, air conditioner, baby mobile toy, vibrations.Perform the Daily Performance Test manually on the Babysense Device or via the App, which will detect the source of the movement that the device detects. For example, sources of wind such as: air conditioner, an open window or a fan; movements of a baby mobile toy (which can vibrate even if it is not turned on) or walking around the bed area. After neutralizing all environmental influences (e.g., turning off fan, removing mobile toy etc.), perform the test again. If even after neutralizing all environmental influences, the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds, perform the following:
  1. Test the control unit: Disconnect all cables from the control unit. Turn control unit on (with no cables attached). Alarm activation within 20 seconds indicates that the unit is OK; proceed to the next steps. If the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds, stop using the device and contact your local distributor.
  2. Test each sensor pad separately: Connect one sensor pad to either of the "SENSOR" sockets on the control unit. Turn control unit on and take two steps back from the bed. Alarm activation within 20 seconds indicates that the sensor is OK; perform the above procedures with the second sensor pad. If the alarm does not sound within 20 seconds, place the sensor pad aside. Note: If one or both sensor pads are not working correctly, stop using the device and contact your local distributor for further guidance.
Cellular Device and Hub did not connect"Connecting timeout" - due to lack of or interruption to the connectivity integrity. The hub cannot "detect" the cellular device.Exit and re-enter the app. On the cellular device, turn Bluetooth off and then back on. Enable and then disable Airplane Mode on the cellular device. If the above steps did not work, disconnect the hub and wait 10 seconds, then reconnect the hub to its power adapter. Wait 2 minutes and then re-pair the Cellular Device and Hub. If the above doesn't resolve the issue, please contact Babysense Support.
Unable to connect to Wi-FiThere will be an empty list of available Wi-Fi networks. Please scan again and ensure that the hub is within the Wi-Fi range. Double-check your internet and ensure Wi-Fi is on. Only supports 2.4GHz networks.
LED flashes GreenPower indicator is not activated.Hold power button down for 10 seconds to activate.
