The Raychem GM-2X and GM-2XT heating cables are designed for snow and ice melting on roofs and gutters. They are suitable for various applications including:
- Roofs made from standard materials such as tile, shingle, bitumen, tar, wood, metal, and plastic.
- Gutters made from standard materials such as metal, plastic, and wood.
- Downpipes made from standard materials such as metal and plastic.
Heating Cable Structure
The heating element of the GM-2X(T) cable consists of a self-regulating core material extruded between two copper conductors. As current flows through the core, the heating cable adjusts its heat output according to ambient conditions. This self-regulating feature eliminates hot spots and provides better temperature control, protecting roof and gutter materials.
The outer jacket of the heating cable can be either fluoropolymer (-XT), offering excellent resistance to abrasion, chemicals, and mechanical stress, or polyolefin (-X), a more economical option suitable for less demanding applications.

The heating cable length determines the number and size of breakers. Residual current device (RCD): 30 mA, maximum 500 m heating cable per RCD. Installation must be performed according to local regulations. Electrical connections to the mains must be made by a qualified electrician. Use Type C circuit breakers or slow-blow fuses.
