Important Safety Information

DANGER: Generator exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poison gas. Breathing carbon monoxide will cause nausea, dizziness, fainting or death. Operate generator outdoors only in a well-ventilated area. Never operate inside any building, including garages, basements, crawlspaces, or sheds. DANGER CARBON MONOXIDE: using a generator indoors CAN KILL YOU IN MINUTES.

WARNING: Rapid retraction of the starter cord will pull hand and arm towards the engine faster than you can let go. Unintentional startup can result in entanglement, traumatic amputation or laceration.

CAUTION: Exceeding the generator's running capacity can damage the generator and/or electrical devices connected to it. Never overload the generator.

WARNING: Operation of this equipment may create sparks that can start fires around dry vegetation.

WARNING: NEVER use this product to power life support devices or life support appliances.

DANGER: GASOLINE, GASOLINE VAPORS AND LIQUID PETROLEUM GAS (LPG) ARE HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND EXPLOSIVE.

CAUTION: Do not allow children to tamper or play with the cylinder or hose connections.

WARNING: Failure to properly ground the generator can result in electric shock.

WARNING: Do not operate or store the generator in rain, snow, or wet weather.

WARNING: During operation the muffler and exhaust fumes produced will become hot. If adequate cooling and breathing space are not supplied, or if the generator is blocked or contained, temperatures can become extremely heated and may lead to fire.

Assembly

Remove from Shipping Carton: Set carton on a flat surface, remove contents, cut box corners, and fold sides flat.

Install Wheel Kit: Requires 17mm wrench and 16mm socket. Slide M10x120 wheel bolt through washer, bushing, and wheel. Slide bolt through frame mount, and secure with M10 lock nut. Repeat for second wheel.

Install Support Leg: Attach support leg to generator frame with M8x16 flange bolt and M8 lock nuts. Tip generator onto wheels and support leg.

Connect Battery: Remove protective cover from red (+) lead. Attach red (+) lead to red (+) terminal with M5x10 flange bolt and M5 nut. Repeat for black (-) lead.

Add Engine Oil: Ensure generator is on a flat surface. Remove oil fill cap/dipstick. Add up to 1.2 qt. (1.1 L) of 10W-30 automotive oil. Do not overfill. Check oil level daily.

Add Fuel (Gasoline): Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with minimum 87 octane and less than 10% ethanol. Do not overfill the tank; leave at least 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) for expansion. Fill outdoors in a well-ventilated area. Do not pump gas directly into the generator at the gas station.

Connecting LPG Cylinder: Ensure generator fuel valve is off. Attach LPG hose to generator's LPG hose connector. Remove safety plug from cylinder valve. Attach other end of hose to cylinder and hand tighten. Check for leaks with soap and water solution. Use only approved LPG cylinders with OPD valve.

Grounding: Connect generator ground terminal to a copper rod driven into the ground using heavy gauge copper wire (12 AWG minimum). Consult an electrician for local codes.

Operation

Generator Location: Operate on a flat, level surface with at least 5 ft. (1.5m) clearance from combustible material and 3 ft. (91.4 cm) clearance on all sides for cooling. Operate in a well-ventilated area, away from vents and intakes.

Surge Protection: Use UL1449, CSA-listed, plug-in surge suppressors on outlets feeding sensitive electronic equipment.

Fuel Selector Switch: Slide switch cover to select either Gasoline (B) or LPG (A). Turn fuel valve to the vertical position to open, horizontal to close.

Starting the Engine (Gasoline, Ambient > 15°C / 59°F):

  1. Ensure generator is on a flat surface.
  2. Disconnect all electrical loads.
  3. Turn gasoline fuel valve to “ON”.
  4. Move choke lever to “100% CHOKE” (or “75% CHOKE” for warm restarts).
  5. Turn battery switch to “ON”.
  6. Turn ignition switch to “ON”.
  7. Electric Start: Press and hold ignition switch to “START”. Release when engine starts.
  8. Recoil Start: Pull starter cord slowly until resistance, then pull rapidly.
  9. Gradually move choke lever to “RUN” position over 2-5 seconds as engine starts.

Starting the Engine (LPG):

  1. Ensure generator is on a flat surface.
  2. Disconnect all electrical loads.
  3. Fully open LPG cylinder fuel knob.
  4. Turn LPG fuel valve to “ON”.
  5. Turn battery switch to “ON”.
  6. Turn ignition switch to “ON”.
  7. Electric Start: Move choke lever to “75% CHOKE”.
  8. Recoil Start: Move choke lever to “100% CHOKE”.
  9. PULL-TO-PRIME: Pull starter cord slowly until resistance, then pull rapidly with “100% Choke” 1-2 times until combustion pulses are felt.
  10. Move choke lever to “RUN” position.
  11. Pull starter cord until resistance, then pull rapidly.
  12. If engine fails to start, move choke to “100% Choke” and repeat PULL-TO-PRIME.

Stopping the Engine:

  1. Turn off and unplug all electrical loads.
  2. Let generator run at no-load for several minutes.
  3. Turn Gasoline Fuel Valve to “OFF” or LPG cylinder knob to “CLOSE”.
  4. Let engine run until fuel starvation stops the engine.
  5. Press ignition switch to “OFF”.
  6. Turn battery switch to “OFF”.

Connecting Electrical Loads: Let engine stabilize. Plug in and turn on 120/240 Volt AC loads. Do not connect 3-phase or 50 Hz loads. Do not overload the generator.

GFCI: The generator has GFCI duplex receptacles. Press the “Test” button monthly to test. Press “Reset” to restore power.

Do Not Overload Generator: Calculate running and starting watts needed. Total running watts, then add highest starting wattage.

Power Management: Add electrical load by starting the generator with no load, allowing it to stabilize, then plugging in and turning on items one at a time, allowing stabilization between each.

Operation at High Altitude: Engine power is reduced at higher altitudes. Consult Champion Power Equipment for high altitude carburetor main jets if operating above 5500 feet (1676 meters).

Maintenance and Storage

Engine Maintenance:

Maintenance Schedule: Refer to the schedule for recommended service intervals (daily, first 5 hours, every 50 hours, every 100 hours, every 250 hours, every 3 years).

Generator Maintenance: Keep generator clean and dry. Do not use a garden hose to clean. Use a damp cloth and soft bristle brush. Use an air compressor (25 PSI) to clear dirt and debris.

Storage:

Generator Battery: The generator has an automatic charging circuit. For infrequent use, connect to a trickle charger or battery maintainer. If battery is low, it may need a standard automotive charger.

Disconnect Battery: Remove protective covers. Disconnect black/negative lead, then red/positive lead. Store battery in a cool, dry place.

Charge the Battery: Use a trickle charger (not included) with a maximum rate of 1.5 amps. Charge at least once per month.
