SAFETY Wear eye protection Wear face mask Wear ear Charger: Indoor protection Use Only 1.1. ELECTRICAL SAFETY WARNING! It is the user's responsibility to check the following: Check all electrical equipment and appliances to ensure that they are safe before using. Inspect power supply leads, plugs and all electrical connections for wear and damage. Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance is safe before connecting it to the power supply. 8 DO NOT use worn or damaged cables, plugs or connectors. 9 Ensure that any faulty item is repaired or is replaced immediately by a qualified electrician. 9 If the cable or plug is damaged during use, switch off the electricity supply and remove from use. Ensure that repairs are carried out by a qualified electrician. 9 Sealey recommend that an RCD (Residual Current Device) is used with all electrical products. Important: Ensure that the voltage rating on the appliance suits the power supply to be used and that the plug is fitted with the correct fuse. 8 DO NOT pull or carry the appliance by the power cable. 8 DO NOT pull the plug from the socket by the cable. 1.2. BATTERY CHARGER SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS WARNING! DO NOT use the charging base to charge any battery other than that required for the tool. Other types of batteries may explode! 9 Inspect the plug, cable and the charging base for wear and damage to ensure items are safe before connecting to the mains power supply. If worn or damaged DO NOT use, immediately replace, or contact a qualified electrician. 9 Check cables are always protected against short circuit and overload. 9 Uncoil the power cable between the plug and the charging base before use. 8 DO NOT pull or carry the charging base by the charger power lead, or pull the plug from the mains socket by the power lead. 8 DO NOT use any other type of transformer with the charging base. 8 DO NOT try to open or dis-assemble the plug or charging base. 8 DO NOT use the plug to power any other electrical item. 9 Disconnect the charging base from the mains power supply when not in use. 8 DO NOT expose the charging base to damp or wet conditions (for indoor use only). 8 DO NOT operate the charging base if it has been dropped, or has received a sharp knock, or is damaged. Contact an authorised service agent. 8 DO NOT dismantle the charging base as this may cause damage or personal injury and will invalidate your warranty. 8 DO NOT insert foreign objects or material into the slot reserved for the battery. 8 DO NOT immediately charge a second battery. Consecutive charging will overheat the charging base. Allow the unit to cool for 15 minutes before charging the next battery. 9 Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance is safe before connecting it to the power supply. 9 Ensure that cables are always protected against short circuit and overload. 8 DO NOT use worn or damaged cables, plugs or connectors. Immediately have any faulty item replaced by a qualified electrician. 1.3. BATTERY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WARNING! Battery contains Lithium-ion which is dangerous. Handle with care to avoid damage, fire, corrosion or personal injury. 9 Charge battery prior to its first use. The battery will have been shipped in a low charge state. To reduce the risk of burns or fire: 8 DO NOT Attempt to open, disassemble, modify or service the battery pack. 8 DO NOT Crush, puncture, short external contacts or dispose of in fire or water. 8 DO NOT Expose to temperatures above 40°C (104°F). 9 Replace only with the battery pack designated for this product. 9 Use only the supplied charging base provided to charge the battery. 8 DO NOT attempt recharging the battery by means of an engine generator or a DC power source. WARNING! Dispose of spent batteries correctly as they contain Lithium-ion. DANGER! DO NOT attempt to disassemble the battery. For safety and environmental reasons DO NOT discard in domestic waste or by burning. GENERAL SAFETY 9 Disconnect the polisher from the battery unit before changing accessories, servicing or performing any maintenance. 9 Maintain the polisher and battery in good condition. Check moving parts alignment on a regular basis. 9 Replace or repair damaged parts. Use an authorised service agent and recommended parts only. Unauthorised parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty. 9 Ensure the polisher is switched off before installing the battery pack. 9 Keep the polisher and charger clean for best and safest performance. 9 Remove ill fitting clothing. Remove ties, watches, rings and other loose jewellery and contain long hair. 9 Evaluate your working area before using the polisher e.g. ceilings, floors and enclosures may contain electrical items or water piping. 9 Ensure battery pack is correctly inserted into the polisher handle and latched in place before attempting to switch on polisher. 9 Secure loose work pieces with a clamp, vice or other adequate holding device. 9 Avoid unintentional starting. 9 Wear approved safety eye protection (standard spectacles are not adequate). 9 Maintain correct balance and footing. Ensure the floor is not slippery and wear non-skid shoes. 9 Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the working area. 9 Store polisher and charger in a safe, dry, childproof area where the temperature will not exceed 104°F (40°C). 8 DO NOT use the polisher where there are flammable liquids, solids or gases, such as paint solvents, etc. 8 DO NOT allow children to operate the polisher. 8 DO NOT operate the polisher if any parts are missing as this may cause failure and/or personal injury. 8 DO NOT hold unsecured work piece in your hand. 8 DO NOT leave the polisher operating unattended. 8 DO NOT carry the polisher with your finger on the power switch. 8 DO NOT use the polisher for a task it is not designed to perform. 8 DO NOT operate the polisher when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or intoxicating medication. 8 DO NOT get the polisher or battery wet or use in damp or wet locations. 2. BATTERY CHARGING 4.1. 4.2. 4.3. 4.4. 4.5. 4.5.1. 4.6. 8 Fully charge the battery before first use. WARNING! Only recharge batteries with the charger supplied. Remove battery by squeezing buttons in on each side. Insert into battery charger. Connect charger to mains supply and red LED will light to signal charging. Once charging is complete LED turns green. Remove from mains supply, remove battery and insert into tool until a click is heard. BATTERY CHARGE STATUS TEST Press trigger, all LEDs lit: battery charged, one LED lit: battery needs charging. In order to maintain battery efficiency: DO NOT fully discharge. After every use fully charge the battery, charge every 4 months even if tool is not used. If a decrease of performance of the tool is noticed, charge the battery. 5. OPERATION WARNING! Before use, ensure that you have read and understood Section 1 Safety Instructions. 5.1. To attach/remove the applicator pad depress the chuck lock button behind the chuck (fig.1) and screw/unscrew the applicator pad. 5.2. Release the chuck lock button and check that applicator pad is locked into chuck before switching on. 5.3. Attach the battery to the polisher. Press trigger LEDs (fig.1) show charge (three lights indicate full charge). 5.4. Set the required speed by use of the speed selector switch (fig.1). 5.5. Unlock the drive lock (fig.1). 5.6. Fit and grip the side handle and start the polisher by gentle and slow application of pressure on the trigger (fig.1). 5.7. Increase/decrease the speed of the polisher using the variable speed control trigger (fig.1) to suit the task in hand. 5.8. MAINTENANCE WARNING: Always disconnect the battery before carrying out any inspection, maintenance or cleaning. 6.1. GENERAL INSPECTION 6.1.1. Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. 6.1.2. Repairs should only be carried out by an authorised service centre. 6.2. CLEANING WARNING: Always wear protective equipment including eye protection and gloves when cleaning this tool. 6.2.1. Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly and shorten the device's service life. 6.2.2. Clean the body of your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth. 6.2.3. Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts. If dry cleaning is not sufficient, a mild detergent on a mildly damp cloth is recommended. 6.2.4. Water must never come into contact with the tool. Ensure the tool is thoroughly dry before using it. 6.2.5. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes (where applicable). WARNING! Risk of Hand Arm Vibration Injury. This tool may cause Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome if its use is not managed adequately. This tool is subject to the vibration testing section of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This tool is to be operated in accordance with these instructions. Measured vibration emission value (a): 4.7m/s² Uncertainty value (k): 1.5m/s² Please note that the application of the tool to a sole specialist task may produce a different average vibration emission. We recommend that a specific evaluation of the vibration emission is conducted prior to commencing with a specialist task. A health and safety assessment by the user (or employer) will need to be carried out to determine the suitable duration of use for each tool. NB: Stated Vibration Emission values are type-test values and are intended to be typical. Whilst in use, the actual value will vary considerably from and depend on many factors. Such factors include; the operator, the task and the inserted tool or consumable. NB: ensure that the length of leader hoses is sufficient to allow unrestricted use, as this also helps to reduce vibration. The state of maintenance of the tool itself is also an important factor, a poorly maintained tool will also increase the risk of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome. Health surveillance: We recommend a programme of health surveillance to detect early symptoms of vibration injury so that management procedures can be modified accordingly. Personal protective equipment: We are not aware of any personal protective equipment (PPE) that provides protection against vibration injury that may result from the uncontrolled use of this tool. We recommend a sufficient supply of clothing (including gloves) to enable the operator to remain warm and dry and maintain good blood circulation in fingers etc. Please note that the most effective protection is prevention, please refer to the Correct Use and Maintenance section in these instructions. Guidance relating to the management of hand arm vibration can be found on the HSC website: www.hse.gov.uk - Hand-Arm Vibration at Work. BATTERY REMOVAL Under the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, Jack Sealey Ltd are required to inform potential purchasers of products containing batteries (as defined within these regulations), that they are registered with Valpak's registered compliance scheme. Jack Sealey Ltd's Batteries Producer Registration Number (BPRN) is BPRN00705. WEEE REGULATIONS Dispose of this product at the end of its working life in compliance with the EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). When the product is no longer required, it must be disposed of in an environmentally protective way. Contact your local solid waste authority for recycling information. ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories and packaging should be sorted, taken to a recycling centre and disposed of in a manner which is compatible with the environment. When the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain any fluids (if applicable) into approved containers and dispose of the product and fluids according to local regulations.
