Introduction
This user manual contains important information about your combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm's operation. To ensure proper use and trouble-free operation, please read this manual carefully and store it in a safe place for future reference.
This device is a battery-powered Wi-Fi combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm. After the device is connected to the X-Sense app, you can remotely use your smartphone to control the device, receive app push notifications, and make daily use more convenient.
All X-Sense combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms conform with regulatory requirements and are designed to detect both smoke and carbon monoxide.

CO Alarm Levels
This X-Sense smoke and carbon monoxide alarm is programmed to sound an alarm at the following CO concentrations within the time periods listed:
- 70 ppm for 60-240 minutes,
- 150 ppm for 10-50 minutes,
- and 400 ppm for 4-15 minutes.

Device Setup
Download the X-Sense Home Security App
To download the X-Sense Home Security App, scan the QR code or search for "X-Sense Home Security" in the Apple App Store or Google Play. Sign up with a valid email address. If you already have an account, make sure the app is updated to the latest version.
The app download is available via a square matrix barcode for the Apple App Store and another square matrix barcode for Google Play.
Note: Make sure your smartphone supports iOS 11 and higher, or Android 8.0 and higher.
Before Connecting Devices
Make sure that:
- You know your Wi-Fi network name and password.
- You are connecting your device using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (incompatible with 5 GHz Wi-Fi network).
- Make sure the Bluetooth on your phone is turned on.
NOTE: WHEN THE DEVICE IS CONFIGURED VIA WI-FI, MAKE SURE YOUR MOBILE PHONE AND DEVICES ARE AS CLOSE TO THE ROUTER AS POSSIBLE, WHICH CAN SPEED UP DEVICE CONFIGURATION.
Connect the Alarm to Wi-Fi
When the alarm is connected to Wi-Fi, you can receive push notifications wherever you are to stay informed of the device status, and to silence an alarm from your smartphone.
- Tap the icon [Add Device], select "Combination Smoke and CO Alarms", tap "Wi-Fi Combination Alarms", and then select "Wi-Fi Combination Alarm with Voice Alerts (XPOA-IR)" in the product list. Then, choose the installation location that matches the actual placement of the device. After that, tap "Next" to enter the next page.
- Choose the precise installation location for the alarm within the app. When an alarm is triggered, it will broadcast this designated location. That is to say, when danger occurs, the alarm will say "Warning. Smoke detected in [Location]. Evacuate." or "Warning. Carbon monoxide detected in [Location]. Move to fresh air."
- Follow the prompts on the page by pressing and holding the Test/Silence button on the alarm for 5 seconds. The device will say "Ready to connect" and the LED will flash blue rapidly, indicating that the device is waiting to connect to the Wi-Fi. Then, tap "Operation Confirmed" before the LED goes off.
- Tap "Next" to add the device, connect to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and make sure you enter the correct password. After successfully connecting, the device will say "Connected” and “Location Saved." The “Device added" page will then appear, and you can find the alarm in the device list.
- If you want to add multiple devices into the system, please repeat the above steps.
Note: If not added to the network within 60 seconds, it says "Connection failed. Please try it again." It automatically exits configuration; repeat steps for re-entry.
NOTE:
- If your router supports a dual band network with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, please create separate SSIDs for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels. This device is only compatible with a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
- To promote successful Wi-Fi connection, make sure you place the alarm within the router range, and that you enter the correct password.
App Features
The X-Sense Home Security app provides the following features:
- Push Notifications: Receive push notifications on the app for smoke/CO alarms, danger cleared, low battery, device malfunction, end of life, etc.
- Device Sharing: Share the device with your family members and friends. They will receive app push notifications for alarms and have the ability to silence the device, view historical events, etc.
- CO Alarm Precaution: Alerts you when dangerous CO concentration is detected, but has not reached the alarm status. The app will show a "CO Alarm Precaution" message, and an app push notification will be sent to your smartphone.
- Record History: Access data or check device status by tapping the Event History on the device detail page.
- Offline Notifications: Notifies you if the alarm disconnects from the Wi-Fi. Note that this notification may not be sent instantly. To ensure battery life, the device and cloud server connect periodically (but they will connect immediately in the event of an alarm).
- Change the Set Location: When you first add a device, you'll set its location. If you need to update this location later, go to the Device Settings page in the app, tap on Location, and choose a new one. Make sure the new location matches where the device is actually installed.
NOTE:
- It may take up to 12 hours for the location change to take effect, so please be patient. To conserve battery life, the device and cloud server connect periodically (but they will always connect immediately in the event of an alarm).
- To make the location change take effect immediately, briefly press the device's Test/Silent button and wait for the device to complete its self-test (do not press the button again to cancel the self-test). Once the self-test is complete, the device will flash blue light rapidly (indicating it is connecting to the cloud server). After successfully obtaining and saving the new location, the device will announce “Location Saved."
When danger occurs, the alarm will say "Warning! Smoke detected in [Location]. Evacuate." or "Warning! Carbon monoxide detected in [Location]. Move to fresh air."

Alarm Test
⚠️ WARNING!
- NEVER USE AN OPEN FLAME OF ANY KIND TO TEST THIS UNIT. YOU MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGE OR SET FIRE TO THE UNIT OR TO YOUR HOME.
- NEVER USE A VEHICLE EXHAUST TO TEST THIS UNIT. EXHAUST FUMES MAY CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE AND VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
- DO NOT STAND CLOSE TO THE ALARM WHEN THE ALARM IS SOUNDING. EXPOSURE AT CLOSE RANGE MAY BE HARMFUL TO YOUR HEARING. WHEN TESTING, STEP AWAY WHEN THE ALARM BEGINS TO SOUND.
Test Procedure

NOTE: Pressing the Test/Silence button is the recommended testing method, which can comprehensively check the sensors, electronic circuits, buzzer, battery, and other components in the alarm. Never use an open flame to test this device.
Installation
Installation Positioning
Prioritize the installation of an alarm in the bedroom and walkways, and make sure you can hear the alarm from all sleeping areas. In a home with several bedrooms, install an alarm in every bedroom. If you install only one smoke alarm in your home, install the alarm near to all bedrooms where possible, and not in a basement or furnace room. Install an alarm above the stairway and on every floor of the house. Smoke, heat and anything burning will spread horizontally after rising to the ceiling, so install the alarm in the middle of the ceiling where possible. Ensure the alarm is within working distance of all corners of the room.
If an alarm cannot be installed in the middle of a ceiling, install at a distance of 20 inches (50 cm) away from the corners of the room. If an alarm is installed on a wall, it should be at a distance of 4-12 inches (10-30 cm) below the ceiling. If the length of a room or hall is beyond 30 feet (900 cm), you will need to install several alarms in the same room. When the wall or ceiling is angled, the alarm needs to be installed within 3 feet (90 cm) of the highest wall or ceiling point (measured horizontally) in the room.
Recommended Placement Diagram
The diagram shows a house layout with recommended placement areas for alarms. The ceiling is depicted with a "DEAD AIR SPACE" area near the top edge, and a "BEST HERE" zone in the middle, with minimum acceptable zones closer to the walls. Sidewall placement is also shown, with recommendations for placement within a certain area, avoiding corners and specific zones.

How to Install This Alarm

- FAILURE TO PROPERLY INSTALL AND ACTIVATE THIS ALARM WILL PREVENT PROPER OPERATION OF THE ALARM AND WILL PREVENT ITS RESPONSE TO FIRE HAZARDS OR CO.
- THIS DEVICE'S INSTALLATION SHOULD NOT REPLACE THE CORRECT INSTALLATION, USE, AND MAINTENANCE OF FUEL-BURNING EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING PROPER VENTILATION AND EXHAUST SYSTEMS.
- TAMPERING WITH THE DEVICE MAY RESULT IN THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK OR MALFUNCTION.
- THIS DEVICE MAY NOT PREVENT THE CHRONIC EFFECTS OF CARBON MONOXIDE EXPOSURE AND MAY NOT ADEQUATELY PROTECT INDIVIDUALS AT SPECIAL RISK.
Mounting Steps
- Drill three Ø 6.0 mm holes in the wall or ceiling, then insert three plastic anchor plugs into the holes with a hammer.
- Attach the mounting bracket to the surface of the wall or ceiling with three screws and mount the alarm into the bracket by pushing them together and twisting the unit clockwise.
- Test the unit by using the Test/Silence button. Ensure the unit sounds in an alarm pattern.
Locations to Avoid
WARNING:
This product is intended for use in ordinary indoor locations of family living units. It is not designed to measure CO levels in compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) commercial or industrial standards.
- Do not install in garages, kitchens, furnace rooms or bathrooms! Do not install within 5 ft (1.5 m) of cooking appliances.
- Do not install within 3 ft (0.9 m) of the following: The door to a kitchen, or a bathroom that contains a tub or shower, forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. Avoid excessively dusty, dirty or greasy areas. Dust, grease or household chemicals can contaminate the alarm's sensors, causing the alarm to not operate properly.
- Place the alarm where drapes or other objects will not block the sensors. Smoke and CO must be able to reach the sensors to accurately detect these conditions. Do not install in peaks of vaulted ceilings, "A" frame ceilings or gabled roofs. Keep out of damp and humid areas.
- Do not place in direct sunlight and keep out of insect-infested areas. Extreme temperatures will affect the sensitivity of the smoke/CO alarm.
- Do not install in areas where the temperature is colder than 40°F (4.4°C) or hotter than 100°F (37.8°C), such as garages and unfinished attics.
- Do not install in areas where the relative humidity (RH) is above 85% or below 10%. Place away from doors and windows that open to the outside.
- Smoke alarms are not to be used with detector guards unless the combination (alarm and guard) has been evaluated and found suitable for that purpose.
- Near large metal surfaces and/or bundles of wire.
- Near fluorescent lights, amateur radios, electrical equipment, or other devices that may transmit an RF signal, as electronic noise may cause nuisance alarms.
Peak CO Concentration Memory and Reset
The peak CO concentration feature is helpful in identifying if there have been any dangerous CO readings since a peak CO concentration reset. Each time you briefly press the test button, after the device completes its self-test, the screen will display "Peak" and the CO concentration recorded since the last reset. The peak CO concentration will be shown for 5 seconds, and then the device will enter standby mode. In this example, 300 ppm was the highest CO concentration recorded since the unit was last reset.

Peak CO Concentration Reset
During the 5 seconds when the LCD displays the peak CO concentration, press and hold the test button for 3 seconds, the device will beep, the LED will flash green, and the peak CO concentration will be reset with LCD displaying "0."
NOTE:
- If the carbon monoxide concentration is lower than 30 ppm, it will not be recorded in the peak CO concentration.
- The peak CO record and reset function are only supported on the device itself and are not controllable through the app.
Alarm Modes
Alarm Mode
When the device detects smoke or CO, the unit will sound an alarm with voice and location and the LED will flash red. The app will show a "Smoke Alarm Triggered" or "CO Alarm Triggered" notification, and an app push notification will be sent to your smartphone.
When the smoke or CO concentration drops below the alarm threshold, the alarm sound will stop, and the LED will flash green once every second for 5 seconds. Then, it will automatically enter standby mode. When the alarm ends, an app push notification will be sent to your smartphone.

IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT ABOUT THE CAUSE OF THE ALARM, IT SHOULD BE ASSUMED THAT THE ALARM IS TRIGGERED BY DANGEROUS LEVELS OF SMOKE OR CARBON MONOXIDE, AND THE RESIDENCE SHOULD BE EVACUATED.
Silence Mode
Smoke Silence Mode: Press the test button during an alarm to have the unit enter silence mode. If the smoke concentration has reached an alarm level, after the silence time has expired, this unit will continue to alarm until the smoke concentration decreases to a safe, low level. Otherwise, the alarm will enter the normal mode after 9 minutes.
Note:
- If smoke levels are too high, the alarm cannot be silenced.
- If smoke levels keep increasing and go beyond the mute threshold while the alarm is silenced, the device will automatically exit silence mode and sound the alarm again.
CO Silence Mode: Press the test button during an alarm to have the unit enter silence mode. During silence mode, if the carbon monoxide concentration is still greater than 70 ppm after 6 minutes, the device will be triggered again; if not, the device will automatically exit the silence mode after 9 minutes and resume normal operation.
You will receive an instant notification from the app telling you that the device has been temporarily silenced.
Battery and End of Life
Battery Replacement
Low Battery
The LED flashes yellow once every 60 seconds. For the first 15 minutes, the device will give a verbal warning every 60 seconds. After 15 minutes, the device will stop the voice alert and beep once every 60 seconds.
(If you press the test button when there is low battery, the low battery signal will temporarily cease for 10 hours.)
Replacing Battery
- To replace the battery, detach the alarm from the mounting bracket by twisting counterclockwise.
- Remove the battery, and then install a new battery, matching the correct polarity markings.
- Test the alarm, and then mount the alarm onto the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise to lock the alarm.
⚠️ WARNING:
- Test the alarm for correct operation using the test facility, whenever the battery is replaced.
- KEEP NEW OR OLD USED BATTERIES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
- In the event of a battery leaking, do not allow the liquid to come into contact with the skin or eyes. If contact has been made, wash the affected area with copious amounts of water and seek medical advice immediately.
- NEVER charge a battery unless it is a rechargeable battery.
- Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (Ni-Cd; Ni-MH) batteries.
- Different types of batteries or new and used old batteries are not to be mixed. Do not mix batteries of different manufacturers, capacities, or sizes.
- Batteries must be inserted with the correct polarity. Replacement of a battery with an incorrect type can defeat the safeguard. There will be a risk of fire or explosion if a battery is replaced by an incorrect type.
- CONSTANT EXPOSURE TO HIGH OR LOW TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY MAY REDUCE BATTERY LIFE.
- Use only batteries specified in marking. Use of a different battery will have a detrimental effect on alarm operation.
- Test the alarm for correct operation using the test facility, whenever the battery is replaced.
End of Life
When the device reaches its end of life, the LED will flash yellow 3 times every 60 seconds. For the first 15 minutes, the device will give a verbal warning. After 15 minutes, the device will stop the voice alert and beep 3 times every 60 seconds. This end-of-life signal can be temporarily silenced for 22 hours by pressing the test button.
The end-of-life silence feature can only be used for a total of 30 days. After 30 days, the end-of-life signal cannot be silenced.

NOTE:
- Battery life is calculated on the current ratings in the standby mode with weekly testings. If its operation mode changes to an alarming condition, the battery life will be decreased accordingly.
- The alarm functions between 40 and 100°F (4.4 and 37.8°C). Prolonged exposure to temperatures outside of this range can reduce battery life and affect accuracy. X-Sense does not recommend operating the device outside of this range.
Maintenance
To keep your alarm in good working order, follow these simple steps:
- Verify the unit's alarm sound and indicator are working properly by testing the unit once a week.
- As a minimum, your alarm should be cleaned once every 3 months: Remove the unit from the ceiling and clean the alarm cover and vents with your vacuum cleaner fitted with the soft brush attachment to remove dust and dirt.
- Never use detergents or other solvents to clean the unit.
- Avoid spraying air fresheners, hair spray or other aerosols near the alarm.
- Do not paint the unit. Paint will seal the vents and interfere with the sensor's ability to detect fire or CO.
- Never attempt to disassemble the unit or clean inside. Doing so will void your warranty.
- When removed, place the alarm back in its proper location as soon as possible, to assure continuous protection from fire or carbon monoxide.
- When household cleaning supplies or similar contaminants are used, the area should be ventilated.

Emergency Procedures
If the Smoke Alarm Sounds
- Don't panic; stay calm. Follow your family's escape plan.
- Get out of the house as quickly as possible. Don't stop to get dressed or collect anything.
- Feel doors with the back of your hand before opening them.
- If a door is cool, open it slowly. Don't open a hot door. Keep doors and windows closed, unless you must escape through them.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a cloth (preferably damp).
- Take short, shallow breaths.
- Meet at your planned meeting place outside your home, and do a head count to make sure everybody got out safely.
- Call the Fire Department as soon as possible from outside. Give your address, then your name.
- Never go back inside a burning building for any reason.
- Contact your Fire Department for ideas on making your home safer.
If the CO Alarm Sounds
⚠️ WARNING
Actuation of your CO alarm indicates the presence of carbon monoxide (CO) which can KILL YOU. If alarm signal sounds:
- Operate reset/silence button (test/silence button).
- Call your emergency services (Telephone Number) [Fire Department or 911].
- Immediately move to fresh air - outdoors or by an open door/window. Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for. Do not reenter the premises nor move away from the open door/window until the emergency services responders have arrived, the premises have been aired out, and your alarm remains in its normal condition.
- After following steps 1-3, if your alarm reactivates within a 24-hour period, repeat steps 1-3 and call a qualified appliance technician (Telephone Number) to investigate for sources of CO from fuel-burning equipment and appliances, and inspect for proper operation of this equipment. If problems are identified during this inspection have the equipment serviced immediately. Note any combustion equipment not inspected by the technician and consult the manufacturers' instructions, or contact the manufacturers directly, for more information about CO safety and this equipment. Make sure that motor vehicles are not, and have not been, operating in an attached garage or adjacent to the residence.
CO Details and Limitations
More detailed information on conditions which can result in transient CO situations, such as:
- Excessive spillage or reverse venting of fuel burning appliances caused by:
- Outdoor ambient conditions such as wind direction and/or velocity, including high gusts of wind; heavy air in the vent pipes (cold/humid air with extended periods between cycles).
- Negative pressure differential resulting from the use of exhaust fans.
- Simultaneous operation of several fuel-burning appliances competing for limited internal air.
- Vent pipe connection vibrating loose from clothes dryers, furnaces, or water heaters.
- Obstructions in or unconventional vent pipe designs which amplify the above situations.
- Extended operation of unvented fuel-burning devices (range, oven, fireplace, etc.).
- Temperature inversions which can trap exhaust gasses near the ground.
- Car idling in an open or closed attached garage, or near a home.
Limitations of CO Alarms
- CO alarms may not wake up all individuals. If children or others do not readily awaken to the sound of the CO alarm, or if there are infants or family members with mobility limitations, make sure that someone assists them in the event of an emergency.
- This CO alarm will not sense carbon monoxide that does not reach the sensor. This CO alarm will only detect CO that reaches the sensor. CO may be present in other areas. Doors or other obstructions may affect the rate at which CO reaches the CO alarm. For this reason, if bedroom doors are usually closed at night, it is recommended that you install a CO alarm in each bedroom and in the hallway between them.
- CO alarms may not sense CO on another level of the house. For example, a CO alarm on the second level, near the bedrooms, may not sense CO in the basement. For this reason, one CO alarm may not give an adequate warning. Complete coverage is recommended by placing CO alarms on each level of the house.
- CO alarms may not be heard. The alarm buzzer noise level is over 85 dB at a distance of 10 feet (3 m). However, if the CO alarm is installed outside the bedroom, it may not awaken a sound sleeper or one who has recently used drugs or has been drinking alcohol. This is especially true if the door is closed or only partially open. Even persons who are awake may not hear the alarm horn if the sound is blocked by distance or closed doors. Noise from traffic, stereos, radios, televisions, air conditioners, or other appliances may even prevent alert persons from hearing the alarm horn. This CO alarm is not intended for people who are hearing impaired.
- CO alarms are not a substitute for a smoke alarm. Although fire is a source of carbon monoxide, this CO alarm does not sense smoke or fire. This CO alarm senses CO that may be escaping unnoticed from malfunctioning furnaces, appliances, or other possible sources of incomplete combustion. The installation of a smoke alarm is required for an early warning of fire.
- CO alarms are not a substitute for life insurance. Though these CO alarms warn against increasing CO levels, X-Sense does not warrant or imply in any way that they will protect lives from CO poisoning. Homeowners and renters must still insure their lives.
- CO alarms have a limited life. Although the CO alarm and all of its parts have passed many stringent tests and are designed to be as reliable as possible, any of these parts could fail at any time. Therefore, you are strongly recommended to test your CO alarm weekly.
- CO alarms are not foolproof. Like all other electronic devices, CO alarms have limitations. They can only detect CO that reaches their sensors. They may not give early warning of rising CO levels if the CO is coming from a remote part of the house, or is at some distance from the CO alarm.
