  1. Set the A-B-C Switch: The A-B-C switch is located inside the battery compartment. Set it to A, B, or C. Ensure this matches the setting on the display unit for synchronization.
  2. Install or Replace Batteries: AcuRite recommends high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries. Lithium batteries are required for the sensor in low temperatures (below -4°F / -20°C) as cold can affect alkaline battery performance. Heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not recommended.

    Steps:

    • Slide off the battery compartment cover. Note the A-B-C switch setting.
    • Insert 2 x AA batteries into the compartment, observing polarity (+/-).
    • Replace the battery cover.

    Temperature Performance: Lithium batteries: -40°F to 158°F (-40°C to 70°C). Alkaline batteries: -4°F to 158°F (-20°C to 70°C).

Display Unit Setup

  1. Set the A-B-C Switch: Locate the A-B-C switch inside the battery compartment and set it to A, B, or C. This must match the sensor's switch for synchronization.
  2. Install or Replace Batteries: Use 3 x AA alkaline batteries. Ensure correct polarity (+/-) when inserting.
    • Remove the battery compartment cover.
    • Insert 3 x AA alkaline batteries.
    • Replace the battery cover.

PLEASE DISPOSE OF OLD OR DEFECTIVE BATTERIES IN AN ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE WAY AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR LOCAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS.

BATTERY SAFETY: Clean contacts before installation. Remove batteries from equipment not in use for extended periods. Follow polarity diagrams. Promptly remove dead batteries. Dispose of used batteries properly. Use only recommended battery types. Do not incinerate, dispose of in fire, mix old/new or different battery types, use rechargeable batteries, recharge non-rechargeable batteries, or short-circuit terminals.

Intelli-Time® Clock

The Intelli-Time clock and calendar are pre-programmed and update automatically for Daylight Saving Time if the setting is ON. Select your time zone using SET mode.

Set the Time & Date

Press the "SET" button on the back of the display unit to enter SET MODE. The item being set will blink. Use the "▲" or "▼" buttons to adjust (hold for fast adjust). Press "SET" again to save and move to the next preference.

The preference set order is:

  • TIME ZONE (PST, MST, CST, EST, AST, HAST, AKST)
  • DST (Daylight Saving Time ON or OFF)
  • CLOCK HOUR
  • CLOCK MINUTE
  • CALENDAR MONTH
  • CALENDAR DATE
  • CALENDAR YEAR

SET MODE exits automatically after 30 seconds of inactivity. If you are in an area that observes Daylight Savings Time, set DST to ON.

Select Degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius

In normal display mode, press and release the "▼" button.

Select Barometric Pressure Units in Hg or hPa

In normal display mode, press and release the "▲" button.

Placement for Maximum Accuracy

Proper placement of the display unit and outdoor sensor is critical for accuracy and performance, as AcuRite sensors are sensitive to environmental conditions.

Display Unit Placement

Place the display unit in a dry area free of dirt and dust. It can stand upright for tabletop use or be wall-mounted.

Outdoor Sensor Placement

Place the sensor outside to observe outdoor conditions. It is water-resistant for general outdoor use, but placing it in an area protected from direct weather elements will extend its life. Hang the sensor using the integrated hanger or string from a suitable location, such as a well-covered tree branch. The optimal location is 4 to 8 feet above the ground in permanent shade with good air circulation.

Important Placement Guidelines

  • To ensure accurate temperature measurement, place units out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or vents.
  • The display unit and outdoor sensor must be within 330 ft (100 m) of each other.
  • To maximize wireless range, place units away from large metallic items, thick walls, metal surfaces, or other objects that may limit wireless communication.
  • To prevent wireless interference, place both units at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from electronic devices (TV, computer, microwave, radio, etc.).

Diagram illustrating placement: A television (TV) is shown 3 feet (0.91 m) away from the display unit. The outdoor sensor is shown mounted on a tree branch, with a maximum wireless range of 330 feet (100 meters) indicated.

Setup is Complete

The sensor will now synchronize with the display unit. This may take a few minutes. Refer to the troubleshooting section if issues arise.

Operation

Using the Weather Forecaster

Learning Mode

Self-Calibrating Forecasting uses an algorithm to analyze pressure changes over time to determine altitude. After 14 days, the Learning Mode icon disappears, indicating the unit is self-calibrated and ready for superior weather prediction.

Weather Forecast

AcuRite's Self-Calibrating Forecasting provides a personal forecast for the next 12 to 24 hours by collecting data from the outdoor sensor, offering pinpoint accuracy for your location.

Forecast Icons:

  • RAIN/SNOW MIX LIKELY
  • SNOW LIKELY
  • LIGHT RAIN LIKELY
  • CLOUDY

Troubleshooting

Issue Solution
No outdoor sensor reception (no bars)
  • Relocate the display unit and/or outdoor sensor. Units must be within 330 ft (100 m) of each other.
  • Ensure both units are at least 3 ft (0.9 m) away from electronics that may cause interference (TVs, microwaves, computers, etc.).
  • Use standard alkaline batteries (or lithium for the sensor in temperatures below -4°F/-20°C). Do not use heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries. Note: Synchronization after battery replacement may take up to 20 minutes.
Display screen not working
  • Check battery installation. Batteries may need replacement.
  • Reset the unit by pressing the reset button on the back. Time and date will need to be re-entered.
Outdoor temperature is flashing or showing dashes This usually indicates wireless interference.
  • Bring both sensor and display unit indoors. Remove at least one battery from each.
  • Ensure the A-B-C switch on both units matches.
  • Reinstall the battery in the outdoor sensor.
  • Reinstall the battery in the display unit.
  • Place units within a few feet of each other for about 20 minutes to establish a strong connection.
Inaccurate forecast
  • The Weather Forecast icon predicts conditions for the next 12-24 hours, not current conditions.
  • Ensure the Learning Mode icon has disappeared from the display unit. Learning Mode must complete (up to 33 days) for accurate forecasts.
  • Allow the unit to run continuously for 33 days. Battery removal or resetting restarts Learning Mode. Forecasts should be fairly accurate after 14 days.
Inaccurate temperature
  • Ensure both the display unit and sensor are placed out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources or vents (see page 7).
