The Bluetooth antenna cannot be removed or replaced by the user. Installation Precautions
- BOSS Audio Systems does not recommend self-installation. Professional installation by a certified professional is recommended.
- Always consult with a professional installer.
- Do not attempt to install or service this product yourself. Installation or servicing by untrained persons can be dangerous and may expose them to electric shock, injury, or other hazards.
- Refer any repairs to a qualified BOSS AUDIO SYSTEMS Service Center.
Before Installing
To avoid potential shorts in the electrical system, disconnect the (−) battery cable before installation. Use this unit with a 12-volt battery and negative grounding only. Failure to do so may result in fire or malfunction.
Product Safety: It is against Federal and Local laws for video to be viewed by the driver while the vehicle is in motion. This video product was intended to be used with the parking brake safety feature. Video cannot be seen without the proper parking brake powered connection. Tampering or disabling this feature will void any and all warranty. Please check with a professional installer to have your product installed properly.
Images and Video Usage
Watching video while driving is against Federal, State, and Local laws. Drive safely, know and obey traffic rules. Watching this screen and making selections while driving can lead to a serious accident. Check surroundings for safety while camera images are displayed. Do not use features of this product while driving if it cannot be operated safely and legally. Before operating smartphone Apps, read safety instructions in your Owner's Manual. When using navigation Apps, stay alert to observe real-world conditions.

Basic Product Operation
Control Details
The front panel features the following controls:
- 1. Microphone: ? For voice commands and calls.

Product Basics
Power On/Standby
- To Power ON: Touch the Power/Home button once.
- To enter Standby: Touch and hold the Power/Home button. The LED will slowly pulse on and off in Standby Mode.
Volume
- Adjust Volume: Touch the '+' or '-' buttons once for small adjustments. Touch and hold for quicker volume changes.
Mute
- To Mute: Touch the Mute/Screen Off button.
Display Off/On
- To turn Display Off: Touch and hold the Mute/Screen Off button.
- To turn Display On: Touch the display.
Using and Caring for the Touch Screen
Use: This head unit uses a Capacitive Touchscreen, similar to high-end mobile devices. Use and care for it accordingly. If fingers are wet or sweaty, the touchscreen may not function properly. Do not allow sharp objects to contact the screen glass.
Care and Cleaning: To clean the screen, use a dry microfiber cloth. Do not use ammonia, window cleaner, or other household chemicals. Abrasives should not be used.
Product Setup (Date & Time)
Setup Option A: Apple CarPlay Method
Connect your Apple® device using a Lightning® cable to the CarPlay USB port. This will automatically set up the time and date. The user must manually set the Time Zone. The default is Pacific Time Zone.
Setup Option B: Date and Time
Navigate to Settings > General > Date & Time to manually set the time and date.
Additional Setup: Refer to page 27 for General > Language, Audio > EQ, Other Audio Settings, and Display > Illumination, Brightness, LED settings.
Navigating the Menus
The system offers various modes accessible from the main screen:
- Radio: Displays tuner information, band, frequency, and scan options.
- Streaming: For audio playback from connected devices.
- Phone: Access to dial pad, history, contacts, and call management.
- Media: For USB playback and browsing media files.
- Apple CarPlay: Interface for compatible iPhones.
- Android Auto: Interface for compatible Android devices.
- Camera: Displays front or rear camera feeds.
- Settings: Access to system configurations, audio, display, and connectivity options.
The main interface allows switching between these modes by touching their respective icons. Navigation within modes often involves touch, swipe, or touch-and-hold gestures.

Using Apple CarPlay
Connecting to USB Port
- Connect the CarPlay compatible device via a Lightning® cable (not included).
- The iPhone will load the CarPlay function.
- On the display, the CarPlay interface will illuminate green; touch it to enter the CarPlay menu.
- To return to the product home menu, touch the BOSS Audio Systems logo.
Wireless Connection
When connected to Bluetooth, CarPlay will be prompted to load. The iPhone will load the CarPlay function. On the display, the CarPlay interface will illuminate green; touch it to enter the CarPlay menu.
When using CarPlay, pairing your iPhone via Bluetooth is not necessary; the USB cable connection enables this feature. If other devices are connected via Bluetooth, they will be disconnected for the duration of CarPlay use.
Gestures & Control
Basic controls include:
- Touch: ? Tap to select or activate.
- Swipe: ↔️ Slide finger across the screen for scrolling or changing views.
- Dragging: ?? Press and hold an item, then move it to a new position.
Other gestures and controls might differ on each App.
CarPlay Display Setup
- Using your iPhone: Settings > General > CarPlay.
- Touch and hold each App icon to move it.
- To remove an App, touch the '-' icon next to it.

How to Disable Apps
Using your iPhone: Navigate to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps, then toggle off specific apps like CarPlay.

Using Android Auto
Android Auto App
- Using your Android device, download the Android Auto app on Google Play.
Minimum Requirements: Android 8.0 Lollipop. For a list of compatible devices, visit https://www.android.com/auto/.
Updating Related Apps
During the first startup and setup of the Android Auto app, Maps, Music, and Google apps will install/update automatically.
Connecting to USB Port
- Connect the Android compatible device via the appropriate USB cable (not included).
- The Android device will load the Android Auto function.
- Bluetooth will connect automatically when setup is completed.
- To return to the product home menu, touch the BOSS Audio Systems logo.
Wireless Connection
When connected to Bluetooth, CarPlay may be prompted to load (this section seems to have a typo and should refer to Android Auto). The Android device will load the Android Auto function. Bluetooth will connect automatically when setup is completed. To return to the product home menu, touch the BOSS Audio Systems logo.
Android Auto Permissions
Several features can be allowed or denied access to customize usability. Access can always be modified in Settings on the Android device.
- Grant Permissions: Allows Android Auto to send location and calendar data to Google for local info (weather, reminders) and voice commands, phone calls, messages.
- Allow Android Auto to read and write phone call log? (Read call logs)
- Allow Android Auto to access this device's location? (Allows Maps to determine device location)
- Allow Android Auto to send and view SMS messages? (Send SMS messages, use all other permissions)
- Allow Android Auto to record audio?
- Allow Android Auto to access your calendar?
- Allow Android Auto to access your contacts? (Read contacts)
Permission needed: Google Maps in Android Auto requires location permission to work effectively. Review this permission in Settings.

Setup & Connection
Phone Menu
To initiate Bluetooth setup:
- Navigate to the Hands-free menu (pg. 19).
- Touch 'Search' to begin searching for devices.
First Time Pairing
Mobile Device: Search for "BOSS AUDIO BVCP9850W_XXXX".
- iOS Devices: Settings > Bluetooth.
- Android Devices: Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
Every time the product is powered ON, the mobile device will automatically connect if within range.
Contacts and History
To Download Phone book:
- Touch Contact > Download.
Contacts are stored once downloaded.
To Download History:
The phone book will be automatically synchronized after downloading.
Device Status
Battery strength and signal strength are displayed on the top right of the home menu.
PHONE - Calling
Making & Receiving Calls
- Dialing from the dial pad.
- History: Touch to make a call.
- Contacts: Touch the contact name.
- History: Choose the history call record.
- To end a call, touch ?.

- Dial pad: To use the dial pad while on a call, touch ?.

To play media through Bluetooth, the mobile device must be Paired and Connected to the BVCP9850W_XXXX. See page 20.

When the vehicle is put into reverse gear, the camera will display the image on the screen.
Rear View Delay
Due to varying vehicle configurations, the rear view trigger or front view trigger can be delayed to best suit the vehicle. See Settings page 27. Default setting: 0 Sec Delay.

System Tone

Loud
Enhances and gently boosts low and high frequencies. Touch ?. Default Setting: OFF.
Subwoofer
The level and filter can be adjusted for the Sub pre-amp output. Level: -8 - +8 dB. Default Setting: 0dB. Touch ? for filter settings (80 Hz, 120 Hz, 160 Hz @ 12dB/Oct).
Volume
Settings are for default volumes for Hands-free. Media Player is a global setting for media.
Source Level
The level can be adjusted for different source outputs. Touch ?.
Audio Effect
Preset EQ options include: User, Pop, Blues, Classical, Jazz, Electronic, Rock, Country.
Balance/Fader
Left/Right Balance: Touch ↔️. Swipe for quick adjustment.
Front/Rear Fader: Touch Swipe ↔️. Swipe for quick adjustment.
General
Date & Time
Time Zone: Adjust to correctly display time. Default Setting: (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US).

Day Brightness

Night Brightness

Gamma
Adjustable for both day and night settings. Touch ⏩️ ⏪️.
LED Animation
Will cycle through all colors on LED touch buttons. Default Setting: ON. Touch ? to toggle ON/OFF.
LED Color
Adjust button lights in different colors. Touch ?.
Illumination Default
To restore illumination settings to default, touch ?. This will restore all display settings.

Bluetooth Setting

Seek Quality FM/AM

RBDS, Radio Broadcast Data System

RBDS
RBDS stations will broadcast information to display.
AF (Alternative Frequency)
When ON, the tuner automatically locates the same tuning program on other stations and selects the strongest signal. Default Setting: OFF. Touch ? to toggle ON/OFF.
TA (Traffic Announcement)
The radio automatically tunes into traffic information broadcasts while receiving FM broadcasts. Default Setting: OFF. Touch ? to toggle ON/OFF.
