Introduction to the Delta rPDU
The Delta InfraSuite Power Management rPDU, specifically the ViLink Series Metered Type, is designed to efficiently distribute power to equipment within racks and enclosures. It is ideal for data centers, IT, and telecom installations.
This user manual provides comprehensive guidance on the safe and effective use of the rPDU. It covers essential safety precautions for installation, operation, and maintenance, ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of the unit.
Key Features and Functions
- Vertical Installation: The rPDU installs vertically in the rear of a rack without requiring additional unit space, facilitating toolless mounting.
- Remote Monitoring: Users can monitor the rPDU's status remotely via an Ethernet network, including input voltage, branch current, power information, and environmental conditions.
- Connectivity: Supports Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps) and both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols for robust network management.
- Circuit Protection: Features UL489 certified magnetic-hydraulic circuit breakers for each branch circuit, with optional UL248 certified fuses for enhanced protection.
- Color Grouping: Output sockets are color-coded (red, blue, green) to easily differentiate phase-breaker-socket groups.
- Daisy Chain Capability: Allows up to 40 rPDUs to be monitored and controlled under a single IP address, simplifying network management.
- Local Display: Provides real-time local information, including input current on an auto-flip LED display for easy installation and maintenance.
- Metering: Offers comprehensive input metering functions to measure voltage (V), current (A), power (W), energy (Wh), apparent power (VA), power factor (PF), THDv (%), and THDi (%).
- Secure Protocols: Supports secured network protocols such as HTTP/HTTP(S), SSH/SSL, SNMP, and LDAP(S) for secure rPDU management.
- Tool-Free Maintenance: An inbuilt hot-swappable and tool-free remote monitoring controller (RMC) allows for easy removal, installation, and maintenance.
Safety and Installation
Important Safety Instructions: Adherence to safety precautions is crucial to reduce the risk of electric shock and ensure proper operation. This includes:
- Using the rPDU only in controlled indoor environments, away from moisture, extreme temperatures, and contaminants.
- Ensuring proper grounding of the rPDU.
- Not using the rPDU in the presence of flammable substances.
- Respecting the load rating of individual output sockets and the total rPDU load rating.
- Avoiding drilling or opening the rPDU housing, as there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
- Never modifying the rPDU or its power cables.
- Not using a damaged rPDU.
- Mounting the rPDU securely.
- Avoiding installation during thunderstorms.
- The rPDU is suitable for Information Technology Rooms and not for locations where children are likely to be present.
Rack Mounting Precautions: Special consideration should be given to ambient temperature and airflow within the rack to ensure safe operation. Mechanical loading and circuit overloading must also be managed appropriately, with reliable earthing maintained.
Connecting to a Power Source: Connection to a power source must be performed by a certified electrician. A circuit breaker must be installed for over-current protection, and the type of circuit breaker should be determined based on the input voltage. The power supply cord's plug serves as the disconnect device and should be easily accessible.
Maintenance with Input Power: Delta recommends avoiding maintenance while the rPDU is receiving input power. If critical maintenance is necessary, it must be performed by a certified electrician trained in live electrical installation, working with another qualified person, and following strict safety regulations.
Electromagnetic Interference: This is a Class A product, which may cause radio interference in domestic environments. Users may need to take adequate measures to mitigate this.
