Overview of the BRAVE 4 PRO
The AKASO Brave 4 Pro camera features the following components:
- 1. OK/Shutter/Power Button: Used for power and capturing photos/videos.
- 2. Front Screen: Displays camera status and information.
- 3. Micro USB Port: For charging and data transfer.
- 4. Memory Card Slot: For inserting a microSD card.
- 5. Micro HDMI Port: For connecting to external displays.
- 6. Lens: Captures images and videos.
- 7. Touchscreen: For navigating menus and settings.
- 8. Mode/Up Button: Switches between modes or navigates up in menus.
- 9. Speaker: Outputs audio.
- 10. Down Button: Navigates down in menus or activates Wi-Fi.
- 11. Battery Cover: Provides access to the battery compartment.
Note: When the waterproof case is attached, the camera cannot record sound.
Getting Started
Memory Card
Use a branded memory card that meets the following requirements:
- U3 speed class
- Maximum capacity of 128GB (FAT32 format)
Caution:
- Format the memory card in the camera before first use and periodically to maintain optimal performance. Formatting erases all data, so back up photos and videos first.
- Memory cards formatted as FAT32 will stop recording if a single file exceeds 4GB, and will start a new file.
Quick Button Guide
- Power Button: Long press to turn the camera on/off. Short press to confirm selections.
- Up Button: Long press to switch between front and rear screens. Short press to enter playback mode.
- Down Button: Long press to turn on Wi-Fi. Short press to access settings.
Power On/Off
To Turn On: Press and hold the Power Button for 3 seconds. The camera will beep, and the status indicator light will turn on.
To Turn Off: Press and hold the Power Button for 3 seconds. The camera will beep, and the status indicator light will turn off.
Modes
Mode Switching
After powering on the camera, swipe left or right on the screen, or tap the 'Video' icon to switch between modes.
Ending Modes
Press the Mode Button or tap the 'X' icon to exit the current mode.
Wi-Fi On/Off
To Turn On Wi-Fi: Long press the Down Button after powering on the camera. You can also swipe to the mode menu and select Wi-Fi.
To Turn Off Wi-Fi: Press the OK button.
Mode List
The camera offers six modes: Video, Photo, Burst Photo, Time-lapse Video, Timer Photo, and Wi-Fi.
While the camera is on, tap the current mode displayed at the bottom of the screen or swipe up to access the mode menu.
Camera Modes in Detail
Video Mode
The camera defaults to Video Mode upon powering on. Press the Shutter Button to start recording video and press it again to stop. You can adjust zoom levels by pinching the screen.
Photo Mode
After powering on, swipe right to switch to Photo Mode. Press the Shutter Button to capture a photo. You can adjust zoom levels by pinching the screen.
Burst Photo Mode
Swipe up to the 'Mode Selection' or tap 'Video', then select Burst Photo Mode. In this mode, pressing the Shutter Button captures 3, 5, or 10 photos per second.
Time-lapse Video Mode
Swipe up to the 'Mode Selection' or tap 'Video', then select Time-lapse Video Mode. Pressing the Shutter Button captures frames at intervals of 0.5s, 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 30s, or 60s to create a video.
Timer Photo Mode
Swipe up to the 'Mode Selection' or tap 'Video', then select Timer Photo Mode. Pressing the Shutter Button initiates a countdown timer for capturing photos at intervals of 3s, 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, or 60s.
Wi-Fi Mode
While the camera is on, long press the Down Button or access the mode menu to turn Wi-Fi on.
Video and Photo Settings
Configure various settings for video and photo capture:
- Video Resolution: Options include 4K30FPS, 2.7K30FPS, 1080P120FPS, 1080P60FPS, 1080P30FPS, 720P240FPS, 720P120FPS, 720P60FPS, 720P30FPS. Default is 4K30FPS. Caution: High resolutions or frame rates in warm environments may cause the camera to overheat and consume more power.
- Video Mode: Select Video, Slow Motion, or Loop Record. Default is Video.
- Image Stabilization: On/Off. Default is Off. Helps reduce shakiness during recording, especially for fast-moving activities. This feature cannot be used when 'Angle' is set to anything other than 'Wide'.
- Angle: Options are Ultra Wide, Wide, Medium, Narrow. Default is Ultra Wide. This setting determines the field of view.
- Underwater Mode: On/Off. Default is Off. Compensates for the lack of red light underwater, optimized for tropical and ocean environments (10-80 feet).
- Video Length: Options are 2 min, 3 min, 5 min. Default is 2 min. Loop recording allows continuous recording, saving only desired segments.
- Exposure: Adjusts exposure compensation from -3 to +3. Default is 0. Allows selection of areas the camera prioritizes for exposure.
- WDR (Wide Dynamic Range): On/Off. Default is Off. Enhances detail in both bright and dark areas of an image. Available only in video mode.
- Metering: Options are Average, Center-weighted, Spot. Default is Average. Determines how the camera measures light.
- Sharpness: High, Medium, Low. Default is High. Controls the detail quality of videos and photos.
- Video Quality: High, Medium, Low. Default is Medium.
- ISO: Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400. Default is Auto. Controls camera sensitivity to light and image noise. Higher ISO increases brightness but also noise; lower ISO reduces noise but results in darker images.
- Date Stamp: On/Off. Default is On. Adds date and time to videos and photos.
- Motion Detection: On/Off. Default is Off. Detects movement and automatically starts recording video.
- Photo Resolution: Options are 20MP, 16MP, 13MP, 8MP. Default is 20MP.
- Image Stabilization: On/Off. Default is Off. (Same as setting 3).
- Burst Shooting: 3 shots/s, 5 shots/s, 10 shots/s. Default is 3 shots/s. Ideal for capturing fast action.
- Time-lapse Interval: 0.5s, 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 30s, 60s. Default is 0.5s. Creates videos from captured frames. Note: Time-lapse videos are recorded without audio.
- Photo Interval: 3s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 60s. Default is 3s. Captures photos at set intervals until manually stopped.
- Self-timer: On/Off. Default is On. Takes photos after a countdown.
Camera Settings
Configure general camera settings:
- Special Effects: Normal, Black & White, Sepia, Retro, Red, Green, Blue. Default is Normal.
- Power Frequency: Auto, 50Hz, 60Hz. Default is Auto.
- Language: English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Italiano, 日本語, 한국어, 简体中文. Default is English.
- Date/Time: YY/MM/DD. The date and time sync with your smartphone when connected to the AKASO GO app. Caution: Removing the battery may reset the date and time.
- Sound: Shutter Sound (On/Off), Beep Sound (On/Off), Startup Sound (On/Off). Volume can be set to 0, 30, 70, or 100. Default is On for shutter sound.
- Car Mode: On/Off. Default is Off.
- Rotation Mode: On/Off. Default is Off. Rotates video or photo orientation to prevent upside-down footage. Enabling this mode inverts the user interface.
- Microphone: Internal, External. Default is Internal.
- Screen Saver: Off, 30s, 1 min, 2 min. Default is 1 min. Turns off the display after a period of inactivity to save battery. Press any button to turn it back on.
- Auto Power Off: None, 3 min, 5 min, 10 min. Default is 3 min. Turns off the camera after a period of inactivity to save battery.
- Format: Format the memory card to maintain good condition. This erases all data, so back up files first. To format, press the Down button, navigate to Settings, find and tap 'Format'.
- Reset: Reset all settings to default (Confirm/Cancel).
- Device Information: Displays the camera's version (e.g., FX9307I-V1.0 4-20-2021), model, and update time.
Connecting to the AKASO GO App
Download the AKASO GO app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to your mobile device. The app allows remote control, live preview, playback, downloading, and sharing of content.
- Turn on the camera and long press the Down Button to turn on Wi-Fi. Alternatively, swipe to the mode menu to turn on Wi-Fi.
- On your smartphone, turn on Wi-Fi, find the camera's Wi-Fi network in the list, and connect using the password: 1234567890.
- Open the AKASO GO app, tap 'Device' → 'Add Device', and select 'Brave 4 Pro'.
- Check the box confirming the previous steps and click 'Live Preview' to connect the camera to the app.
Content Playback
You can play back content on your camera, computer, TV, smartphone, or tablet. You can also insert the memory card directly into compatible devices.
Viewing Videos and Photos
- Turn on the camera.
- Tap the video playback icon ▶️ in the bottom left corner to enter playback mode.
- Tap the file icon ?.
- Use the forward/backward icons to navigate through video or photo files.
- Tap the video playback icon ▶️ again to play the video in full screen.
- Tap the back icon ◀️ to exit playback.
Note: Loading content may take time if many files are saved on the memory card.
Deleting Videos and Photos
- Enter playback mode.
- Tap the video playback icon ▶️ or the file icon ?.
- Use the forward/backward icons to find the video or photo file you wish to delete.
- Tap the delete icon ?️. A prompt will appear asking, 'Delete this file? Yes/No'.
- Tap 'Yes' to delete the selected file.
Data Transfer
Transferring Data to a Computer
To play videos and photos on your computer, transfer them first. This also frees up space on your memory card. Use a card reader (sold separately) and your computer's file explorer. Connect the card reader, insert the memory card, and then transfer or delete files.
Transferring Data to a Smartphone or Tablet
- Open the AKASO GO app and connect your camera.
- Tap the playback icon ▶️ at the bottom left to view all videos and photos.
- Tap the download icon ⬇️ after selecting the photos or videos you wish to download.
Note:
- If you cannot transfer videos or photos to an iPhone, go to Settings → Privacy → Photos, find 'AKASO GO', and select 'All Photos'.
- For iPhones, 4K or 2.7K videos cannot be downloaded via the app. Use a card reader to transfer these files.
Camera Care
Follow these instructions for optimal camera performance:
- To improve audio quality, gently tap or blow into the microphone opening to clear any debris.
- Clean the lens with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the lens directly or getting debris around it.
- Do not touch the lens with your fingers.
- Protect the camera from drops and impacts, as internal components may be damaged.
- Store the camera away from high temperatures and direct sunlight to prevent damage.
Maximizing Battery Life
The camera saves files and turns off when the battery reaches 0%. To maximize battery lifespan, follow these tips:
- Turn off wireless connections (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) when not in use.
- Shoot videos at lower frame rates and resolutions.
- Utilize the screen saver feature.
Zoom Level Adjustment
Use the zoom function to adjust the distance of your subject in photos. The default setting is zoom off. The zoom feature is available in Video, Burst Photo, and Timer Photo modes. The Brave 4 Pro offers up to 5x zoom.
- Turn on the Brave 4 Pro.
- Enter Video, Burst Photo, or Timer Photo mode.
- Pinch the screen to adjust the zoom level.
Reformatting Memory Card
Periodically reformat your memory card to keep it in good condition. This process erases all data, so back up your photos and videos first.
- Press and hold the Power Button for 3 seconds to turn on the Brave 4 Pro.
- Press the Down button or tap the settings icon to access the camera's settings.
- Press the Mode button, then the Down button, and find the 'Format' option.
- Press the Shutter Button. The screen will display the memory card's storage capacity and options like 'Format' or 'Cancel'.
- Press the OK button or tap 'Format' to begin the formatting process. The screen will show 'Formatting...' and then 'Format Successful'.
Battery Storage and Use
Handle the battery with care, as it contains sensitive components. Avoid exposing the camera or battery to extreme cold or heat, as this can temporarily reduce battery life or affect camera performance. Avoid rapid changes in temperature or humidity, which can cause condensation inside the camera.
- Do not dry the camera or battery using microwaves or hair dryers. Damage caused by liquid contact or internal component issues is not covered by warranty.
- Do not store the battery with metal objects like coins, keys, or necklaces, as this can create a short circuit and pose a fire hazard.
- Never modify the camera. Doing so can compromise safety, regulatory compliance, and functionality, and will void the warranty.
Warnings
Do not drop, disassemble, crush, bend, puncture, incinerate, or paint the camera or battery. Do not insert foreign objects into the battery compartment. If the camera or battery is damaged (e.g., cracked, punctured, water-damaged), do not use it. Puncturing or disassembling the battery may lead to explosion or fire.
Remote Control
The remote control allows you to operate the camera wirelessly. It features a Shutter Button (red) and a Video Button (grey). The remote is splash-proof but not waterproof.
- Recording Video: Switch the camera to Video Mode. Press the grey Video Button; the camera will beep once, and the indicator light will flash during recording.
- Stopping Recording: Press the grey Video Button again; the camera will beep once, and the indicator light will stop flashing, indicating recording has stopped.
- Taking Photos: Switch the camera to Photo Mode. Press the red Shutter Button; the camera will emit a shutter sound once.
Replacing the Remote Control Battery (CR2032)
- Use a 1.8mm Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws on the back cover of the remote control.
- Remove the four screws securing the PCB board.
- Lift the PCB board and carefully remove the old battery. Caution: Do not rotate the PCB board to avoid reversing the functions of the camera and video buttons.
- Insert the new battery with the '+' terminal facing upwards.
- Reattach the PCB board using the four screws.
- Replace the back cover and secure it with the remaining four screws.
Attaching the Camera
