Warranty Information

Minka Aire® Warranty:

• One (1) year limited warranty from the date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship (light bulbs excluded).
• Lifetime warranty on the motor for the original purchaser or user (excluding wall controls and electrical components).

Warranty Void Conditions:

• Use of non-Minka Aire® electrical devices (e.g., wall controls, dimmer switches).
• Fan ownership ceases or fan is moved from its original installation point.
• Use of non-Minka Aire or non-fan specific hanger brackets.

Warranty Service: Return the fan with the sales receipt to the original place of purchase. Authorized dealers will repair or replace at their discretion. For dealer locations, contact Minka Aire® customer care at 1-800-307-3267 or visit www.minkagroup.net.

Safety Rules

1. Shut off power at the circuit breaker before installation.
2. Read all instructions and safety information.
3. Ensure electrical connections comply with local codes; consult a qualified electrician if needed.
4. Choose an installation site allowing 10 feet clearance from floor and 18 inches from blade tops to walls.
5. Mount to a U.L. Listed metal octagonal outlet box marked 'Acceptable For Fan Support', secured directly to the building structure. The box and support must hold at least 50 pounds. Do not use a plastic box.
6. Use only provided screws and lock washers for mounting.
7. If mounting to a joist, ensure it supports at least 50 pounds.
8. Verify all mounting components are secure after installation.
9. Do not insert objects into fan blades during operation.
10. Turn fan off and wait for blades to stop before maintenance or cleaning.

Important Notes:

• The fan is equipped with a 190-watt limiting device; lamping exceeding this will automatically shut off the light kit.
• Common sense, caution, and care are essential for safe installation and operation.
• WARNING: Mount only to a U.L. Listed outlet box or supporting system marked 'Acceptable For Fan Support'. Use provided mounting screws and lock washers. Replace outlet boxes not commonly used for lighting fixture support. Consult an electrician if unsure.
• WARNING: Do not bend blade holders, insert foreign objects into rotating blades, or clean the fan while it is operating.
• WARNING: This fan only supports the CR-400T remote control.

Installing the Fan

Tools Required: Philips screwdriver, slotted screwdriver, step-ladder, wire cutters, electrical tape.

Mounting Options:

• If no existing mounting box, disconnect power. Secure outlet box directly to building structure using appropriate fasteners. Ensure box and support can hold at least 50 lbs. Use a U.L. listed metal outlet box.
• Figures 1, 2, and 3 illustrate different mounting methods for outlet boxes, including direct mounting to joists or using a cross brace.
• For steep or sloped ceilings, a longer downrod may be needed for proper blade clearance (available from Minka Aire® dealer).
• For installation without a ceiling joist, a hanger bar may be required (available from Minka Aire® dealer). Figure 4 shows hanger bar installation.

Hanging the Fan

WARNING: Use only Minka Aire® supplied parts to avoid voiding the warranty.

1. Turn off power.
2. Secure Hanger Bracket to the ceiling outlet box using provided screws and lock-washers (Fig. 5).
3. Loosen set screws, remove hitch pin and lock pin from the top coupling of the motor assembly (Fig. 6).
4. Remove hanger ball from downrod assembly by loosening set screw, removing cross pin, and sliding ball off rod (Fig. 7).
5. Feed fan wires up through the downrod. Thread rod into coupling, align holes, and replace lock pin and hitch pin. Tighten set screws (Fig. 8, 9).
6. Slip coupling cover, canopy cover, and canopy onto downrod (Fig. 9). Reinstall hanger ball, ensuring cross pin and set screws are tight.
7. Place downrod rubber cover onto hanger ball (Fig. 9).
8. Lift motor assembly and place hanger ball into hanger bracket. Rotate until the check groove drops into the registration slot and seats firmly (Fig. 10). The rod should not rotate if correctly seated.

Electrical Connections

WARNING: Ensure power is off at the main fuse or breaker box before wiring.

The Aire Control® System for DC motor fans features a learning frequency function with 32 code combinations to prevent interference. Frequencies are preset at the factory.

Wiring Steps:

• Connect the WHITE wire (Neutral) from the outlet box to the WHITE wire ('AC in N') from the motor. Connect the BLACK wire (Hot) from the outlet box to the BLACK wire ('AC in L') from the motor. Secure connections with provided wire nuts (Fig. 12).
• If your outlet box has a GROUND wire (Green or Bare Copper), connect it to the Hanger Ball and Hanger Bracket ground wires. If no house ground wire exists, connect the Hanger Ball and Hanger Bracket ground wires together. Secure with wire nut (Fig. 12).
• Ensure no loose strands and consider securing wire connectors with electrical tape.

Figure 11 shows the receiver/transmitter unit with frequency settings. Figure 12 illustrates the wiring connections.

Finishing the Installation

1. Remove one screw from the bottom of the hanger bracket and loosen the other half a turn.
2. Slide canopy up towards the hanger bracket. Place the keyhole on the canopy over the loosened screw and turn canopy until it locks into the narrow section of the key holes (Fig. 13).
3. Align the canopy's circular hole with the remaining hole on the hanger bracket. Secure by tightening the two set screws. Adjust canopy screws for a snug fit.

Attaching the Fan Blade

Before installing the light kit, attach fan blades.

1. Insert one fan blade into the slot on the motor housing and secure with screws and washers. Tighten securely.
2. Repeat for all blades (Fig. 14).
3. Note the "THIS SIDE UP" label on the blades; they are not reversible.

Installing the Light Plate and Glass Shade

ATTENTION: The fan is equipped with a 75-watt limiting device. Lamping exceeding 75 watts will automatically shut off the light kit.

1. Loosely attach one screw to the motor assembly. Align the light kit housing's keyhole with this screw to hang the housing under the motor assembly.
2. Place and tighten the remaining screws to firmly attach the light kit housing to the motor assembly (Fig. 15-1, 15-2).
3. Raise the glass shade up against the bottom of the fan housing and secure it by turning clockwise until snug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN (Fig. 15-3).

Operating the Remote Control/Wall Control

Remote Control: Install an A23 12-volt battery. Remove battery if not used for extended periods.

Remote Functions:

• Speed Buttons (1-6): Set fan speed (1=minimum, 6=high).
• B. Reverse Button: Changes blade rotation direction (forward for warm weather cooling, reverse for cool weather heating).
• C. ON/OFF Button: Turns the fan power off.
• D. Light Buttons: Turn the light ON/OFF and control brightness. Press and hold to cycle brightness; the light has an auto-resume feature.

Auto Learning Function: Mandates within 60 seconds of turning fan power ON. Select frequency on transmitter, press and hold "Off" for over 10 seconds. The down light will blink twice if applicable. This function retains the last set frequency.

Safety Features:

• Obstruction Detection: If the fan motor senses an obstruction for 60 seconds or more, it will lock and require power disconnection for 5 seconds to reset.
• Over 60W Protection: If receiver detects motor power consumption over 60W, operation stops. Remove obstacles and disconnect power for 5 seconds to restart.

Dip Switch Settings (Fig. 16):

• "DIMMER" selection: For dimmable bulbs (except CFLs).
• "ON/OFF" selection: For CFL bulbs.

Fan Direction (Warm/Cool Weather)

Fan speed settings depend on room size, ceiling height, and fan count.

Warm Weather (Forward): A downward airflow creates a cooling effect (Fig. 17). Allows setting air conditioner on a warmer setting.

Cool Weather (Reverse): An upward airflow moves warmer air off the ceiling (Fig. 18). Allows setting heating unit on a cooler setting.

Care of Your Fan

1. Periodically check support connections, brackets, and blade attachments for looseness (twice a year).
2. Clean the fan periodically with a soft lint-free cloth and soapy water. Avoid household cleaners that may damage the finish.
3. For wood veneer blades, apply a light coat of furniture polish. Cover small scratches with shoe polish.
4. Dust blades with a lint-free, lightly damp cloth.
5. The motor has permanently lubricated bearings; no oiling is needed.
6. Clean glass shades with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth/sponge. DO NOT IMMERSE GLASS SHADES IN HOT WATER OR PUT THEM IN AN AUTOMATIC DISHWASHER.

WARNING: Ensure power is OFF at the electrical panel box before attempting any repairs. Refer to the Electrical Connections section.

Troubleshooting

Symptom: Fan will not start

• Check wall switch is ON.
• Check circuit fuses or breakers.
• Ensure power is OFF before checking wire connections in the canopy.
• Check wall control transmitter connections (if applicable).
• Note: Fan must be installed within 40 feet of the transmitting unit for proper signal transmission.

Symptom: Fan Sounds Noisy

• Allow a 24-hour break-in period for new fans.
• Ensure screws attaching fan blade holder to motor hub are tight.
• Verify outlet box is securely fastened to the building structure, using provided wood screws if necessary.
• Ensure hanger bracket is secure to the outlet box with tight screws.

Symptom: Fan Wobble

• Blade sets are grouped by weight; density variations in wood/plastic blades can cause wobble.
• Ensure outlet box is secured to the building structure.
• Ensure hanger bracket is secure to the outlet box with tight screws.
• Use the provided balancing kit following its instructions to correct excessive wobble.

Symptom: Frequency Interference

1. Turn power OFF to the fan.
2. Use a small tool to change frequency settings on the control system.
3. Return power ON.
4. Note: After power is ON, press the transmitter's "Stop" button and hold for 10 seconds BEFORE pressing any other button.
5. If the receiver detects the frequency, the down light will blink twice (if equipped).
6. The receiver learns the selected frequency. The fan and light should now operate correctly. If not, turn power OFF, wait 5 seconds, and repeat the process.

Specifications

These are typical readings; actual fan may vary. Amps and wattage for lights are not included.

Airflow and Power Use:

*Airflow measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Power use measured in watts. Measured according to the DOE approved Solid State test method.

To maximize energy savings:

• Choose a fan with high airflow efficiency (CFM/watt).
• Use DOE-labeled lighting in your fan.
• Remember to switch off your fan when you leave the room.
