Connecting to a USB Type-C Compatible Smartphone

Connect the headphones to the USB Type-C port on your smartphone as shown in the illustration. The illustration shows the headphones being plugged into a USB Type-C port on a smartphone.

Earbud Tip Sizing:

The size of the earbud tips is indicated by the number of dashed lines on the inner surface of the tips.

  • XS size: 1 line
  • M size: 3 lines
  • XL size: 5 lines

Note on Earbud Tips: Earbud tips are consumable parts. If your earbud tips are damaged and need replacement, contact your nearest Sony retailer or purchase the following earbud tips (sold separately).

Replacing Earbud Tips

The headphones come with size M hybrid silicone earbud tips attached to the left and right units. Ensure the earbud tip size fits your ears and wear the headphones correctly for optimal sound quality.

Tips for Optimal Sound Quality:

  • When replacing earbud tips, try sizes from larger to smaller. The most suitable earbud tip size may differ between your left and right ears.
  • Check that you are wearing the headphones correctly. Insert the headphones so that the earbud tip is comfortably seated deep within the ear canal.

1. Removing an Earbud Tip: Hold the headphone unit and twist the earbud tip while rotating it to remove it. Do not squeeze the tip of the earbud when removing it.

2. Attaching an Earbud Tip: Firmly press the earbud tip onto the sound outlet tube of the headphone. Ensure the earbud tip covers the outer end of the sound outlet tube. Do not attach the earbud tip incorrectly or crookedly. If the earbud tip is not fully attached, it may come off the headphone, or sound quality and wearability may be reduced.

Location and Function of Parts

The headphones have the following parts:

  1. Earbud tips (left, right)
  2. Left unit
  3. Tactile dot (on the left unit)
  4. Remote control component
  5. Slider (adjusts the length of the left and right headphone cables)

Connecting to a USB Type-C Compatible Smartphone

1. Connect the headphones to the USB Type-C port of your smartphone. The illustration shows the headphones being plugged into a USB Type-C port on a smartphone.

Notes:

  • Do not apply excessive force when connecting the cable to the connector.
  • When connecting or disconnecting the cable, do not use excessive force, such as pulling the cable. Connect or disconnect the plug straight into the port.
  • If the cable connector is deformed, for example, due to bending of the cable connector, stop using it immediately.
  • Depending on the USB Type-C compatible smartphone, you may need to configure certain settings to connect to the headphones.
  • The name displayed on the connected smartphone varies depending on the smartphone. It may appear as “Detect USB device” or “Enable USB connection On-The-Go”. Refer to your USB Type-C compatible smartphone’s operating instructions for details.
  • When connecting the headphones to a device other than a smartphone, the volume may increase. Please note the following:
    • Do not connect the headphones while an application or content is playing.
    • Do not connect the headphones while inserting them into your ears.

Wearing the Headphones

1. Check the left and right shapes of the headphones. The left unit has a tactile dot (A).

2. Insert the headphone units into your ears. Insert the left unit into your left ear and the right unit into your right ear.

3. Adjust the headphone units to fit your ears. Twist the headphone unit to seat the earbud tip deep within the ear canal.

For Optimal Sound Quality:

Earbud tip size must match your ears, and you must wear the headphones correctly. Try the following to achieve optimal sound quality:

  • Replace the earbud tips with ones that fit snugly in your ears. When replacing earbud tips, try sizes from larger to smaller. The most suitable earbud tip size may differ between your left and right ears.
  • In step 3, check that you are wearing the headphones correctly. Wear the headphones so that the earbud tip fits best.

Operating the Audio Device

You can perform the following operations using the multi-function button (A):

  • Play music: Press the multi-function button once briefly while paused.
  • Pause: Press the multi-function button once briefly while playing music.
  • Skip to the next track: Press the multi-function button twice briefly.
  • Skip to the beginning of the previous or current track during playback: Press the multi-function button three times briefly.
  • Activate voice assistant: Press and hold the multi-function button for approximately 2 seconds while music is playing or paused.

You can perform the following operations using the volume buttons (B):

  • To increase volume: Press the + side of the volume button.
  • To decrease volume: Press the – side of the volume button.

Note: Functionality may not work correctly depending on the connected device, operating system, or software. In such cases, operate the connected device.

Receiving a Call

When you receive an incoming call, you will hear a ringing sound from the headphones.

1. When you hear the ringing, press the multi-function button (A) to answer the call. If you receive an incoming call while music is playing, playback will stop, and you will hear the ringing sound from the headphones. You can talk using the microphone (B) on the headphones.

If you cannot hear the ringing in the headphones: Check if the headphones are properly connected to your smartphone.

2. Press the volume button (C) to adjust the volume.

3. When you finish the phone call, press the multi-function button on the headphones to end the call. If you receive a phone call while music is playing, playback will resume after the call ends.

Tip: Call volume can only be adjusted during a phone conversation. Headphone volume during calls and music playback can be set independently. If you change the volume during a call, the music playback volume will not change.

Note: Depending on the connected device, operating system, or application software you are using, the following may occur:

  • The function may not work correctly when using the headphones. In such cases, operate the connected device.
  • When you receive an incoming call while music is playing, playback does not stop.
  • When you receive an incoming call while music is playing, playback does not automatically resume after you end the call.
  • If the person you are calling is concerned about background noise, move the headphone microphone closer to your mouth. Do not cover the microphone holes with your fingers.

Call Functions

You can perform the following operations using the multi-function button (A):

  • During an incoming call: To answer a call, press the multi-function button once. To reject a call, press and hold the multi-function button for approximately 2 seconds.
  • During a call: To end a call, press the multi-function button once. To turn the microphone on/off, press and hold the multi-function button for approximately 2 seconds. The microphone may turn off when you press and hold the multi-function button. The operation for turning the microphone on/off varies depending on the model (Android smartphone). You can only turn off the microphone on an iPhone by pressing and holding the multi-function button.

Note: Functionality may not work correctly depending on the connected device, operating system, or software. In such cases, operate the connected device.

Using Voice Assistant Function (Google™ app)

By using the Google app that comes with your Android smartphone, you can speak into the headphone microphone to operate your Android smartphone.

1. Set Google app as the assistant and voice input. On your Android smartphone, select the following menus: [Settings] > [Apps & notifications] > [Advanced] > [Default apps] > [Assist & voice input]. Then, set [Assist app] to Google app. The above operating procedure is an example. For more details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your Android smartphone. The latest version of the Google app may be required. For models in countries and regions excluding mainland China: For details about the Google app, refer to the operating instructions or support website for your Android smartphone or the Google Play store website. For mainland China models: For details about the Google app, refer to the operating instructions or support website for your Android smartphone. Activating the Google app from the headphones may not be possible, depending on your Android smartphone's specifications.

2. When your smartphone is on standby or playing music, press and hold the multi-function button (A) on the headphones for approximately 2 seconds. Google app is activated.

3. Make your request to the Google app via the headphone microphone (B). For details about applications that work with the Google app, refer to your Android smartphone's operating instructions. After activating the Google app, the voice command will be canceled if you do not provide any instructions within a certain period.

Note: “Hey Google” cannot be activated even if Google app is enabled on your Android smartphone when you say “Hey Google”. The Google app may not activate depending on your smartphone’s specifications or app version. The Google app does not work when connected to a device that is not compatible with the voice assistant function.

Using Voice Assistant Function (Siri)

With Siri, which is included with your iPhone, you can speak into the headphone microphone to operate your iPhone.

1. Activate Siri. On your iPhone, select [Settings] > [Siri & Search]. Enable [Press Home for Siri] and [Allow Siri When Locked]. The above procedure is an example. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with your iPhone. You can find details about Siri in the operating instructions or on the iPhone support website.

2. When your iPhone is on standby or playing music, press and hold the multi-function button (A) on the headphones for approximately 2 seconds. Siri is activated.

3. Make your request to Siri via the headphone microphone (B). For details about applications that work with Siri, refer to your iPhone's operating instructions. When Siri is activated, it deactivates after a certain period without a request.

Note: Siri cannot be activated by saying “Hey Siri”, even if “Hey Siri” is enabled on your iPhone. Siri may not be activated depending on your smartphone’s specifications or app version.

Precautions

Note on Static Electricity: If you use the headphones in dry air, you may experience a slight tingling sensation in your ears. This is not a malfunction of the headphones but static electricity that builds up on your body. You can reduce this effect by wearing clothing made from natural materials that do not easily generate static electricity.

Notes on Wearing the Headphones:

  • Slowly remove the headphones from your ears after use.
  • The earbud tips seal tightly in your ears. If you force the earbud tips or pull them out quickly, you may damage your eardrum. When you put on the headphones, the speaker diaphragm may produce a clicking sound. This is not a malfunction.
  • Prolonged use of the headphones may cause symptoms such as itching or irritation of the ears. If any of the above symptoms occur during headphone use, stop using them immediately and consult your doctor, Sony customer support, or your nearest Sony retailer. It is recommended to remove the headphones periodically for prolonged use.

Other Notes:

  • Do not expose the headphones to strong impacts, as they are precision devices.
  • Periodically clean the plug with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not breathe into the sound outlet tube.
  • If you feel discomfort while using the headphones, stop using them immediately.
  • Earbud tips may be damaged or deteriorate due to prolonged use and storage.
  • Do not drop the headphones or expose them to mechanical shock. This may deform or damage the headphones, impairing their performance.
  • The headphones are not waterproof. If water or a foreign object enters the headphones, it may cause burning or malfunction. If water or a foreign object enters the headphones, stop using them immediately and contact a Sony service center or your nearest Sony retailer. Be especially careful in the following situations:
    • When using the headphones near a sink or container with liquid. Be careful not to drop the headphones into a sink or container filled with water.
    • When using the headphones in the rain, snow, or in wet locations.
    • When using the headphones while sweating.
    • If you touch the headphones with wet hands or put them in the pocket of wet clothing, they may become wet.

Cleaning the Headphones: You can wipe off dust and dirt on the exterior of the headphones with a damp cloth wrung out of clean water. Do not use the following items, as they may damage the headphone surface or cause other damage:

  • Wet wipes containing alcohol
  • Thinner
  • Benzene, etc.

Do Not Use Headphones Near Medical Devices: The headphones contain magnets. Magnets may interfere with pacemakers, programmable shunt valves for hydrocephalus treatment, or other medical devices. Do not place the headphones near individuals who use such medical devices. If you use such medical devices, consult your doctor before using the headphones.

Keep Headphones Away from Magnetic Cards: The headphones have magnets. If a magnetic card is brought close to the headphones, the card's magnetism may be damaged or deactivated.

To Prevent Fire or Malfunction Due to Wetting

About Headphone Water Resistance: The headphones are not waterproof. If water or a foreign object enters the headphones, it may cause burning or malfunction. Avoid the following situations and be careful not to expose the headphones to moisture or dirt:

  • Touching the headphones without drying your hands after doing household chores in the kitchen or washing your hands at the sink.
  • Putting the headphones in the pocket of wet clothing.
  • Placing the headphones in a bag with a cold PET bottle.
  • Spilling drinks while eating or drinking.

Note: If the headphones are not used correctly, water may enter and cause damage. The headphones are not waterproof. Do not immerse them in water or use them in humid places such as bathrooms. Do not drop or expose the headphones to mechanical shock, as this may deform or damage them.
