Understanding Serial Numbers and Date Codes

The serial number on all Franklin Electric motors is etched or engraved into the motor stator shell, located just above the etched nameplate information.

Date Code Structure Explained

The date code provides key manufacturing details. The structure is typically broken down as follows:

The first two digits represent the year of manufacture. The third digit represents the month of manufacture, using letters A through M (excluding I, which resembles the number 1). The third and fourth digits together represent the manufacturing plant.

The second grouping of numbers indicates the day of the month and the build sequence. For example, in the sequence number 03 B 62 – 12 2643:

  • 03: Year of Manufacture (2003)
  • B: Month of Manufacture (February)
  • 62: Franklin Mfg Plant (Wittlich, Germany)
  • 12: Day of Month (12th)
  • 2643: Daily sequence number

Special Dispatch Codes

When a motor is dispatched from Franklin Electric in Melbourne, an additional date code is applied to the stator, using the Month and Year sequencing. Examples include A03, J04, F05.
