Audio Authority Model 1311 DVI+Digital Audio to HDMI Converter

Audio Authority Model 1312 HDMI to DVI+Digital Audio Converter

1.0 Introduction

Thanks for purchasing this 1311 or 1312 AV signal converter from Audio Authority. The 1312 converts HDMI inputs to Digital DVI signals and provides an S/PDIF Audio output. The converted HDMI video signal can then be connected to an HDTV with a DVI input or to a DVI switcher's inputs. The 1311 converts a Digital DVI signal and S/PDIF Audio input to an HDMI format allowing the viewing or switching of a digital AV signal on an HDMI system. Both the 1311 and 1312 are HDCP compliant. Audio Authority also offers an extensive line of audio and video switchers, converters and distribution amps available for purchase online at www.audioauthority.com.

3.0 Checking Package Contents

Before attempting to use this unit, please check the packaging and make certain the following items are contained in the shipping carton:

Note: Please retain the original packing material should the need ever arise to return the unit. If you find any items are missing, contact Audio Authority immediately. Have the Model Number, Serial Number and Invoice available for reference when you call.

4.0 Connecting The Hardware

Please study the panel drawings below and become familiar with the signal input(s), output(s) and power requirements.

Model 1311 DVI + Digital Audio to HDMI Converter

The Model 1311 converter features a DVI-I input port labeled "DVI IN", a digital audio input port labeled "DIGITAL AUDIO IN", a 5VDC power input port, and an HDMI output port labeled "HDMI OUT". Regulatory compliance marks (FCC, CE) are visible near the ports.

Model 1312 HDMI to DVI + Digital Audio Converter

The Model 1312 converter features an HDMI input port labeled "HDMI IN", a 5VDC power input port, a DVI output port labeled "DVI OUT", and a digital audio output port labeled "DIGITAL AUDIO OUT". Regulatory compliance marks (FCC, CE) are visible near the ports.

5.0 Operating The Unit

Before installation, please make sure all devices you wish to connect have been turned off.

  1. Connect the AC adapter to the Converter's power input (Do not plug the adapter into an AC outlet yet).
  2. Connect the appropriate cables to the source device and then the Converter.
  3. Connect the output cables to the Converter and then to the destination device.
  4. Plug the Power Adapter into a working AC outlet.
  5. Power on all input and output devices.

The DVI-HDCP input signal should now be available to all devices connected to the device outputs. Neither converter unit has any controls that require adjustment.

6.0 Troubleshooting

If the Converter does not appear to be functioning, make certain that the source and destination device connected to the unit are functioning correctly by connecting each device using a cable with a length of 6 feet or less. (In other words, make certain that the problem is not caused by long cables.) If the signal is present under those conditions, make certain that the power is present to the converter. If it is, measure the cable length you are attempting to use between the sources to the switcher and the switcher to the monitor. The input cables should be 6 feet or less in length and the output cables must be less than 33 feet long and all cables should be premium quality. Lastly, inspect the cables and connectors for damage.

6.1 Non-HDCP Compliant Devices

If a DVI device does not appear to work, make certain that the device is HDCP compliant. A non-HDCP compliant DVI device will not work with a signal that has HDCP encoding present.

6.2 Cable Length

If you need to span a distance of greater than 6 feet to reach the converter, purchase Audio Authority's 1351 DVI Repeater which will allow you to extend a cable run up to 40 feet using premium cable.

6.3 Complex Configurations

Due to the nature of High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection, and the many types of information that must be passed along the chain of devices, complex configurations involving DVI distribution amps and switchers may not work as expected. Do not use a DVI switcher in the signal path after a distribution amp; this configuration does not work.

If the problem still persists after trying the above suggestions, contact the Audio Authority Technical Service department via email: support@audioauthority.com, or call 800-322-8346 or 859-233-4599.

7.0 Limited Warranty

Should any consumer use product from Audio Authority fail due to defects in materials or workmanship within one year from the date of the original sale to the end-user, Audio Authority guarantees that we will replace the defective product at no cost. Freight charges for the replacement unit will be paid by Audio Authority (Ground service only). A copy of the invoice showing the item number and date of purchase (proof-of-purchase) must be submitted with the defective unit to constitute a valid in-warranty claim.

Units that fail after the warranty period has expired may be returned to the factory for repair at a nominal charge, if not damaged beyond the point of repair. All freight charges for out-of-warranty returns for repair are the responsibility of the customer. Units returned for repair must have a Return Authorization Number assigned by the factory.

This is a limited warranty and is not applicable for products which, in our opinion, have been damaged, altered, abused, misused, or improperly installed. Audio Authority makes no other warranties either expressed or implied, including limitation warranties as to merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Additionally, there are no allowances or credits available for service work or installation performed in the field by the end user.

Warranty Service Procedures

If you suspect a product defect, contact Audio Authority's Technical Service Department at 800-322-8346 or 859-233-4599 for assistance in verifying the problem. If a defect or potential defect is suspected, a replacement unit will be shipped immediately on a defect-exchange basis and a Return Authorization Number will be issued for the return of the defective product. Replacement units are sent out at the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price which is debited to the Customer's Credit Card at the time of shipment. Once we receive the defective unit back at the factory, it will be evaluated under the conditions of this warranty and if found to be in-warranty, a full credit will be issued to the Customer's Credit Card. Return freight charges for the defective unit are the customer's responsibility.

Please contact our Technical Service Department for complete details concerning all in and out of warranty service matters.

We appreciate your confidence in our products and services and will always strive to meet or exceed your needs.
