Updating ListenTALK Firmware

This document provides step-by-step instructions on how to update the firmware of ListenTALK units and docking stations.

Tools Needed

Note: To avoid interruption, do not disconnect power, remove units from the dock, or disconnect USB cables during the update. Ensure the computer remains powered on and does not enter sleep mode.

Updating the Docking Station

Ensure the docking station (LA-480, LA-481, or LA-482) is powered and connected to the computer. Open the ListenTALK Software Suite. Accept any software update prompts before proceeding. Updates can be performed with or without units in the dock.

  1. Click the info button (i) for the dock to display its current firmware version, model, and serial number.
  2. Click the button displaying the current firmware version.
  3. The software will search for the latest update online and locally. Once found, click the 'Update' button.
  4. The docking station will temporarily disappear from the software. The 'Firmware Update Master' window will appear. Select the latest firmware from the dropdown menu and click the green arrow button ▶️ to start the update.
  5. The update typically takes about 1 minute. Upon completion, the 'Update Master' window closes, and the dock reappears on the software screen. Click the dock's info button (i) again to verify the updated firmware version.

Updating All ListenTALK Units While Docked (Preferred Method)

Insert all ListenTALK units into the docking station. Ensure the docking station firmware is updated first.

  1. Click the info button (i) for the dock containing the units to be updated.
  2. Click the 'Update All Units' button.
  3. The software searches for the latest update. A window will display the new firmware version and estimated update time. Click 'Update' to begin.
  4. A message window will appear indicating the update is in progress.
  5. The 'Dock Unit Updater' window will open, showing the firmware update progress for each unit.
  6. After the firmware update, a confirmation message appears, followed by a DA version check. If a DA update is needed, it will begin automatically, showing its progress.
  7. Note: Steps 5 and 6 repeat for each unit. Individual unit updates take about 1 minute, or 4-5 minutes if a DA update is required.
  8. Once all units are updated, a 'Firmware Update Results' window displays, showing all updated units with a confirmation checkmark ✔️ on each.

Updating Individual ListenTALK Units via USB

Connect individual ListenTALK units to the computer using a USB to micro USB cable and open the software suite.

  1. Click on the unit requiring an update to open its info & settings window. Click the '1' button under the 'Unit' field to display unit information.
  2. Click the button showing the unit's current firmware version.
  3. The software searches for the latest update. After finding the update file, click the 'Update' button.
  4. The unit will disappear from the software while a driver installs. The 'Firmware Update Master' window will then appear. Click the green arrow button ▶️ to start the firmware update for the unit.
  5. The update takes approximately 1 minute. The 'Update Master' window closes upon completion, and the unit reappears on the software screen. Click the unit's info button (i) to verify the updated firmware version.
  6. DA Update: Some firmware updates require an additional DA update. A red slash symbol ❌ over a unit indicates a DA version mismatch.
  7. Select the unit with the red slash symbol ❌ and click its info button (i). Click the red 'Update DA' button to start the DA update.
  8. A DA update window will appear, and the update will begin automatically, typically taking about 3 minutes.
  9. After the DA update completes, the red slash symbol ❌ will be removed. Click the unit's info button (i) to confirm that the 'Update DA' button is no longer red and that the 'Current Version' and 'Pair Version' match.
