Regin HR1/HR2 Humidistat: Instruction Manual
Product Overview
The Regin HR1/HR2 humidistat is designed to control humidity levels in various applications. It utilizes a human hair sensor that expands and contracts with changes in humidity, transmitting these movements to a micro switch. This mechanism allows for precise control of humidification and dehumidification systems.
The device features a setpoint adjustment for humidity levels ranging from 10% to 95% RH. Its changeover contacts enable it to manage both humidification and dehumidification processes. The robust construction with minimal moving parts ensures high reliability and accuracy.
Models and Features
- HR1: Single-step humidistat for 10A applications. Features a closing contact that activates when humidity increases.
- HR1-DH: Specifically designed for dehumidifying units, handling currents up to 10A. It has a closing contact activated by increasing humidity.
- HR2: Two-step humidistat with two micro switches. The step differential between them can be adjusted.
Functionality
The humidistat's function is based on the hygroscopic properties of human hair. As humidity increases, the hair stretches, and as it decreases, it contracts. This movement is translated to a micro switch. The setpoint knob adjusts the position of the micro switches relative to the hair element.
The humidistat can control both humidification and dehumidification due to its changeover contact type. This makes it versatile for various climate control needs.
Technical Data

Mounting | Wall mounting. Suitable for bathroom zone 3. |
Weight | 0.125 kg |
Protection Class | IP21 |
Output Relay Contact Data | 5A, 250 VAC, changeover contact. HR-DH: 10A, 250 VAC, closing contact. |
Settings | Setpoint: 10-95% RH Hysteresis: 4% RH at 45% RH Step Differential (HR2): 0-30% RH |
Installation
Install the humidistat in an area with stable temperature and good air circulation. The mounting holes are spaced 60 mm center-to-center to fit standard wall boxes.
Wiring
HR1: The contact between terminals 1 and 3 closes when humidity exceeds the setpoint.
- Humidification: Terminals 1+2
- Dehumidification: Terminals 1+3
HR1-DH: The contact between terminals 1 and 2 closes when humidity exceeds the setpoint (dehumidification).
HR2: The contact between terminals 1 and 3 closes when humidity exceeds the setpoint. If humidity continues to rise and exceeds the setpoint for step 2, the contact between terminals 4 and 6 closes.
- 2-step humidification: Terminals 1+2 and 4+6
- 2-step dehumidification: Terminals 1+3 and 4+5
- Humidification + dehumidification: Terminals 1+2 and 4+6
Calibration
Calibrate the humidistat after installation and at regular intervals (e.g., at the start of each heating season) for optimal performance.
- Measure the relative humidity near the humidistat using an accurate instrument.
- Remove the front cover and loosen the setpoint locking screw.
- Adjust the setpoint knob until the switching point is found. Use the calibration screw (accessible through slots at the bottom) to fine-tune the switch activation point to match the measured humidity. Turn clockwise to increase the switching value, counter-clockwise to decrease it.
- Set the setpoint knob to the desired control value and lock it with the locking screw if necessary.
- For HR2, adjust the step differential using the screw on the micro switch actuator. The factory setting is 0%; turn clockwise to increase the differential.
Maintenance
Dust the hair element annually with a soft brush. Do not wash the hair element with water, as this can alter the calibration. Ensure that no dust or other matter accumulates on the sensing element, as this can impair its hygroscopic exchange with the surrounding air.
Typical Applications
The humidistat can be used to control humidifiers, dehumidifiers, or fans for on/off control. It can also be used for alarm functions when humidity levels exceed or fall below preset thresholds.
