SETUP & PREPARATION

1. SECURING THE HANDLES

The upper and mid handles must be secured before use.

  1. Place the mid-handle frame onto the lower handle frame, aligning the holes. Use two handle lock knob and bolt sets to secure them together, positioning the knobs on the inside of the frame and tightening securely.
  2. Attach the upper handle to the mid-handle frame using the remaining two handle lock knobs.
  3. Use the supplied cable ties to fasten the cable container to the mid-handle and upper handle frame.

2. FUEL

WARNING: PETROL IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. Avoid smoking, sparks, or flames near fuel. Ensure the motor is stopped and cooled before refuelling. Refuel in an open, outdoor area, at least 3 meters away from the fuelling point before starting the motor.

Motor fuel: mix at 40:1 only

NOTE: Only use oil expressly labelled for air-cooled 2-stroke engines.

NOTE: Always transport and store fuels in an approved container. The supplied bottle is for mixing only.

  1. Fill with unleaded petrol (91 octane) up to the fuel line.
  2. Add 2-stroke oil up to the oil line. Shake sufficiently for a thorough mix. (Visual representation of filling the fuel tank with petrol and oil mix)
  3. Fill the fuel tank to about 80% capacity with the fuel mix. Fuel tank capacity: 500ml.
  4. Fasten the fuel tank cap and clean any spillage.

WARNING: NEVER attempt to fuel the edger if fuel system components are damaged or leaking.

WARNING: ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL BEFORE FUELLING. NEVER attempt to refuel a warm or running engine.

WARNING: NEVER PLACE FLAMMABLE MATERIAL CLOSE TO THE ENGINE MUFFLER.

3. ADJUSTING CUTTING DEPTH

The edger features a height adjustment lever for easy cutting height adjustment. There are 5 height settings ranging from 8mm to 45mm.

  1. To decrease cutting height: Pull the height adjustment lever out and move it up one notch towards the handlebar. (Diagram showing the height adjustment lever being moved up to decrease cutting height)
  2. To increase cutting height: Pull the height adjustment lever out and move it down one notch towards the front of the unit. (Diagram showing the height adjustment lever being moved down to increase cutting height)

NOTE: If unsure about the cutting height, start with a higher setting and perform a trial cut on a small section of the lawn's edge. Readjust if necessary.

4. OPERATION

Starting

NOTE: Do not squeeze the throttle before starting.

  1. Press the On/Off switch on the handle to the On (I) position.
  2. Press the primer bulb until full of fuel.
  3. Push the choke lever up to the start position. (NOTE: Primer bulb and choke start position may be unnecessary if the engine is warm)
  4. Pull the recoil starter until the engine starts. (Diagram showing recoil starter action)
  5. Push the choke lever down to the run position. Restart if the motor stops.
  6. Tilt the unit backwards so the blade is clear of the ground. (Diagram showing unit tilted backwards)
  7. Squeeze the throttle gently. Allow the engine to run for 60 seconds to warm up.

Stopping

  1. To stop the engine, release the throttle so the engine idles and the blade stops spinning.
  2. Press the On/Off switch to the Off (O) position. (Diagram showing On/Off switch in Off position)

WARNING: THE LAWN EDGER RUNS FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER BEING SWITCHED OFF. LET THE MOTOR COME TO A COMPLETE STANDSTILL BEFORE SETTING THE TOOL DOWN.

5. EDGING

WARNING: BEFORE EDGING, CHECK THAT THE AREA IS CLEAR OF ANY OBSTACLES AND OBJECTS THAT COULD BE THROWN.

NOTE: Adjust cutting depth progressively to the desired level. Do not overload; maintain a minimum initial cutting depth. If the edger slows, pull back slightly and wait for the blade to return to normal speed.

With cutting height adjusted and the engine running, edging can commence:

  1. While the engine is idling, align the edger's cutting blade with the edge to be cut. Use the arrow label on the blade guard for guidance. (Diagram showing blade alignment)
  2. Before edging, tilt the handle down so the blade is above ground level to prevent kickback. (Diagram showing unit tilted for blade clearance)
  3. When starting to edge, pull the throttle lever. Run the engine at full throttle and gently lower the blade into the ground. Avoid hitting concrete with the blade.
  4. Walk forward slowly, keeping the cutting blade aligned with the edge. If the edger slows due to grass buildup in the blade guard, walk back slightly to allow grass to fall out. Let the blade return to normal speed before continuing. (Diagram showing forward motion and blade action)
  5. Continue until all sides of your driveway and footpaths are edged.
  6. Release the throttle lever. Press the On/Off switch to the Off (O) position and let the motor stop completely.

WARNING: THE MOTOR HOUSING MAY BECOME VERY HOT DURING USE. AVOID CONTACT DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER OPERATION.

NOTE: Some sparks may be generated when the blade contacts a solid edge (e.g., concrete). Align the blade to avoid contact.

NOTE: If the blade guard becomes clogged, tilt the handle down so the blade is above ground level to clear debris. If debris does not fall out, stop the motor, wait for the blade to stop rotating, and remove debris from the blade guard.

MAINTENANCE

6. CHANGING THE CUTTING BLADE

WARNING: BEFORE CLEANING OR PERFORMING MAINTENANCE, ENSURE THE ENGINE IS OFF AND COOL. DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL STARTING.

  1. Lay the petrol edger on its side with the cutting blade facing up. (NOTE: The cutting blade rotates anti-clockwise)
  2. Hold the spindle with an 8mm hex key (supplied). Use the supplied spanner to remove the flange nut by turning anti-clockwise. (Diagram showing spindle held and nut being loosened)
  3. Remove the flange nut and blade. (NOTE: Ensure inner and outer flanges are clean of dirt/grass before fitting)
  4. Fit the new blade over the inner flange.
  5. Fit the flange nut and tighten firmly clockwise using the open spanner. Use an 8mm hex key to stop the spindle rotating. (Diagram showing blade replacement and tightening)

7. GENERAL MAINTENANCE

  2. Remove the air filter, brush off dry particles, or tap on a hard surface to dislodge them. (Diagram showing air filter removal and cleaning)
  3. Replace the air filter, air filter cover, and air filter cover locking knob.

Replacing the spark plug

If the Petrol Edger fails to start after checking other components, the spark plug likely needs replacing. Spark plugs are not covered under warranty.

  1. Pull the spark plug lead off the spark plug.
  2. Loosen the spark plug anti-clockwise using the larger socket side of the spark plug spanner.
  3. Remove the old spark plug and replace it with a new one (Spark plug: LD BM6A).
  4. Secure the new spark plug clockwise using the spark plug spanner.
  5. Fix the spark plug lead back onto the spark plug, ensuring it clicks into place. (Diagram showing spark plug replacement steps)

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

RISK OF EXPLOSION OR FIRE

What can happen: Spilled petrol and vapours can ignite from sparks, electrical arcing, exhaust gases, or hot engine components. Heat can expand fuel, leading to fire. Operating in explosive environments can cause fire. Muffler exhaust heat can damage surfaces, melt materials, and harm plants. Improperly stored fuel can lead to accidental ignition or access by children.

How to prevent it: Shut off the engine and allow it to cool before refuelling. Use care when filling to avoid spills; move the tool away from the fuelling area before starting. Keep maximum fuel level 20mm below the tank top for expansion. Operate and refuel in well-ventilated areas free from obstructions. Store fuel in an approved container (AS/NZS 2906-1999) in a secure, clearly marked location away from the work area.

RISK TO BREATHING

What can happen: Breathing exhaust fumes can cause serious injury or death.

How to prevent it: Operate the tool in a well-ventilated area, avoiding enclosed spaces. Never operate the unit in a location occupied by other people or animals.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

1) Work area

  • Keep the work area clean and well lit.
  • Do not operate petrol tools in explosive atmospheres (flammable liquids, gases, dust). Power tools create sparks that may ignite dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away during operation. Distractions can lead to loss of control.

2) Personal safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense. Do not use while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
  • Use safety equipment: always wear eye protection. Safety equipment like dust masks, non-skid shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection reduces personal injury.
  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the tool on.
  • Do not overreach; maintain proper footing and balance for better control.
  • Dress properly: avoid loose clothing or jewellery. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  • If dust extraction facilities are provided, ensure they are connected and used properly.

3) Petrol tool use and care

  • Do not force the tool; use the correct tool for the application.
  • Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
  • Turn the tool off completely before making adjustments, changing accessories, or storing it.
  • Store idle tools out of reach of children and do not allow untrained persons to operate them.
  • Maintain tools: check for misalignment, binding, or breakage of parts. Have damaged tools repaired before use.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean for less binding and easier control.
  • Use the tool and accessories according to instructions and intended use, considering working conditions.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person.
