Preparing the Modem

A diagram showing a modem and router connection. The modem has a power button and indicator lights. The router has its ports labeled. An 'Unplug' icon is shown next to the modem's power cable.
  1. Unplug the power from your cable or DSL modem. If it has a backup battery, remove it.
  2. Connect the modem to the router with the provided network cable.
  3. Power on your cable or DSL modem.
  4. Check the LED lights on the cable or DSL modem to ensure the connection is active.
NOTE: If you are using DSL for Internet, you will need the username and password from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to properly configure the router.
