1 Introduction

The Alarm hub is a central device in the security system, controlling all connected accessories, including wireless keyfobs, sirens, door detectors, and PIR detectors. If the security system detects the presence, entry, or attempted entry of an intruder into the armed area, the hub receives alarm signals from the detectors and alerts users.

2 Checklist

Check the package contents against the following checklist. Contact customer service if any items are damaged or missing.

Appendix 1 Cybersecurity Recommendations

Cybersecurity is crucial for devices connected to the internet. Implementing basic steps can strengthen networks and appliances against attacks.

Mandatory actions for basic device network security:

  1. Use Strong Passwords:
    • Length should be at least 8 characters.
    • Include at least two character types (upper/lower case letters, numbers, symbols).
    • Do not use account name or its reverse.
    • Do not use continuous characters (e.g., 123, abc).
    • Do not use overlapped characters (e.g., 111, aaa).
  2. Update Firmware and Client Software in Time: Keep device firmware up-to-date for the latest security patches. Enable "auto-check for updates" when connected to a public network. Use the latest client software version.

"Nice to have" recommendations to improve device network security:

  1. Physical Protection: Place devices in secure locations (e.g., computer room, cabinet) with access control and key management to prevent unauthorized physical access or tampering.
  2. Change Passwords Regularly: Regularly change passwords to reduce the risk of guessing or cracking.
  3. Set and Update Password Reset Information Timely: Set up password reset information (mailbox, protection questions) and update it if changes occur. Use non-easily guessable protection questions.
  4. Enable Account Lock: Keep the account lock feature enabled to prevent unauthorized logins. Accounts and source IPs are locked after multiple incorrect password attempts.
  5. Change Default HTTP and Other Service Ports: Change default ports to numbers between 1024-65535 to reduce the risk of outsiders guessing them.
  6. Enable HTTPS: Use HTTPS for secure web service communication.
  7. MAC Address Binding: Bind IP and MAC addresses of the gateway to the device to reduce ARP spoofing risk.
  8. Assign Accounts and Privileges Reasonably: Add users and assign minimum necessary permissions according to business and management requirements.
  9. Disable Unnecessary Services and Choose Secure Modes: Turn off unnecessary services (e.g., SNMP, SMTP, UPnP). Use safe modes for necessary services:
    • SNMP: Use SNMP v3 with strong encryption and authentication passwords.
    • SMTP: Use TLS for mailbox server access.
    • FTP: Use SFTP with strong passwords.
    • AP hotspot: Use WPA2-PSK encryption mode with strong passwords.
  10. Audio and Video Encrypted Transmission: Use encrypted transmission for sensitive audio and video data to prevent theft. Note: Encryption may reduce transmission efficiency.
  11. Secure Auditing: Regularly check online users for unauthorized logins. Check device logs to identify IP addresses used for login and their operations.
  12. Network Log: Enable network log function to synchronize critical logs to a network log server for tracing, especially due to limited device storage.
  13. Construct a Safe Network Environment:
    • Disable router port mapping to prevent direct external access to intranet devices.
    • Partition and isolate networks using VLAN, network GAP, etc., to achieve network isolation.
    • Establish 802.1x access authentication for private networks.
    • Enable IP/MAC address filtering to limit access to the device.
