Product Safety and Health Statement
Proper e-collar use
Dogtra e-collars are designed solely for dog behavior modification and are not for human or other animal use. Dogtra-Europe disclaims liability for improper use.
Aggressive dogs
Dogtra strongly advises consulting a dog training professional when using an e-collar on aggressive dogs.
Interference with other electronic devices
Dogtra's technology minimizes interference with devices like garage door openers and mobile phones. Its digital microprocessor uses thousands of unique codes to prevent frequency match-up with other Dogtra e-collars. Individuals with medical devices should consult a physician before using the e-collar.
Inadvertent activation
Holding the constant button for 12 seconds or more automatically shuts down the unit. It reactivates upon button release and re-depression.
Proper Fit
A loose receiver/collar can cause skin irritation from rubbing contact points and inconsistent stimulation. Ensure a snug fit for proper contact.
Duration your dog can wear the unit
Extended wear in one location can cause skin irritation. Reposition the receiver/collar occasionally and check for irritation each time. Consult a veterinarian if irritation signs appear.
Reaction to the stimulation
Dogs vary in tolerance and reaction. Observe your dog to find the correct stimulation level, which may need adjustment based on situation and distractions (e.g., a distracted dog may require higher stimulation).
Training Methods
E-collars can be used with various methods. For concerns about Dogtra's training methods, consult a dog training professional.

To turn the receiver on, place the red dot on the back of the transmitter to the red dot on the receiver. Hold them together momentarily until the receiver's LED light comes on. To turn it off, repeat the procedure; the LED light will briefly turn red indicating shutdown.
2. Transmitter Button Function
The ARC800 FREE PLUS transmitter has five buttons and a toggle switch. The receiver can be changed by pressing the toggle switch up and down. For a 2-dog system, pair the new receiver to the orange buttons.
Nick Button
Located on the top left side of the handheld transmitter. Pressing it emits a single rapid pulse of electrical stimulation from the receiver.
Constant Button
Located on the bottom left side of the handheld transmitter. Pressing it provides continuous stimulation for up to 12 seconds. As a safety feature, stimulation automatically turns off after 12 seconds. The receiver is ready for reactivation once the button is released.
Pager Button
Located on the face of the transmitter. Pressing it provides vibration for up to 12 seconds.
On/Off Button
To turn on the ARC800 FREE PLUS, press and hold the right on/off button until the front LCD screen turns on. To turn off, press and hold the right on/off button until the LCD screen turns off. The LCD light automatically dims after 4 seconds.

Note: The saved setting will remain even if the unit is turned off. To reset the setting, repeat the steps above.
3. ARC800 FREE PLUS Code Setting
Follow these steps to code an ARC800 FREE PLUS transmitter to a new or existing additional receiver:
Set 1D or 2D using the Toggle Switch on the transmitter and dial to set the stimulus level to '0'.
With the receiver turned off, place the red dot on the transmitter to the red dot on the receiver. Hold them together until the green LED blinks rapidly on the receiver.
Press the 'Nick Button' and 'Constant Button' on the transmitter when the receiver's LED is blinking.
The LED flashes every 4 seconds after the receiver's LED comes on, indicating connection complete.
4. HANDSFREE SQUARE Information
The HANDSFREE SQUARE provides remote, discreet fingertip control. Its function (Nick, Constant, or Pager) can be coded for remote operation without carrying the transmitter. It has been tested for extreme conditions (-20 °C to 60 °C).
Note: The HANDSFREE SQUARE is compatible with previous HANDSFREE line versions. Previous HANDSFREE series can pair only one HANDSFREE SQUARE per transmitter, while HANDSFREE PLUS series can pair up to 14 HANDSFREE SQUARES per transmitter.
Range
The handheld transmitter's range depends on its placement, as the body can act as a barrier. Keep the antenna open for maximum range. Placing the transmitter in a bag or pocket where the antenna is covered may reduce range. The HANDSFREE SQUARE must be within 10 meters of the transmitter to work.
Battery Life
The HANDSFREE SQUARE's LED blinks when the button is pressed. Replace the battery when the LED no longer blinks. With normal usage (button held for 12 seconds, 100 times a day), the battery should last 7-10 years.
Fastening the HANDSFREE SQUARE Strap
The HANDSFREE SQUARE strap can be fastened to the wrist, palm, or around a gun stock.
Wrap the strap around the object. Pull the strap through the lower section of the buckle and use the notch to secure the HANDSFREE SQUARE.
Loop the strap back through the top section of the buckle.
Changing the HANDSFREE SQUARE Setting
The default setting for the HANDSFREE SQUARE is Constant stimulation. To change the setting or add more HANDSFREE SQUARES:
Begin with the transmitter turned off.
On the handheld transmitter, hold down the appropriate buttons to code the desired setting on the HANDSFREE SQUARE.
ARC800 FREE PLUS - 1st Dog & ARC802 FREE PLUS - 2nd Dog

Pager (2nd Dog): Move toggle switch up for 'D2'. Hold on/off and Pager buttons.
Boost (2nd Dog): Move toggle switch up for 'D2'. Hold on/off and Boost buttons.
5. Receiver Fitting
The receiver/collar should be fitted so that the surgical stainless steel contact points press firmly against the dog's skin. When properly fitted, you should be able to fit one or two fingers snugly between the contact points and your dog's skin. The receiver/collar should not move. The best location is either side of the dog's windpipe. A loose fit can cause skin irritation and inconsistent stimulation. A too-tight fit can hinder breathing.
Attention! Leaving the receiver in the same location on the dog's neck for an extended period can cause skin irritation. Reposition the receiver every few hours and remove it after 8 hours of usage. Always check for skin irritation.
6. Finding the Right Stimulation
The ARC800 FREE PLUS features a Rheostat Dial on the transmitter (0 is lowest, 127 is highest). Adjust the setting based on your dog's temperament and stimulation threshold. Always start at the lowest level and gradually increase. The appropriate level is found when the dog shows a mild reaction. Intensity may need adjustment during times of excitement or distraction.
Note: Stimulation level can be adjusted while in use. Increasing the level does not affect Pager vibration strength, which has only one level.
7. Maximizing the Distance
The ARC800 FREE PLUS has a maximum range of 800 meters, which can vary based on transmitter usage. For greatest range, hold the transmitter away from your body and avoid touching the antenna. Ensure the unit is properly charged for maximum signal strength. Range is reduced when the antenna is covered or in contact with your body. For optimal range, carry the handheld transmitter with the antenna facing away from you. Do not place the transmitter with the antenna touching your body or facing downwards.
8. LED Indicator
The LED indicator flashes every 4 seconds when the receiver is on and ready. It blinks on both transmitter and receiver when buttons are pressed. The LED color indicates battery life: Green = Full charge, Amber = Medium charge, Red = Needs charge. If used when red, the unit may shut down automatically.
Receiver Indicator Light
When the Constant button is pressed, the receiver indicator light glows steadily (green, amber, or red based on battery life) for up to 12 seconds. When the Nick button is pressed, the light comes on for a fraction of a second.
9. Charging the Battery
The Dogtra ARC800 FREE PLUS uses a Lithium Polymer battery. Recharge the unit if the indicator light is red, does not come on, the transmitter LCD shows only 1 bar, or the system won't stay on when buttons are pressed.
Note 1: Only use Dogtra-approved batteries, chargers, and accessories to prevent damage.
Note 2: The unit has a partial charge from the factory. Give it a full 2-hour initial charge before first use, away from flammable substances.
Follow the steps below to charge your system:
Open the rubber plugs on the battery charging receptacles and plug in the charging cable.
Plug the charger into a 220-volt wall outlet or, if using the auto charger, into a cigarette lighter (for lithium polymer batteries only). All indicator lights glow red when properly plugged in, and the unit automatically shuts off during charging. Turn the unit on again after full charge and unplugging.
The lithium polymer battery fully charges within 2 hours. Lights stay red during charging and turn green when fully charged.
After charging, cover the battery charging receptacles with the rubber plugs.
Charger Info
Manufacturer: E-SUN
Manufacturing country: CHINA
Model name: MKC-1001500SEU
INPUT: 100-240V~50/60Hz 0.4A
OUTPUT: 10V 1500mA 15.0W
Attention! During battery charging, the unit must be close to the wall outlet and the wall outlet must be easily accessible for security reasons.
10. Handheld Transmitter LCD
The LCD screen indicates the stimulation level from 0-127. The battery life indicator shows: 3 bars = full charge, 2 bars = medium charge, 1 bar = needs charge. The battery life indicator only shows the transmitter's remaining charge. To check the receiver's charge, observe its LED indicator light.
Care for LCD Transmitters in Cold Temperature
In cold temperatures (-12°C or below), the LCD may be dim or slow to respond. Wait for the display to become visible before selecting a training level. The transmitter will still function properly even if the LCD is dim or slow. If the intensity level freezes due to extreme cold, turning the Rheostat Dial will still change the actual intensity from the receiver, even if not reflected on the LCD. It is best to wait for the transmitter to work properly or slowly turn the Rheostat Dial while holding the Constant button and observing the dog's reaction. Avoid rapid turning, as the receiver will emit static correction based on the dial's level, which may not be accurately reflected on the LCD.
11. Attaching the Belt Clip
Follow these instructions to attach the included belt clip to the transmitter:
Align the belt clip to the grooves on the back of the transmitter.
With a firm grip, screw on the belt clip's Phillips head screws with a screwdriver.
Caution! Tighten until firmly in place. Be careful not to overtighten.
12. Using the Test Light
A diagram shows the test light placed on the contact points of the receiver collar.
Turn on the receiver by pressing the on/off button. The indicator light will come on briefly, then blink every 4 seconds, showing it's ready (charge if red).
Turn on the transmitter by holding the on/off button on the right side. The LED will blink every 4 seconds, and the LCD will show remaining battery life (charge if only 1 bar).
Place the test light, included in the package, on the contact points as shown in the diagram.
Watch the test light as you press the Nick button on the transmitter. It should light up briefly. Higher intensity results in a brighter light.
Watch the test light as you press the Constant button. It should light up as long as pressed, but will automatically stop after 12 seconds as a safety feature.
Turn the Rheostat Dial clockwise and then counterclockwise. The test light should glow brighter with higher stimulation levels and dimmer with lower levels.
Note: The test light may not be visible if the intensity level is set below level ten.
General Training Tips
Dogs should know basic obedience commands before training with the ARC800 FREE PLUS. Training involves showing a command, repetition, and gradually introducing distractions.
Obedience Training on the Leash
Dogs must fully understand obedience commands (sit, stay, here, heel, kennel) before e-collar reinforcement. Use a leash to teach basic commands, reinforcing with a tug and positive reinforcement. Once understood, the e-collar can reinforce them.
Beginning E-Collar Training
Once the dog understands leash obedience, begin e-collar training. With the dog on leash and wearing the e-collar, continue drills. Apply light stimulation (Nick or Constant) when a command is given, removing it when the dog complies. Repetition teaches the dog to perform the command. The final avoidance phase teaches the dog to avoid stimulation by performing commands. The e-collar then serves as a reminder for non-compliance.
How Much Stimulation to Use
Always start with low stimulation levels and increase as needed based on the dog's disposition and situation. Correct stimulation creates a more controllable, less stressful environment. For more training information, consult a professional dog trainer.
Maintenance
Basic Maintenance
Ensure the rubber charging cap is secure when in use. After each training session, inspect the unit for missing parts or casing damage, which can affect waterproofing. After confirming no damage, rinse the receiver and clean dirt/debris.
Storage Maintenance
Fully charge the unit before storing for extended periods. While stored, fully charge monthly and before first use. Store units at room temperature, away from extreme climates.
Troubleshooting
If the unit malfunctions, refer to the "Troubleshooting Guide" before sending to Dogtra for service. For questions or concerns, email info@dogtra-europe.com or call customer service at +33 (0)1 30 62 65 65.
Troubleshooting Guide
1. My dog is not reacting to the collar.
Ensure the unit is turned on: Place the two red dots together to turn on the receiver, and push the black button on the transmitter until it illuminates.
Ensure the collar strap is tight enough for both contact points to touch the dog's skin.
Contact points may be too short. Order longer contact points by calling +33 (0)1 30 62 65 65 or emailing info@dogtra-europe.com. If using the longest points, trim the dog's neck hair.
The intensity level may be too low. Increase stimulation until the dog responds (e.g., neck movement, head shaking), which may be subtle.
2. The test light comes on, but I do not feel any stimulation.
Your tolerance may be higher than your dog's. Test the unit by placing both contact points on your inner wrist, where sensitivity is higher.
3. The transmitter has no range or stimulation is less when the dog is farther away.
Antenna(s) may be damaged. Order parts by contacting customer service at +33 (0)1 30 62 65 65 or visiting www.dogtra-europe.com.
The indicated range is for flat terrain. Heavy brush, trees, hills, or moisture affect range. For best range, hold the transmitter vertically above your head and/or move to higher ground.
Electrical conductors (cars, chain-link dog runs, metal buildings, radio towers) affect range. Operate away from these structures.
4. My unit is not holding a charge.
Batteries may not be charged properly, or the charger, splitter, and charging port need inspection. Contact customer service at info@dogtra-europe.com or +33 (0)1 30 62 65 65 to send units for inspection.
The charging pin may be damaged (wobbling, broken, or missing). Send the unit to the Repair Department. Clean the charging port with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Rinse receiver and charging port if exposed to salt-water.
For Dogtra units over two years old, batteries may need replacement. Users can replace them by contacting Dogtra, but improper installation voids warranty. Dogtra recommends sending units for inspection if problems persist after battery replacement.
