Operation - Shredding Paper
Follow the safety instructions. Ensure the collection bin for CDs/DVDs and bank cards/credit cards is positioned at the front of the collection bin for paper when shredding paper.
- Close the door of the document shredder.
- Connect the mains cable and plug into a mains socket.
- Switch on the main switch.
- Switch on the document shredder with the On, Off, Stop button.
Shredding Process:
- Pay attention to the maximum number of sheets of paper in the technical data.
- Place paper in the middle of the paper feed. The built-in photoelectric sensor starts the shredder automatically.
- The shredder switches off automatically and goes into standby when the paper feed is clear.
- Continuous operation: After extended operation (approx. 5 sec.) of the forward button, the shredder changes to continuous operation.
- If the paper supply is interrupted for 15 seconds, continuous operation is interrupted.
Operation - Shredding CDs/DVDs & Bank Cards
Ensure the collection bin for CDs/DVDs and bank cards/credit cards is positioned at the rear of the collection bin for paper when shredding these items.
- Pull out the collection bin and position the collection bin for CDs/DVDs and credit cards/bank cards at the rear.
- Close the door of the document shredder.
Shredding Process:
- Insert CDs, DVDs, or bank cards/credit cards in the middle of the feeder while keeping the Forward button pressed.
- The shredder switches off automatically and goes into standby once the CD/DVD feed is clear.
Significance of the Signals
DAHLE CleanTEC® - Changing DAHLE Fine Dust Filter:
- The filter change indicator illuminates on the control panel.
- Unplug the mains cable.
- Change the fine dust filter on the rear of the appliance: Undo screw (A), press catch and remove cover (B), remove filter (C) and dispose of it. It is imperative to fit a new DAHLE fine dust filter (D). Close cover (E) and tighten screw (F).
- Plug in the mains cable, switch on the main switch and the On, Off, Stop button.
- Reset filter change indicator: Keep the Forward and Reverse buttons pressed simultaneously for approx. 5 seconds.
DAHLE is not liable for improper use or failure to change the fine dust filter. The used filter can be disposed of in domestic waste. Fine dust particles are bound within the filter. Dispose of the filter in a manner that makes it inaccessible to children.
DAHLE Safe Technology - Paper Capacity Display:
This feature provides continuous paper volume measurement for smooth operation. Safe Technology checks material density before starting. If density is too high, shredding is inhibited. Reduce the number of sheets.
DAHLE Safe Technology - Automatic Acoustic Shut Down:
For immediate motor stop by voice control or by tapping the appliance:
- The shredding process stops by voice control or tapping the appliance.
- Operate the Reverse button to remove foreign bodies from the shredding mechanism.
- Reset the motor inhibit indicator by switching the shredder on and off.
DAHLE Safe Technology - Automatic Oiling (Cross-Cut Only):
Fill the oil tank with DAHLE document shredder oil. The integrated oil tank provides regulated, automatic oiling of the rollers.
- Fill the integrated oil tank when indicated on the display.
- Switch off the shredder.
- Open the door, access the oil tank, and open the cap.
- Fill the oil tank with DAHLE document shredder oil and close it.
Attention - 115 V: Paper can only be shredded after filling the oil tank.
Collection Bin Full:
The LED flashes and an audible warning sounds. If the collection bin is full, shredding stops. This is indicated acoustically and optically.
- Switch off the main switch and unplug the mains cable.
- Remove, empty, and re-fit the collection bin.
- Plug in the mains cable and switch on the main switch.
Automatic Motor Shut Down:
The LED flashes and an audible warning sounds in case of:
- Overheating of the motor.
- Paper jam.
- Microphone triggered.
Door Open:
The LED flashes and an audible warning sounds. If the door is open, shredding stops. Close the door.
Changing the Settings
Changing the Microphone Sensitivity:
- Switch on the shredder with the On, Off, Stop button.
- Press the On, Off, Stop button for approx. 5 seconds; the current microphone setting is indicated on the paper capacity display.
- Use the Reverse button to increase microphone sensitivity (B).
- Use the Forward button to reduce microphone sensitivity (A).
- Confirm your setting by pressing the On, Off, Stop button.
Changing the Factory Setting:
To adjust for different paper types or to correct performance in terms of sheets:
- Ensure the paper feed is clear.
- Switch off the appliance.
- Within 5 seconds, press the Reverse button for approx. 6 seconds until the paper capacity display (A) illuminates 1x.
- Place the required amount of paper (refer to technical data) in the paper feed.
- Keep the Forward button pressed for approx. 6 seconds until the paper capacity display (A) illuminates 1x.
- Fig. A indicates a small amount of paper; Fig. B indicates too much paper. Start again at step 1 if necessary.
- The factory setting has been changed. Switch the shredder back on.
Restoring the Factory Setting:
- Switch off the appliance.
- Keep the On, Off, Stop button pressed for 4 seconds.
- Release the On, Off, Stop button after the second audible warning.
- The factory setting has been restored.
Possible Malfunctions
Malfunction 1: Shredder switches off automatically after extended operation and/or overheating to cool down.
This is a normal function to prevent overheating. Allow the shredder to cool down.
Malfunction 2: Shredding process not started.
- No indication on control panel (LED not illuminated): Check if the mains cable is plugged in, the main switch is on, the On/Off/Stop button is activated, and the thermal cut-out is not tripped (ensure it is in the ON position).
- Indication on control panel (LED illuminated): Check if the door is open, the collection bin is full, there is an overload, the oil tank is empty (115 V models), or too many sheets of paper have been inserted.
Malfunction 3: Paper Jam.
- If too many sheets are inserted, the shredding process stops. The mechanism automatically reverses briefly to eject the paper.
- ATTENTION: To avoid damaging the shredding mechanism, do not operate the forward-reverse switch alternately.
- If the paper continues to be jammed, operate the Reverse button briefly.
- Reduce the number of sheets by removing or tearing off paper.
- The shredding process starts automatically after re-inserting paper, or operate the Forward button.
- For models 41334, 41434, 41534, 41634: In case of a paper jam, the mechanism reverses for 0.5 seconds. Remove the paper, then operate the Forward switch to clear the mechanism. The Reverse switch is inhibited until the Forward switch is actuated. Reduce the number of sheets.
Malfunction 4: Energy-saving mode.
If not used, the shredder enters energy-saving mode (flashing LED) after approx. 10 minutes. On renewed use, it takes approx. 3 seconds to start. In energy-saving mode, the shredder switches off if unused for approx. 20 minutes (LED off). To use the shredder, switch it back on with the On, Off, Stop button.
Maintenance and Care
Use only DAHLE spare parts!
- Switch off the document shredder and unplug the mains cable.
- Clean the appliance with a dry cloth only.
- Plug in the mains cable and switch on the document shredder.
