Machine Components and Controls
The DeLonghi Magnifica machine features various components and controls for operation. Key parts include:
- Control Panel (B): Features buttons for ECO mode, steam, hot water, coffee selection (single and double cup), and a central dial for coffee strength adjustment (MIN to MAX). Indicator lights signal machine status.
- Water Tank: Located at the rear of the machine.
- Drip Tray: Removable tray to collect coffee drips.
- Ground Coffee Funnel: For using pre-ground coffee.
- Bean Container: Located at the top for whole coffee beans.
- Milk Frother/Steam Wand: For frothing milk for cappuccinos.
- Control Dial (A2): Adjusts coffee dispensing volume.
- Buttons (A3, A4, A5, A6, A7): Various functions including power, coffee selection, and steam/hot water.
- Water Outlet (A18): For dispensing hot water or steam.
- Power Button (A8): Turns the machine on and off.
- Water Filter Housing (A13, A16): For installing a water filter.
- Drip Tray Assembly (A15, A17): The main drip tray and its support.
Accessories (C):

Initial Setup and Operation
- Unpacking: Remove all packaging materials.
- Water Tank Preparation: Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh, cold water. If using a water filter, install it according to the instructions (see section below).
- Power Connection: Plug the machine into a suitable power outlet.
- First Use Preparation: Turn on the machine. The machine will perform an initial rinse cycle. Follow the on-screen prompts or indicator lights.
- Filling the Bean Container: Fill the bean container with fresh coffee beans.
- Adjusting Coffee Strength: Use the control dial (MIN to MAX) to set the desired coffee strength.
- Adjusting Coffee Volume: Program the desired coffee volume by pressing and holding the coffee selection button until the desired amount is dispensed, then release.
- Making Espresso: Place a cup under the coffee spout. Press the button for a single or double espresso.
- Making Cappuccino:
- Attach the cappuccino nozzle to the steam wand.
- Place a container with cold milk under the nozzle.
- Turn the steam knob to the "steam" position.
- Immerse the nozzle in the milk and move the container up and down to froth the milk.
- Once frothed, turn the steam knob to the "off" position.
- Pour the frothed milk into the espresso.
- Dispensing Hot Water: Turn the control dial to the hot water symbol and place a cup under the water outlet.
Maintenance and Cleaning
- Drip Tray and Grounds Container: Empty and rinse daily.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth.
- Water Tank: Wash weekly with mild detergent.
- Descaling: Descale the machine regularly using the DeLonghi descaler solution (C1) or a suitable alternative, following the specific descaling program instructions in the manual. This is crucial for maintaining performance and longevity.
- Water Filter Replacement: Replace the water filter as recommended (typically every 2 months or when indicated by the machine) to prevent scale buildup and improve coffee taste. Follow the filter installation guide.
