Trane Series R Helical Rotary Liquid Chillers
Wiring Manual
This document provides typical field connection diagrams and electrical schematics for the RTHD units.
For Installation, Operation and Maintenance information, refer to RTHD-SVX01*-EN.
Note: The drawings in this section are provided for reference only. These diagrams may not reflect the actual wiring of your unit. For specific electrical connection and schematic information, always refer to the wiring diagrams that were shipped with the unit.
Warnings, Cautions and Notices
This manual contains warnings, cautions, and notices at appropriate intervals. Warnings alert to potential hazards that could result in death or personal injury. Cautions alert to hazardous situations that could result in personal injury or property damage. Notices indicate situations that could result in equipment or property-damage-only accidents.
Personal safety and proper operation depend on strict observance of these precautions. Read this manual thoroughly before operating or servicing the unit.
ATTENTION: Warnings, Cautions and Notices appear at appropriate sections throughout this literature. Read these carefully:
- WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
- CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury. It could also be used to alert against unsafe practices.
- NOTICE: Indicates a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage only accidents.
Important Environmental Concerns!
Scientific research indicates that certain man-made chemicals can affect the earth's stratospheric ozone layer. Refrigerants containing Chlorine, Fluorine, and Carbon (CFCs) and those containing Hydrogen, Chlorine, Fluorine, and Carbon (HCFCs) are of particular concern. Trane advocates the responsible handling of all refrigerants, including industry replacements like HCFCs and HFCs.
Responsible Refrigerant Practices!
Trane emphasizes responsible refrigerant practices for environmental, customer, and industry well-being. Technicians handling refrigerants must be certified. The Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) outlines requirements for handling, reclaiming, recovering, and recycling refrigerants and related equipment. Additional state or municipal requirements may also apply.
Safety Warnings
- WARNING: Proper Field Wiring and Grounding Required! All field wiring must be performed by qualified personnel. Improper installation and grounding pose FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazards. Follow NEC and local electrical codes. Failure to comply can result in death or serious injury.
- WARNING: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required! Installation and servicing may expose personnel to electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards. Technicians must wear appropriate PPE as recommended in MSDS sheets and OSHA guidelines. For hazardous chemicals, consult MSDS and OSHA for exposure limits and handling. For arc or flash risks, comply with NFPA 70E or equivalent standards for arc flash protection. Failure to follow these recommendations can result in death or serious injury.
- WARNING: Hazardous Voltage w/Capacitors! Disconnect all electric power, including remote disconnects, and discharge all motor start/run capacitors before servicing. Use proper lockout/tagout procedures. For variable frequency drives or other energy storing components, consult manufacturer literature for discharge waiting periods. Verify capacitor discharge with a voltmeter. Failure to disconnect power and discharge capacitors can result in death or serious injury. Refer to PROD-SVB06A-EN for capacitor discharge information.
- NOTICE: Use Copper Conductors Only! Unit terminals are not designed for other conductor types. Using other types may result in equipment damage.
