This document provides essential information for the proper use and maintenance of the Heartway S19F Auto Folding Scooter.
Safety Instruction
General Safety Precautions:
- Always use a seat belt and keep your feet on the scooter at all times.
- Never operate the scooter under the influence of alcohol.
- Never use electronic radio transmitters such as walkie-talkies or cellular phones while operating the scooter.
- Do not ride your scooter in traffic.
- Do not attempt to climb curbs exceeding the limitations specified in the Technical Specification.
- Do not leave your hands and legs off the scooter while driving.
- Ensure there are no obstacles behind you when reversing.
- Avoid sharp turns or sudden stops while riding.
- Do not ride the scooter during snow to prevent accidents on slippery roads.
- Do not allow unsupervised children to play near the equipment while batteries are charging.
Environmental Conditions:
- Environmental conditions can affect safety and performance. Water and extreme temperatures are primary concerns.
- Exposure to water can damage electronic or mechanical components and cause corrosion.
- The controller operates optimally between -4°F (-20°C) and 113°F (45°C). At extreme low temperatures, batteries may freeze. At extreme high temperatures, speeds may reduce due to controller safety features.

The following symbols are used to identify warnings, mandatory actions, and prohibited actions:

Indications:
- Inability to walk or severe walking disability due to paralysis, loss of limbs, extremity defects/deformities, joint issues, or other diseases.
- Indicated when hand-driven wheelchairs are no longer feasible, but electric motor operation is still possible.
Contraindications:
- Unsuitable for people with severe balance problems, reduced/insufficient eyesight, or severe cognitive impairments.
Conformity:
Meets EN 12184:2014 and Class I medical device requirements per Regulation MDR 2017/745 annex VIII.

Adjustment
Folding Out the Scooter:
- Position the scooter with rear wheels and anti-tipper wheels on the ground.
- Switch off the scooter using the key and lift up the backrest.
- Insert the key into the ignition, switch the scooter on. The green button (on the scooter) should illuminate. Press and hold for 3 seconds, then release; the scooter will automatically fold out. Alternatively, press the green button on the remote. In case of emergency, press the red button on the rear of the scooter to stop the folding procedure.
Folding Up the Scooter:
- The user should vacate the scooter.
- Fold down the backrest of the seat.
- Press the red button (on the scooter) for 3 seconds, then release; the scooter will automatically fold up. Alternatively, press the red button on the remote. In case of emergency, press the green button on the rear to stop the folding procedure.
- Switch the scooter off using the ignition and remove the key. Turn the stand-by on/off switch to the off position.
Operation of Control
The power scooter is designed for simple operation. Familiarize yourself with the instructions before use. Operation can be by assistant or occupant.
A Word of Caution:
Be aware of your surroundings when selecting speed. For indoor use, select the slowest speed. For outdoor use, select a comfortable and safe speed.
Button Functions:
- Battery Indicator: A needle meter shows battery charge status, moving from red (low) to green (full). Recharge when the needle enters the red zone.
- High/Low Speed Adjustment: A knob allows pre-selection of speed, adjustable from minimum to maximum.
- Power ON/OFF Light: Illuminates when the key is inserted and turns off when removed.
- Horn Button: Press to sound the horn.
Controller ON/OFF Switch:
Insert the key to power on; remove to power off. Swing the finger lever control forward or backward to control driving direction. Returning the lever to neutral stops the vehicle via electromagnetic brakes.
Speed Control:
Use the adjuster knob to increase (clockwise) or decrease (counter-clockwise) speed. The finger lever control also adjusts speed; deeper press means faster movement.
Control Panel Display:
Provides vehicle information. The battery meter needle indicates charge status. The system powers off if battery voltage drops below 21.0V or if the vehicle is inactive for over 30 minutes.
Battery & Charging Instruction
Use sealed, maintenance-free deep-cycle batteries.

Removing the Battery Box:
- Lift the side cover.
- Lift the battery box (1.7KG) after removing the side cover.
Ensure battery connectors are properly connected after installation.
Charging Instructions
The battery charger converts AC wall outlet voltage to DC voltage. It maintains charge without overcharging.
Notes:
- Batteries cannot be charged if discharged to nearly zero voltage.
- The scooter meets ISO 7176-14:2008 and ISO 7176-21:2003 requirements.
- Only use the supplied battery charger type. Using a different charger can be hazardous.
ON/OFF SWITCH:
Ensure the charger is not connected to the scooter and the key is not in the ignition. Turn the on/off switch to "I" to power the scooter. Two lights in the rear will illuminate. Press the green button to unfold. Turn the side button to "O". Once unfolded, insert the key to drive.
Charger Description: NL07C-25HT is a smart charger for 7-cell Li-ion battery packs.
Electrical Specifications: Input: 100~240VAC, 50/60 Hz. Output: 29.05V± 0.2V 2.5Adc ± 10%.
Charging Mode:
- Constant Current (CC): Charges at 2.5Adc±10% until voltage reaches 29.05V± 0.2V.
- Constant Voltage (CV): Maintains 29.05V± 0.2V until charging ends.
- Pre-charge state: For voltages below 21V±1V, pre-charge starts at 30% of CC current (0.75Adc ± 10%).

Operation Procedures:
- Connect charger to AC power *before* connecting the battery. The "power on" indicator will be ON, and the "Status" indicator GREEN, then connect the battery.
- If a short circuit is detected, the "Status" indicator flashes between RED (16ms) and GREEN (496ms) until reset.
- During charging, "Status" is RED; when full, it turns GREEN.
- If pre-charge stage exceeds 5 hours, charging stops, and "Status" indicator pulses to indicate pre-charge error.
- Users can remove or start charging the battery at any time.
- For problems, check the battery pack and repeat steps. Contact manufacturer if issues persist.
Check before Proceeding:
- Ensure battery pack compatibility with NL07C.
- Do not swap connections of the 3-pin output cable.
- NL07C charger is for lithium battery packs only.
- Keep NL07C away from high power EMI radiating devices.
Safety Instructions
WARNING:
- Do not operate on public streets or roadways; be aware of visibility. Obey pedestrian traffic rules. Proceed with caution.
- Ensure power is OFF when getting on or off the scooter to prevent injury.
- Always check drive wheels are engaged before driving. Do not switch off power while moving forward, as this causes an abrupt stop.
- Read and understand all instructions before use. Contact a healthcare professional or dealer if instructions are unclear.
- Seek guidance from a trained attendant or physician if medical conditions or medications may affect safe operation.
- Do not lift or move the scooter by removable parts (armrests, seats, shrouds) to avoid injury or damage.
- Do not exceed the scooter's limitations described in this manual.
- Do not sit on the scooter while it is in a moving vehicle.
- Keep hands away from wheels to avoid entanglement with loose clothing.
- Consult your physician regarding medications or physical limitations that may affect safe operation.
- Be aware of drive mode (locked/unlocked).
- Do not remove anti-tippers if equipped.
- Avoid contact with tools; do not connect extension cords to the AC/DC converter or charger.
- Do not attempt to lift or move the scooter by any of its removal parts.
- When climbing an incline, drive straight up; do not drive at an angle.
- Do not climb slopes steeper than the scooter's limitation.
- Do not attempt to reverse down steps or obstacles, as this may cause tipping.
- Reduce speed and maintain a stable center of gravity when cornering sharply.
- Operating in rain, snow, salt, mist, or icy conditions can adversely affect the electrical system.
- Never sit on the scooter when it is used with any type of lift or elevation product.
- Surface temperatures in contact with the user should not exceed 105.8°F (41°C). Motor surfaces may exceed this after driving; allow to cool before touching.
- Controller programming must be done by authorized personnel only.
- Drive-wheel needs to be switched to engaged-mode for transport via car or airplane.
- Surface temperatures can increase with external heat sources.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
- Do not modify the power scooter in any unauthorized way. Do not use unapproved accessories.
- Perform safety checks before each use.
- Inspections prior to using your power scooter: Check tire inflation (if pneumatic), electrical connections, harness connections, and brakes.
Weight Limitation
- Refer to the specifications table for weight capacity. Exceeding it voids the warranty.
- Heartway is not responsible for injuries or damage due to failure to observe weight limitations.
- Do not carry passengers; this affects the center of gravity and can lead to tipping.
Tire Inflation
- If equipped with pneumatic tires, check air pressure at least weekly.
- Proper inflation prolongs tire life and ensures smooth operation.
- Using unregulated air sources may over-inflate tires.
Temperature
- The controller operates between -4°F (-20°C) and 113°F (45°C).
- Extreme low temperatures can freeze batteries; extreme high temperatures may reduce speed due to controller safety features.
- The scooter can generally operate between -14°F (-10°C) and 113°F (45°C).
- Controller performance is optimal between 77°F (25°C) and 113°F (45°C).
- Below 5°F (-15°C), batteries can freeze, and the scooter may not work.
- At temperatures above 113°F (45°C), safety functions may reduce maximum speeds.
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
Electronics and communication signals emit electromagnetic waves that can affect scooter performance, potentially causing abnormal movement or erratic control. The scooter may be susceptible to EMI from sources like radio stations, TV stations, amateur radio, two-way radios, and cellular phones. This interference can cause brakes to release, unintended movement, or damage to the control system.
EMI Warnings:
- Do not use personal communication devices (CB radios, cellular phones) while the scooter is on.
- Be aware of nearby transmitters (radio/TV stations) and avoid proximity.
- If unintended movement or brake release occurs, turn off the scooter immediately.
- Adding accessories or modifying the scooter may increase susceptibility to EMI.
- Report all incidents of unintended movement or brake release to the manufacturer, noting any nearby radio wave sources.
TURN OFF YOUR POWERED SCOOTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WHEN EXPERIENCING:
- Unintentional scooter movements.
- Unintended or uncontrollable direction.
- Unexpected brake release.
The FDA requires power scooters to have an immunity level of at least 20 V/m for protection against common EMI sources.
WARNING:
- The scooter may disturb electromagnetic fields from shop alarm systems.
- Driving performance can be influenced by electromagnetic fields.
- The S19F seat is tested for resistance to ignition (EN 1021). Avoid open flames and smoking while seated.
- Stability tests were performed in least stable seat positions.
- Driving on slopes, rough ground, or climbing kerbs may reduce distance.
WARNING: Stopping distance on slopes can be significantly greater than on level ground.
Indication/Intended Purpose:
For moving disabled persons by self-driving. This medical equipment is intended to provide mobility to persons restricted to a seated position, e.g., for patients, especially those with leg disabilities.
Storage and Handling
WARNING:
- Please turn off the power before folding/unfolding.
- Be aware of pinch points when folding/unfolding.
- One person is needed to lift the scooter. Assistance may be required if the user or caregiver cannot lift it alone.
- Never open the battery box. Contact your dealer for questions.
- The scooter must be folded properly before transporting.
Storage:
- Store in a dry place, free from temperature extremes.
- Disconnect batteries when storing. Improper storage can lead to frame rust and electronics damage.
- Batteries damaged by deep discharge, infrequent charging, extreme temperatures, or storage without a full charge may have reduced performance and lifespan.
- Periodically charge batteries during prolonged storage to ensure performance.
- For extended non-use, fully charge batteries before storage and disconnect them.
- Store in a warm, dry environment, avoiding temperature extremes.
- Operating conditions: -20°C/-4°F to +45°C/113°F. Storage conditions: -40°C/-40°F to +65°C/149°F.
- Ensure batteries are fully charged before use after long-term storage.
Free-Wheeling and Brakes
Free-Wheeling:
Motors engage electromagnetic brakes when power is OFF or the vehicle is not in use. A manual feature allows "free-wheeling" for moving the scooter without power. This is done by adjusting the free-wheeling switch. Engaging freewheel mode also functions as a parking brake.
WARNING:
- Never free-wheel on a slope.
- Never free-wheel motors while operating the vehicle.
- Always engage motors before turning power ON.
- Turn off power before folding/unfolding.
If the free-wheel switch is accidentally engaged while driving, an error code will activate, but the scooter will not stop automatically.
Electromagnetic Brakes:
The scooter features automatic magnetic disc safety brakes (Fail-Safe brakes). They engage when the scooter is ON and stationary, or OFF with motor levers engaged. The parking brake is integrated into the electromagnetic brake system.
Thermal Protection:
The controller has a thermal rollback safety system. It monitors controller and motor temperature. If excessive heat is detected, power is cut off to allow components to cool. Normal speed resumes when temperatures normalize, but waiting 5 minutes before restarting is recommended.
Battery Maintenance Instruction
Read charger instructions before use. Charge the battery after each use.
If the charger shows a red light, check for defects or poor cable connection. Keep battery terminals clean.
Caution on Lithium Ion Pack Usage:
- Do not use batteries subjected to strong shock, dropping, or distortion.
- Prevent ESD during handling.
Storage:
- Store batteries in shipping condition (40%-60% SOC or 25V-26V) for long periods.
- Inspect battery packs every 6 months for long-term storage.
- If out of storage condition, charge or discharge to the recommended condition.
- Keep in dry, low humidity, and cool conditions. Avoid heat sources and direct sunlight.
Prohibition Clause:
- Do not throw batteries into fire or heat them.
- Do not disassemble or modify battery packs.
- Do not leave batteries in high temperatures (≥ 45°C/113°F).
- Do not immerse batteries in water or expose to high moisture.
- Do not subject batteries to strong shock or dropping.
- Do not solder directly to the battery body.
- Do not heat or solder battery terminals.
Maintenance & Repair
The S19F requires minimal maintenance for trouble-free operation.
Daily Checks:
- Visually check tire condition.
- Inspect battery condition meter on the controller.
Monthly Checks:
- Visually inspect controller harnesses for fraying or exposed wires.
Semi-Annual Checks:
- Have authorized dealer inspect motor brushes every six months or if performance degrades. Brushes may need replacement.
General Checks:
- Keep the controller clean and protected from water. Never hose down the scooter or place it in direct contact with water.
- Keep wheels free from lint, hair, sand, and carpet fibers.
- Visually inspect tire tread; replace if less than 1mm (1/32").
- Upholstery can be washed with warm water and mild soap. Check seat and back for wear; replace if necessary. Do not store in damp/humid conditions.
- Lubricate moving mechanisms with petroleum jelly or light oil. Avoid excess oil.
- Perform general inspection of nut and bolt tightness.
Cleaning and Disinfection:
- Use a damp cloth and mild, non-abrasive cleanser for plastic and metal parts. Avoid abrasive products.
- If necessary, use an approved disinfectant, ensuring it is safe for the product. Follow all safety instructions.
Troubleshooting & Error Code
The DYNAMIC 50 AMP CONTROLLER monitors operating conditions. If a problem is detected, an error message is indicated by flashing lights on the power ON/OFF light. Count the flashes to identify the error type from the table below:

If the system has an error upon power-up, the status indicator will flash red. The number of flashes indicates the error type.
Note: Consult your local dealer for technical problems. Contact your dealer if you experience:
- Motor noise
- Frayed harnesses
- Cracked or broken connectors
- Uneven tire wear
- Jerky motion
- Pulling to one side
- Bent or broken wheel assemblies
- Failure to power up
- Powers up but does not move
Circuit Diagram
A circuit diagram is provided, illustrating the electrical connections and components of the scooter. It details wiring colors, fuses, switches, motors, and other electronic parts.
BOM List
A Bill of Materials (BOM) list is provided, detailing all parts of the scooter with corresponding numbers referenced in an accompanying diagram. This list includes components such as headlights, controls, frame parts, wheels, seat, controller, charger, and battery.
Warranty Declaration
Quality/ Warranty Declaration:
Products are fit for purpose and of excellent quality. For valid warranty claims, Heartway will, at its discretion, replace, repair, or refund defective items.
Heartway's Warranty:
- Frame: Two-year limited warranty.
- Controllers: One-and-a-half-year limited warranty.
- Electronic Components and Charger: One-year limited warranty.
Warranty Exclusion: The following items are not covered:
- Motor brushes
- Wheel Tires
- Arm Pads
- Seat Cushion
- Fuses / Bulbs
- Tiller Cover
- Rear Shroud
- Front Shroud
- Batteries and Consumable parts
Damage or defects from misuse, abuse, improper operation, or improper storage are not covered. The warranty starts from the date of arrival. The average lifespan of a scooter is 5 years. Heartway provides spare-part support for five years after purchase. Contact local dealers for instructions on disposal and recycling of damaged batteries.
