We are here to help

Before you install

Installation requires electrical knowledge. If you are unsure of any steps, consult an electrician.

Things to consider:

To control the Fan Speed Controller from more than one location, such as in a 3-way or multi-way setup, you will need either a wired DDOOR or DDOSR Companion device, or a wireless DAWDC or DAWSC Anywhere Companion device. See Companion instructions for connection directions.

Identify your wires

WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH, turn off power at the circuit breaker.

Check your wall box:

  1. Remove wallplate and disconnect existing switch.
  2. Restore power. Carefully test wires with voltage tester to find the Line (Hot) wire.
  3. Turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  4. Mark the wires as shown below. Please note Neutral wires are required to operate this device.

Quick tip: Neutral wires are typically white and will be found bundled inside the electrical box.

Diagram Description: The diagram shows a wall electrical box with wires labeled: LINE (from branch circuit), NEUTRAL, GROUND, and TRAVELER (to fan). It illustrates how to identify and mark these wires using a voltage tester before disconnecting the old switch and turning off power at the breaker.

If your wall box looks different, call an electrician.

What you need to make it work:

Wire your Fan Speed Controller

Single pole installation:

  1. Work only one connection at a time.
  2. Connect wires as shown using the included wire connectors.

NOTE: Neutral connection is required. The YELLOW/RED Traveler wire is only used in hard-wired 3-way applications. Remember to put a wire connector on the YELLOW/RED Traveler even if not in use.

Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates wiring connections for a single-pole installation. It shows the branch circuit wires (LINE, NEUTRAL, GROUND) connecting to the corresponding terminals on the Fan Speed Controller. The LOAD wire connects from the controller to the fan. A TRAVELER wire is also shown, with a note that it's for 3-way applications and should be capped if unused.

If your wall box contains a different wiring configuration, contact Leviton's Technical Support team or consult an electrician.

Test and install

  1. Restore power. Status LED should flash GREEN.
  2. After powering on the Fan Speed Controller to confirm it is receiving power, turn the power back off again at the breaker prior to completing the installation.

Diagram Description: The diagram shows the final installation steps. It depicts: 1. Restoring power and observing the GREEN flashing Status LED. 2. Turning power off at the circuit breaker. 3. Gently pushing wires into the wall box. 4. Screwing the Fan Speed Controller to the box. 5. Snapping on the Decora® wallplate and restoring power.

Congratulations! Your Decora Smart Fan Speed Controller is ready to control your fan speed level.
