Installation and User Manual
General Information
The Simon SM34 is an electric vehicle charger designed for safe and efficient charging. It supports Mode 3 charging via a Type 2 connector.
The charger is available in various configurations and can be enhanced with optional accessories such as card readers, Bluetooth modules, and dynamic load managers.
Safety Warnings
- Installation and maintenance must be performed by qualified personnel only.
- Comply with all local and national safety regulations.
- Ensure the equipment is properly earthed.
- Disconnect power before any maintenance or installation work.
- Do not use the charger if it or its cables are damaged.
- Use only original Simon accessories and replacement parts.
- Do not use the charger for EV charging modes not covered by IEC 61851.
- Simon S.A.U. is not responsible for damages resulting from improper use or unauthorized modifications.
- Avoid installing in areas with risk of falling objects, water ingress, or unstable ground.
Electrical Protections
The SM34 incorporates electrical protections such as:
- C-curve miniature circuit breaker for overload and short-circuit protection.
- Residual current device (Class A, 30 mA) for protection against direct and indirect contact.
- Surge protection devices for temporary and transient overvoltages.
- Automatic meter reset device for specific schemes.

Power and Energy Measurement
The unit is equipped with an intensity transformer for consumption data. Some models include an MID-certified energy meter for accurate consumption tracking and billing.
Power Line Sizing
Proper power line sizing is crucial and must be performed by a qualified technician, considering cable length, maximum output current, ambient temperature, and local regulations.
Installation
Opening the Unit
Follow the instructions to open the charger unit.
Placing the Unit
Recommended installation height is 1450 mm (or 1150 mm for reduced mobility access). Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the unit's weight and operational forces.
Power Connection
Connect the charger to a 230V (single-phase) or 400V (three-phase) power supply, ensuring correct connection of Live (L), Neutral (N), and Earth (PE) terminals. Verify earth connection integrity.
Maximum Output Power Adjustment
The maximum output current can be adjusted using the selector switch on the unit. Refer to the provided table for current limits corresponding to each position.
Switch Configuration
The DIP switches on the unit allow configuration of various functions, including:
- Home load balancing
- Bluetooth communication
- Photovoltaic power balancing
- Electron Manager communication
Refer to the manual for detailed explanations of each switch's function and required accessories.
Closing the Unit
Follow the instructions to securely close the charger unit after installation or configuration.
Operation
The SM34 Residential series charger indicates its status through a set of LEDs on the front panel:
- Orange: Unit locked.
- Purple: Insufficient power to start charging (units with manager).
- Green: Unit available.
- Blue: Vehicle charging.
- Blinking Blue: Charging complete or not started due to lack of consumption.
- Blinking Blue/Green: Waiting for cable insertion or removal.
- Yellow: Reserved outlet.
- Red: Recharging point error, not usable.
- White: Unit stopped based on schedule.
Charging Process
Follow these steps to charge a vehicle:
- Activate the charger if it is orange (locked) using the APP or an RFID card. LEDs will turn green.
- Connect the charging cable to the charger and the vehicle.
- Check that the LEDs turn solid blue, indicating charging has started.
- LEDs will blink blue when the vehicle is fully charged.
- Hold the RFID card near the antenna symbol to finish charging.
- Disconnect the vehicle.
Available Accessories
The SM34 charger is compatible with several accessories to enhance its functionality:
- Card Reader: For activating the charging station with RFID cards.
- Bluetooth Communications Module: For wireless configuration and control via the Simon Plug&Drive app.
- Home Dynamic Load Manager: Balances power consumption, prioritizing other household loads.
- Photovoltaic Dynamic Load Manager: Optimizes charging power based on solar energy generation.
- Vertical Mounting Column: For installations where wall mounting is not possible.
