Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the Vivitar DVR 949HD Digital Video Camera. This manual provides comprehensive instructions to help you capture quality digital photos and videos. Vivitar aims to make capturing special moments as easy as possible.
Note: An SD Memory card (up to 32GB) is required for normal operation. SD Memory cards are sold separately. It is important to use a Class 4 SDHC Memory card or higher.

Initial Camera Setup
Upon first use, after opening the LCD Touch Screen and powering on the camera, you will be guided through the Initial Camera Setup.
Installing the Batteries
Ensure batteries are inserted correctly according to the polarity indicated inside the battery compartment. The camera uses 4 x AAA (1.5V) batteries. Alkaline batteries are recommended. Batteries are not included.
Important Notes:
- Remove batteries when the camera is not in use for extended periods.
- Do not mix alkaline and non-alkaline batteries.
- Some features may not function with low battery power.
- A low battery icon will appear on the LCD, and the camera will automatically power off when the battery level is critically low.
Installing the SD Memory Card
Insert a Class 4 (or higher) SDHC Memory card (up to 32GB) into the designated slot. The SD card is not included.
To properly insert the SD Card:
- Push the SD card into the slot following the direction indicated by the SD card icon on the camera.
- Push the SD card until you hear a slight clicking sound, confirming correct insertion.
Note: Ensure the SD card is not locked, as this will prevent saving captured photos and videos.
Powering ON the Camera
Flip open the LCD display panel and press the Power button to turn on the camera. The camera will start in Video Capture Mode.
Setting the Camera Language
You will be prompted to select your preferred language for the camera interface. Scroll through the options and tap 'SAVE & EXIT' to confirm.
Setting the Date and Time
Follow the on-screen prompts to set the correct date and time for your camera.
Setting the ViviLink Default Option
Configure your default ViviLink social network destination for uploading photos and videos. Follow the prompts to select your preferred social network for both photos and videos.
Congratulations! Your Vivitar DVR 949HD is now ready for use.
Main Camera Modes
Switch between camera modes by pressing the HOME button. Available modes include:
- Video Capture Mode: The default mode for recording videos. Aim and press the Shutter button to start/stop recording.
- Photo Capture Mode: Use this mode to capture still images. Aim and press the Shutter button to take a photo.
- Playback Mode (Photos & Videos): View, manage, edit, or delete your captured photos and videos from the SD memory card.

Powering ON/OFF Your Digital Video Camera
Powering the camera ON
Flip open the LCD display panel and press the Power button. The camera will activate in Video Capture Mode.
Powering the camera OFF
Press the Power button again while the camera is on to turn it off. Alternatively, navigate to the Power Off option via the HOME button and confirm.
Note: The camera features an Auto Power Off function that can be configured in the Settings/Auto Off menu.
