This product complies with the Council of the European Communities directives on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC Council Directive 2004/108/EC) and electrical equipment for use within specified voltage limits (Low-voltage Directive 2006/95/EC). Conformity is proven by tests performed by Siemens AG according to generic standards EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4 (for EMC) and EN 60255-6 (for low-voltage). The device is designed for industrial environments and conforms to IEC 60255 and VDE 0435 standards.
Hints and Warnings
DANGER: Indicates that death, severe personal injury, or substantial property damage will result if proper precautions are not taken.
Warning: Indicates that death, severe personal injury, or substantial property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken.
Caution: Indicates that minor personal injury or property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken, especially concerning damage to the device itself and consequential damage.
Note: Highlights essential information about the device or the booklet.
Warning! Hazardous voltages are present during operation. Non-observance of safety rules can result in severe personal injury or property damage. Only qualified personnel, familiar with all warnings, safety notices, and applicable regulations, should work on this equipment. Proper transport, storage, handling, installation, operation, and maintenance by qualified personnel are crucial for successful and safe operation. Observe general erection and safety regulations (e.g., IEC, EN, DIN, VDE) regarding hoisting gear to prevent death, personal injury, or substantial property damage.
QUALIFIED PERSONNEL
A qualified person is familiar with the installation, construction, and operation of the equipment and its hazards. They must be trained and authorized to energize/de-energize circuits, clear, ground, and tag equipment, and trained in the proper use of protective equipment and rendering first aid.
Unpacking and Re-packing
The equipment is packed according to IEC 60255-21 for impact resistance. Remove packaging carefully without force or inappropriate tools. Visually inspect for damage. Observe all enclosed notes. Before initial energization or after storage, the relay should be in the operating area for at least two hours for temperature equalization and to avoid humidity influences and condensation. The transport packing can be re-used. Individual relay storage packing is not suitable for transport. Alternative packing must provide the same protection against mechanical shock and vibration as specified in IEC 60255-21-1 class 2 and IEC 60255-21-2 class 1.
Storage
Store the device in dry and clean rooms. The limit temperature range for storage is -25°C to +55°C (-13°F to 131°F). Relative humidity must be within limits to prevent condensation or ice formation.
Dimensions
Housing for panel flush mounting or cubicle installation (Size 1/2)
The unit has dimensions suitable for panel flush mounting or cubicle installation. The front panel has two connection modules, labeled A and B. The rear view shows the connection points. The panel cut-out dimensions are provided, requiring mounting screws of Ø5 or M4, and Ø6 for securing the unit.
Textual description of Figure 1: Diagram showing the dimensions for panel flush mounting or cubicle installation. It includes the overall width, height, and depth, as well as the panel cut-out dimensions and mounting hole specifications.
Note: 2 set-squares (order-no. C73165-A63-C200-3) are required for installation in cubicles.
Housing for surface mounting (Size 1/2)
The unit is also available for surface mounting. The side view with screwed terminals is shown. The fixing points of the mounting plate are detailed.
Textual description of Figure 2: Diagram illustrating the dimensions for surface mounting. It shows the unit's dimensions, side view with terminals, and the mounting plate fixing points.
Installation Notes
Remove the 4 corner covers on the front plate to access the mounting holes. Push the device into the panel cut-out (flush mounting) or between mounting brackets (cubicle mounting) and secure with the 4 fixing screws. Replace the covers. Ensure a solid, low-ohmic, and low-inductive operational and protection earth connection using at least one M4 screw to the earthing surface at the rear or side wall. The ground wire cross-section must be at least 2.5 mm² and equal to or greater than any other conductor connected to the device.
Caution! For sufficient heat dissipation, maintain a clearance of at least 100 mm (4 in) above and 50 mm (2 in) below the device from adjacent equipment or sheet metal. For surface-mounted models, use mounting brackets to attach the device to the panel or cabinet back for terminal access.
Connection Hints
The device features screw-type terminals. Observe the following:
Caution! Unused terminals are varnished and must not be used for external connections.
Screw-type terminals on connection modules
Terminal screws are slot screws requiring a 6x1 mm screwdriver. The 7XR6004 may have 18-pole and 12-pole connection modules for voltages. Figure 3 shows the designation scheme, and Figure 4 shows accessories like covering caps for electrical shock protection.
Textual description of Figure 3: Illustrates the connection modules for screw-type terminals, showing the layout and numbering of terminals for 18-pole and 12-pole voltage connectors.
Textual description of Figure 4: Depicts accessories for screw-type terminals, specifically covering caps for 18-pole and 12-pole voltage connectors, and an 8-pole current connector.
Ring-type or fork-type insulated cable lugs are recommended. The bare zone must have adequate insulation, e.g., using shrink tubes. Cable lugs must meet the following specifications:
- Bolt diameter: 4 mm
- Max. major diameter: 10 mm
- Cross-section: 1.0 mm² to 2.6 mm² (AWG 16 to AWG 14)
- Use copper conductors only.
Recommended cable lugs: Tyco Electronics AMP PIDG series (e.g., ring-type PIDG PN 320565-0, fork-type PIDG PN 321233-0).
Direct connection with solid bare wire or flexible wire with end sleeves is possible for cross-sections from 0.5 mm² to 2.6 mm² (AWG 20 to AWG 14). Ensure the wire end is drawn into the contact cavity when tightening the screw. Use copper conductors only. Wire strip length for solid bare wire: 9 mm to 10 mm (0.354 in to 0.394 in). Max. torque: 1.8 Nm or 16 in-lb.
