Yamaha MG Series Mixing Consoles: Safety Precautions and Operating Instructions
Important Safety Precautions
Always follow the basic precautions listed below to avoid injury to yourself or others, and to prevent damage to the device or other property.
Power Supply / AC Adaptor
- Never place the power cord near heat sources such as radiators or heaters. Do not excessively bend or damage the cord. Do not place heavy objects on it or in a position where someone could walk on it, trip over it, or roll something over it.
- Only use the voltage specified for the device. The required voltage is printed on the device's nameplate.
- Use only the specified adaptor (PA-10 or equivalent recommended by Yamaha). Using the wrong adaptor can result in damage to the device, including overheating.
- Periodically check the electric plug and remove any dust or dirt that may have accumulated on it.
- When setting up the product, ensure that the AC outlet you are using is easily accessible. If any malfunction or trouble occurs, turn off the power switch immediately and disconnect the plug from the outlet. Even when the power switch is turned off, the product will not be disconnected from the power source as long as the power cord is not unplugged from the AC wall outlet.
Do Not Open
This device contains no user-serviceable parts. Never attempt to disassemble or modify the internal parts in any way. If it appears to be malfunctioning, discontinue use immediately and have it inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.
Water Warning
- Never expose the device to rain or use it near water, in damp or wet conditions. Do not place any containers (such as vases or bottles) on it that might spill into any openings. If any liquid seeps into the device, turn off the power immediately, unplug the power cord from the outlet, and have the device inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.
- Never insert or remove an electric plug with wet hands.
Fire Warning
- Never place burning items, such as candles, on the unit. A burning item may fall over and cause a fire.
If You Notice Any Abnormality
Immediately turn off the power, disconnect the electric plug from the outlet, and have the device inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel if one of the following problems occurs:
- The power plug or cord becomes damaged or frayed.
- It emits unusual smoke or smells.
- An object has been dropped into the device.
- There is a sudden loss of sound during the device's use.
If this AC power adaptor or this device should be damaged, turn off the power immediately, disconnect the electric plug from the outlet, and have the device inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.
CAUTION
Always follow the basic precautions listed below to avoid the possibility of physical injury to yourself or others, and to avoid damage to the device or other property.
Power Supply / AC Adaptor
- Never wrap or cover the AC power adaptor with a blanket or cloth.
- Always hold the plug itself, not the cord, when removing the plug from an outlet or the device. Pulling the cord can damage it.
- Remove the electric plug from the outlet when the device is not going to be used for an extended period of time, or during electrical storms.
Location
- Do not place the device in an unstable position where it might accidentally fall over.
- Do not place the device in a location where it may come into contact with salt air or corrosive gases, as doing so may result in malfunction.
- Before moving the device, remove all connected cables.
Connections
- Before connecting the device to other devices, turn off the power for all connections. Before turning the power on or off for all devices, set all volume levels to minimum.
Maintenance
- Remove the power plug from the AC outlet when cleaning the device.
Handling Caution
- Avoid dropping or inserting foreign objects (e.g., plastic, paper, metal) into any openings or gaps on the device. If this happens, turn off the power immediately, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet, and have the device inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.
- Do not place your weight on the device or place heavy objects on it, and avoid using excessive force on the connectors or switches.
- Do not use headphones or speakers at a high volume level for a long period of time, as this can cause permanent hearing loss. If you experience any hearing loss or ringing in the ears, consult a physician.
- When the panel heats up, do not touch it until the panel temperature goes down. Touching the panel with its high temperature may cause burns.
Yamaha cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use or modifications to the device, or for data that is destroyed or lost.
NOTICE
Follow the notices below to avoid the possibility of damage to the product, damage to data, damage to other property, or malfunction of the device.
Maintenance and Handling
- Do not use the device in the vicinity of a TV, radio, stereo equipment, or mobile phone, or other electric devices, otherwise, the device may generate noise.
- Do not expose the device to excessive dust or vibration, or extreme cold or heat (such as in direct sunlight, near a heater, or in a car during the day), in order to prevent unstable operation, panel discoloration, or damage to internal components.
- Do not place rubber or plastic objects on the device, as this may discolor the panel.
- When cleaning the device, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use chemical cleaning fluids, solvents, or thinners, or cloths impregnated with chemical cleaning agents.
- Condensation may occur in the device due to drastic, rapid changes in ambient temperature—for example, when the device is moved from one location to another. If there is any reason to believe that condensation may have occurred, leave the device for several hours without turning the power on until the condensation has completely dried out.
- To avoid generating unwanted noise, ensure there is adequate distance (more than 50 cm) between the device and the AC power adaptor.
- Avoid setting all level knobs and equalizers to their maximum. Depending on the condition of the connected devices, doing so may cause feedback and may damage the speakers.
- When turning on the AC power in your audio system, always turn on the power amplifier LAST to avoid speaker damage. When turning the power off, the power amplifier should be turned off FIRST for the same reason.
- Always set the [ I / ] switch to the standby [ ] position when the device is not in use.
- Even when the [ I / ] switch is in the standby status, electricity is still flowing to the device at a minimum level. If you are not using the device for a long period of time, make sure to unplug the power cord from the AC wall outlet.
Connectors
- XLR type connectors are wired as follows (IEC 60268 standard): Pin 1: ground, Pin 2: + (hot), Pin 3: - (cold).
Precautions When Using the [2.0 USB] Terminal
- When connecting the computer to the [2.0 USB] terminal, be sure to observe the following points. Failure to do so risks freezing the computer and corrupting or losing the data. If the device or computer freezes, restart the application, or turn the power to the device on and then standby again.
- Use a USB type AB cable of less than 1.5 meters in length. USB 3.0 cables cannot be used.
- Before connecting the computer to the [2.0 USB] terminal, exit any computer power-saving modes (such as sleep, suspend, or standby).
- Before turning the power on for the device, connect the computer to the [2.0 USB] terminal.
- Before unplugging/plugging the USB cable, quit any open applications on the computer.
- Be sure to set all control knobs to the minimum level when disconnecting or connecting the USB cable.
- While the computer is connected to the device, you should wait for six seconds or more between these operations: (1) setting the device's power to standby, and then on again, or (2) alternately disconnecting/connecting the USB cable.
- Please do not use a USB hub.
