Important Safety Precautions

WARNING

To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock:

  • Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
  • Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.

Keep out of reach of small children to prevent accidental swallowing.

CAUTION

  • Do not insert water or foreign objects into the unit. If this occurs, remove from camera and consult a Sony service center.
  • Do not open the unit. Contact a Sony service center for internal inspection or repair.
  • Avoid placing the unit in locations with high humidity, dust, oil smoke, steam, or direct sunlight, as this may cause malfunction.
  • Do not drop or hit the unit, as this may cause malfunction.

Features

  • Compatible with Sony cameras featuring a Multi Interface Shoe (e.g., Video Cameras, Interchangeable Lens Digital Cameras).
  • Stereo system enables natural sound pick-up, delivering a clear stereo sound image.
  • Selectable pickup patterns: 0° for narrow soundstage or distant sound, and 120° for wide soundstage or nearby sound.

Identifying the Parts

  • [Lock Knob] (): Secures the microphone to the camera's Multi Interface Shoe.
  • [Multi Interface Foot] (): Connects to the camera's Multi Interface Shoe. Do not touch the connector.
  • [Microphone] (): Adjust the directional angle manually (0° or 120°) according to the sound source.
  • [Slide Switch] ():
    • NORM: For natural sound pick-up from low to high frequencies.
    • LOW CUT: Reduces low-frequency noise (wind, vibration, air conditioning).
  • [Microphone Out] (): Connect the supplied cable to this jack and to the camera's external microphone input.
  • [Wind Screen] (): Reduces popping noise from wind or breathing. If it gets wet, dry it in shade.
  • [Connector Protect Cap] (): Protects the connector when the unit is not attached to the camera.

Using the Unit

When attached to the camera, the camera automatically switches from its built-in microphone to this external microphone.

To Attach the Unit:

  1. Remove the [Connector Protect Cap] () from the unit.
  2. Turn off the camera's power. Align the [Multi Interface Foot] () with the camera's Multi Interface Shoe and attach the unit.
  3. Rotate the [Lock Knob] () to the LOCK position to secure it.

To Detach the Unit:

Turn off the camera's power and detach the unit by reversing the attachment procedure.

Microphone Angle Adjustment:

After attaching the unit, adjust the microphone angle manually to your preference.

Connecting to a Camera:

Use the supplied connecting cable. Connect one end to the unit's [Microphone Out] () and the other end to the camera's external microphone input jack.

  • For Video Cameras with Microphone Level Adjustment: The unit acts as a plug-in power microphone, allowing level adjustment via the camera.
  • For Interchangeable Lens Digital Cameras with Auto-lock Accessory Shoe: An optional ADP-MAC shoe adapter may be required. The unit functions as a plug-in power microphone.

Note: Always use the supplied cable for guaranteed performance.
