Installation Instructions
- Disassemble the bumper. This involves:
- Disassembling the rear-light units via 1 screw in the trunk.
- Removing 2x1 screws under the rear-lights.
- Removing 2x1 screws in the wheel casings.
- Removing 3 screws at the bottom of the bumper.
- Pulling the sides outward.
- Place the mounting plates (labeled '1' and 'A') against the outer side of the chassis beams, aligning them with the provided holes. Insert the bolts and washers without tightening them initially.
- Position the towbar (labeled 'B' and 'C') between the mounting plates ('1'). Insert the bolts and tighten everything firmly according to the specified torque values.
- Make an incision in the bottom side of the bumper as indicated in Figure 1. Reassemble the bumper onto the vehicle.
- Assemble the ball assembly together with the socket plate holder (labeled '-p') and the safety shackle (labeled '-s'). Tighten all components firmly, referring to the torque specifications.
Bumper Cut-out Description (Figure 1)
Figure 1 illustrates the required cut-out for the bumper. The hatched or shaded area indicates the section that needs to be removed.
Dimensions: The cut-out has a width of 70mm and a height of 40mm, offset 75mm from the center, with a total width of 118mm.
Label Key:
- 'B' refers to the bumper itself.
- 'O' refers to the lower rim of the bumper.
- 'M' refers to the middle of the bumper.
Important Advice and Recommendations
General Instructions:
- Keep these instructions in the vehicle for future reference.
- Before commencing installation, inspect the towbar for any transport damage and confirm it is the correct model for the vehicle.
- Read the fitting instructions carefully and adhere to all steps precisely.
- Present the towbar under the vehicle to verify correct positioning before drilling or final assembly.
- When drilling holes, ensure no existing wiring, brake lines, or fuel lines are damaged.
- Remove any soundproofing material or bitumen coating from the mounting areas.
- Treat all drilled holes and chassis contact points with an anticorrosive product to prevent rust.
- If the vehicle is equipped with non-standard bumpers (e.g., special editions, sport packages, tuning modifications), consult GDW's technical service department before proceeding with installation.
Guarantee:
- Do not exceed the specified maximum towing weight, 'D' value, or 'S' value for the vehicle.
- The towbar requires inspection after the first 1,000 km of use and at least once annually.
- During inspections, check all bolt connections and retighten as necessary.
- Repair any damage to the paint finish.
- Replace any components that have been damaged due to an accident or collision.
- Ensure the internal parts of detachable towbar systems are kept well-greased.
- If the towbar is damaged by an external load or impact, it must be replaced.
Usage:
- If the towing ball or hitch obstructs the number plate or fog light, it must be removed when the trailer is not attached.
Clearance Specifications
The clearance around the towbar ball must comply with Guideline 94/20/EG, Appendix VII, Diagram 30. This ensures proper operation and safety.
The diagram specifies minimum and maximum angles and distances for various points (e.g., minimum clearances of 32, 55, 65, 75, 140 units; maximum angles of 45° and 30°; maximum radii of R14.5 and R40). These clearances are critical for the vehicle's permissible total weight.
