Electrical Requirement

This appliance is supplied with a moulded three-pin mains plug for safety and convenience. A 5-amp fuse is fitted in this plug. If the fuse needs replacement, ensure the replacement fuse has a 5-amp rating and is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Check for the ASTA or BSI mark on the fuse body.

If the plug has a removable fuse cover, ensure it is refitted after replacing the fuse. If the fuse cover is lost, the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained from a local Panasonic dealer.

If the fitted plug is unsuitable for your home socket, remove the fuse, cut off the plug, and dispose of it safely. Inserting a cut-off plug into a 13-amp socket poses a severe electrical shock risk.

How to Replace the Fuse

The fuse location differs by AC mains plug type (Figures A and B). Confirm your plug type and follow the instructions. Illustrations may differ from the actual plug. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver, replace the fuse, and close or attach the fuse cover.

(Visual description: Figure A and Figure B illustrate different AC mains plug types and the location of the fuse cover.)

Using Functions:

Continue to bake / Reheat / Stir (Menus 16-18)

If baking is insufficient (e.g., mixture sticks to skewer), "Continue to bake" can be performed up to 2 times after baking finishes. This should be done within 15 minutes of baking completion and before the internal temperature drops significantly.

To use "Continue to bake": Select the corresponding menu number, set the baking time, and press the Start button. Pressing and holding the Stop button cancels "Continue to bake".

Alternatively, if the Stop button is not pressed after the buzzer sounds, you can press the left/right arrows of the Timer button to set baking time and then press Start.

Crust Colour

The crust colour can be set to Medium, Dark, or Light. After selecting a menu program, press the Crust button to choose the desired colour. Programs that support crust colour selection are marked with an icon.

More sugar generally results in a darker crust; less sugar results in a lighter crust.

Timer (Delay Timer)

The Timer program allows bread to finish baking at a set time. For example, to have soft bread ready at 6:30 am tomorrow when it is currently 9:00 pm:

  1. Select the desired menu program.
  2. Use the Timer buttons (< or >) to adjust the time to the desired baking finishing time. The displayed time shows the difference between the finishing time and the present time.
  3. Press the Start button to set the delay timer.
  4. For programs that support it, set the Crust program after setting the Timer program.

The delay timer can be set up to 13 hours for available menus.

Raisin Addition (Menu 3)

Menu 3 includes a Raisin program. When ingredients like raisins need to be added manually, the appliance will beep, and the manual addition indicator will flash on the LCD. You must add the ingredients, close the lid, and press the Start button again within 3 minutes.

If ingredients are not added or the Start button is not pressed within 3 minutes, the buzzer will sound, and the appliance will start automatically.

  • Addition time varies with room temperature.
  • More ingredients can result in less puffy bread.
  • Follow recipe proportions carefully to avoid issues like ingredients popping out, burning, bad smells, or smoke.
  • Hard ingredients may damage the bread pan's coating; use caution. Accidental intake of peeled coating does not affect health.

Making Basic Bread

The following icons indicate recipe options and operations:

  • Icon for adding ingredients: Raisins, nuts, and other ingredients can be added manually. The time indicated in the recipe section for adding extra ingredients (like raisins) is the addition time for non-timer programs.
  • Icon for crust colour: Crust colour can be set to "Medium", "Dark", or "Light".
  • Icon for finishing time: The bread baking finishing time can be set.
  • Icon for manual operation: Perform manual operations (like adding extra ingredients or scraping flour from the bread pan sidewall) when the beep sounds.

Recipe: Basic Bread

IngredientAmount
Dry yeast1 tsp
Strong white bread flour250 g
Butter15 g
Sugar1 tbsp
Salt1 tsp
Water170 mL

Preparation:

  1. Place the appliance on a stable, dry, clean, flat, heat-resistant worktop.
  2. Open the lid. Turn the bread pan anticlockwise to remove it. Install the kneading blade onto the mounting shaft. Gently touch the kneading blade; its front end should move about 3 cm side-to-side. Ensure no dough is around the mounting shaft.
  3. Add ingredients into the bread pan in the order listed in the recipe: Yeast, Flour, Other ingredients, Liquids.
  4. Place the bread pan clockwise into the appliance, close the lid, and insert the mains plug.
  5. When adding dry yeast, keep it away from the kneading blade and mounting shaft. If yeast gets into the shaft, the bread may not rise well.
  6. Cover the yeast with flour, followed by the rest of the dry ingredients, and finally the liquid.

Setting:

  1. Use the left and right arrows of the Menu button to switch between menus. For Menu 1 (Basic), you can set shortcut programs.
  2. Press the Crust button to set the crust colour (default is standard).
  3. Press the Timer button to set the bread baking finishing time (default is immediate). Refer to pages EN4-EN5 for details on shortcut programs.
  4. Press the Start button. The screen will display the approximate finishing time.
  5. If the Raisin program (Menu 3) is selected, open the lid when the buzzer beeps, manually add ingredients, close the lid, and press Start again within 3 minutes. If not, the appliance will start automatically after the buzzer.

Taking Out:

  1. The machine will beep when the program finishes. Press the Stop button and unplug the machine.
  2. For best results, remove the bread immediately. Carefully remove the hot bread pan using dry oven gloves.
  3. Tip the bread out of the pan and let it cool on a wire rack.
  4. Ensure the kneading blade is not embedded in the bread before slicing.
  5. Do not use sharp implements to remove the bread, as this can damage the bread pan.

Troubleshooting

If an anomaly occurs, check the following first. If the problem persists, contact a Panasonic Service Centre.

ProblemCause and Action
Error Code U53Motor overload. Weigh materials correctly. Crush large particles of ingredients (e.g., walnuts) before adding (Press Start button).
Error Code U50Machine is hot (above 40°C) due to continuous running. Open the lid until the inside cools thoroughly (approx. 1 hour after baking).
Error Code H01 ~ H02Malfunction. Contact Panasonic Service Centre for repair.
Buttons do not work.Check if the mains plug is loose or has fallen out. Insert the mains plug firmly.
Appliance does not run (knead dough) after pressing Start. The delay timer program may be set to "Dough standing", delaying the start. No action needed if this is the case.
The blade rattles. There might be a gap between the blade and the main shaft (front end moves about 3 cm). No action needed if this is the case.
Appliance sounds during use or reservation.Sounds like squeaks, patters (dough kneading) or hums (motor running) are normal during "Dough kneading" or "Venting" stages.
Appliance stops halfway (blade does not rotate).Too many ingredients or the blade is stuck in hard ingredients, causing motor overload. The protection device stops the appliance. Disconnect power immediately, remove ingredients, rest for over 30 minutes, then restart with correct ingredient amounts. If the problem persists, contact Panasonic Service Centre.
Baking cannot proceed, still powdery.Check if the blade was forgotten. Install the blade (P. EN4). Check if the blade mounting shaft in the bread pan is too tight. If the shaft does not rotate with the blade installed, contact Panasonic Service Centre for bearing replacement.
Dough leakage at the bottom of the bread pan.A small amount of dough may discharge from the outlet as part of the rotation mechanism. This is not abnormal, provided the blade mounting shaft can rotate. If the shaft does not rotate, contact Panasonic Service Centre for bearing replacement.
Bottom of the bread pan turns dark. This may be due to stirring friction. Wipe the darkening part with a wet kitchen paper.
Abnormal shape of bread (Insufficient or excessive fermentation).Cause: Too much dry yeast/water or too much flour. Room temperature too high.
Action: Check recipe and measure ingredients accurately using provided tools. Ensure no excess water is in other ingredients. Weigh flour carefully. If room temperature is above 25°C, use water at 5°C and reduce water amount by 10g/mL.
Appliance smokes or smells when starting. This is normal and should gradually disappear as the appliance runs. It does not affect use. It is also normal for the motor not to run immediately upon starting.

Cleaning & Care

Before cleaning, unplug the unit and allow it to cool.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Use a soft damp cloth.
  • Do not wash any part of the bread maker in the dishwasher.
  • Keep the bread maker clean and dry.

Bread Pan & Kneading Blade:

  • Twist the bread pan anticlockwise to remove.
  • Remove the kneading blade and wash in warm soapy water.
  • Ensure the area around the shaft and inside the kneading blade are cleaned thoroughly, with no dough residue left around the kneading shaft.
  • If the kneading blade is difficult to remove, place a small amount of warm water into the pan and soak for 5-10 minutes. Do not submerge the pan in water.

Main Unit:

  • Wipe with a soft damp cloth.
  • Wipe gently to avoid damaging the temperature sensor.
