The 2020 Explorer is the best-selling SUV in the U.S. for the last 29 years. This reimagined model offers a host of new and modern features, including:

The Power of Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)

The RWD architecture enhances the Explorer's design with a shorter front overhang and an athletic appearance. It also contributes to a better towing experience (up to 5,600 lbs), improved ride and handling due to better weight distribution, and a more satisfying performance delivery without FWD torque-steer issues.

It features a class-exclusive 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift® capability.

Mode for Every Mood

The Explorer offers personalization for various adventures with features like the Cargo Area Management System, multiple charging options (USB-A and USB-C), and a choice of EcoBoost® engines or hybrid powertrain. Drivetrain options include rear-wheel-drive or Intelligent 4WD. Seating configurations include E-Z Entry second-row captain's chairs and available 40/20/40 split-fold-flat second-row seating.

The No-Compromises Hybrid SUV

The Explorer Limited Hybrid combines performance, capability, and efficiency with a 3.3L hybrid powertrain delivering 318 system horsepower. It projects an EPA-estimated range of at least 500 miles per tank. Key features include a 10-speed modular hybrid transmission, 20" aluminum wheels, active noise control, Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+, and leather-trimmed seating. The hybrid battery is integrated into the chassis for optimal space utilization.

It offers up to 5,000 lbs. towing capacity when properly equipped.

2020 Explorer ST

The Explorer ST, from the Ford Performance team, offers an aggressive, black-accented appearance, a specially tuned 3.0L EcoBoost engine, and sport-tuned suspension for a performance-infused driving experience. Key ST-specific features include:

• 3.0L EcoBoost V6 with Auto Start-Stop Technology (projected 400 hp / 415 lb.-ft. torque).
• 20" machined aluminum wheels or 21" black-painted aluminum wheels.
• Black "EXPLORER" hood badging.
• Sport-style, flat-bottom steering wheel with red ST logo and paddle shifters.

2020 Explorer Model Lineup

The 2020 Explorer is available in four distinct models: XLT, Limited, Platinum, and ST. A hybrid powertrain is available on the Limited model.

XLT Standard Equipment (200A): Includes a comprehensive list of performance, safety, driver-assist, interior, and exterior features, such as a 2.3L EcoBoost® 1-4 engine, AdvanceTrac® with RSC®, Ford Co-Pilot360™, and 18" Sparkle Silver-painted aluminum wheels.

Limited Standard Equipment (300A) PLUS: Adds features like leather-trimmed seating, a 10-way power driver's seat with memory, 360-Degree Camera, Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+, and 20" polished aluminum wheels. The Limited Hybrid Group 310A includes the hybrid powertrain and associated features.

Platinum Standard Equipment (600A) PLUS: Enhances the Limited with features such as a 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine, Intelligent 4WD System, premium interior trim (Ash Swirl wood), illuminated front door-sill scuff plates, and 20" bright machined-face aluminum wheels.
