Introduction
This manual provides step-by-step instructions for the main functions of the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo coffee machine. Please read these instructions carefully to avoid risks and damage to the appliance. The LEDs and indicator lights on the control panel will assist you in interacting with the machine.
Indicator Light Status:
- Off: No function active.
- On steadily: Function available.
- Flashing: Function underway.
- Flashing quickly: User action required.
Setting Up the Appliance
Follow the instructions provided in the separate Quick Guide for setting up the appliance. For the first use, it is recommended to prepare 4-5 cappuccinos to ensure optimal results. The initial noise may be higher as the water circuit fills.
Note: Traces of coffee in the mill are from factory testing and indicate the care taken in product development.
It is recommended to install the water filter immediately. Replace the filter every two months or if the appliance has not been used for 3 weeks, even if no message appears.
Customize water hardness as soon as possible.
Turning the Machine On and Off
Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an automatic preheat and rinse cycle that cannot be interrupted. The machine is ready for use only after this cycle is completed. Similarly, when turned off after making coffee, it performs an automatic rinse cycle.
Caution: Hot water may flow from the coffee spouts during rinsing. Avoid contact with splashes.
Press the power button to turn the appliance on or off. If the appliance will not be used for an extended period, unplug it from the mains socket.
Making Coffee Beverages
Using Coffee Beans
- Do not use green, caramelised, or candied coffee beans as they can damage the coffee mill.
- If 'Energy Saving' mode is active, there might be a slight delay before the first coffee is delivered.
Using Pre-ground Coffee
- Never add pre-ground coffee when the machine is off, as it can spread inside and cause damage.
- Do not use more than one level measure of pre-ground coffee to avoid soiling the machine or blocking the funnel.
- For 'Long' coffee, add a second level measure of pre-ground coffee halfway through preparation.
- 'Doppio+' coffee cannot be made with pre-ground coffee.
Varying the Coffee Aroma
Press the button corresponding to the desired aroma: Mild, Medium, or Strong. The machine will remember the last selected aroma for subsequent use. In case of power failure, it reverts to the medium setting.
Rinsing
To clean and heat the internal circuit, press and hold the 'x2' button for approximately 5 seconds. The delivery will stop automatically.
Tips for a Hotter Coffee
- Perform a rinse cycle.
- Warm the cups using the hot water function.
- Increase the coffee temperature in the settings menu.
Adjusting the Coffee Mill
The coffee mill is pre-set. To adjust, turn the dial while the mill is operating. If coffee flows too slowly or not at all, turn the dial one click towards '7'. If you want a fuller-bodied coffee, turn one click towards '1'. Adjustments are noticeable after at least two coffees have been made.
Customising the Quantity in the Cup
Press and hold the beverage button to enter programming mode. The indicator light will flash quickly. Once the desired quantity is reached, press the button again to stop delivery and memorize the quantity. To cancel, press another beverage button.
For 'My Latte' beverages, only the coffee quantity can be programmed; the milk quantity is used as per the recipe.
Making Milk-Based Beverages (LatteCrema System)
Preparing the Milk Container
To open the milk container lid, turn it clockwise until the line aligns with the symbol, then lift the lid.
Which Milk to Use?
For richer froth, use skimmed or partially skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (approx. 5°C). Clean the Lattecrema System after each use to avoid poor froth or large bubbles. Froth quality can vary based on milk type, brand, and nutritional content.
How Much Milk to Add?
A graduated scale on the milk container indicates the ideal quantity. For 'My Latte', the machine detects and uses all the milk poured into the container, allowing you to dispense the exact amount you desire.
Note: The volume of milk increases by about 2/3 after delivery. Ensure your glass or cup is large enough.
To close the milk container lid, align the line on the lid with the symbol, then turn towards the symbol until it clicks.
Selecting Coffee Aroma or Pre-ground Coffee
Before selecting a milk beverage, you can customize the coffee aroma as described in section '4.3 Varying the coffee aroma' or select pre-ground coffee.
At the End of Preparation
Clean the milk container after preparing the last milk beverage. If milk remains, store the container in the refrigerator. For optimal results, clean the Lattecrema System thoroughly as described in section '12. Cleaning the Milk Container'.
Customising the Hot Water Quantity
Press and hold the 'Hot water' button to enter programming mode. The indicator light will flash quickly. Once the desired quantity is reached, press the button again to stop delivery and memorize the quantity. To cancel, press another beverage button.
Default Hot Water Quantity: 250 ml (Programmable: 20-420 ml)
Measuring Water Hardness
The descaling alarm is triggered based on water hardness. The machine is factory set to 'Level 4'. You can adjust this setting for less frequent descaling.
- Take the test strip and immerse it in water for one second.
- Shake the strip. After a minute, 1-4 red squares will appear, indicating the hardness level (1: Low, 2: Medium, 3: Medium/High, 4: High).
Refer to section '10. Settings menu' to set the machine according to water hardness.
Water Softener Filter
To maintain performance, use and regularly replace the De'Longhi water softener filter. Purchase filters at www.delonghi.com.
Replacing the Filter
Replace the filter after two months of use or if the appliance has not been used for 3 weeks, even if no message appears.
