De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Coffee Machine

Instruction Manual for ECAM29X.6Y - 29X.8Y

Introduction

This manual provides step-by-step instructions for the main functions of the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo coffee machine. Please read these instructions carefully to avoid risks and damage to the appliance. The LEDs and indicator lights on the control panel will assist you in interacting with the machine.

Indicator Light Status:

Setting Up the Appliance

Follow the instructions provided in the separate Quick Guide for setting up the appliance. For the first use, it is recommended to prepare 4-5 cappuccinos to ensure optimal results. The initial noise may be higher as the water circuit fills.

Note: Traces of coffee in the mill are from factory testing and indicate the care taken in product development.

It is recommended to install the water filter immediately. Replace the filter every two months or if the appliance has not been used for 3 weeks, even if no message appears.

Customize water hardness as soon as possible.

Turning the Machine On and Off

Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an automatic preheat and rinse cycle that cannot be interrupted. The machine is ready for use only after this cycle is completed. Similarly, when turned off after making coffee, it performs an automatic rinse cycle.

Caution: Hot water may flow from the coffee spouts during rinsing. Avoid contact with splashes.

Press the power button to turn the appliance on or off. If the appliance will not be used for an extended period, unplug it from the mains socket.

Making Coffee Beverages

Using Coffee Beans

Using Pre-ground Coffee

Varying the Coffee Aroma

Press the button corresponding to the desired aroma: Mild, Medium, or Strong. The machine will remember the last selected aroma for subsequent use. In case of power failure, it reverts to the medium setting.

Rinsing

To clean and heat the internal circuit, press and hold the 'x2' button for approximately 5 seconds. The delivery will stop automatically.

Tips for a Hotter Coffee

Adjusting the Coffee Mill

The coffee mill is pre-set. To adjust, turn the dial while the mill is operating. If coffee flows too slowly or not at all, turn the dial one click towards '7'. If you want a fuller-bodied coffee, turn one click towards '1'. Adjustments are noticeable after at least two coffees have been made.

Customising the Quantity in the Cup

Press and hold the beverage button to enter programming mode. The indicator light will flash quickly. Once the desired quantity is reached, press the button again to stop delivery and memorize the quantity. To cancel, press another beverage button.

For 'My Latte' beverages, only the coffee quantity can be programmed; the milk quantity is used as per the recipe.

Making Milk-Based Beverages (LatteCrema System)

Preparing the Milk Container

To open the milk container lid, turn it clockwise until the line aligns with the symbol, then lift the lid.

Which Milk to Use?

For richer froth, use skimmed or partially skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (approx. 5°C). Clean the Lattecrema System after each use to avoid poor froth or large bubbles. Froth quality can vary based on milk type, brand, and nutritional content.

How Much Milk to Add?

A graduated scale on the milk container indicates the ideal quantity. For 'My Latte', the machine detects and uses all the milk poured into the container, allowing you to dispense the exact amount you desire.

Note: The volume of milk increases by about 2/3 after delivery. Ensure your glass or cup is large enough.

To close the milk container lid, align the line on the lid with the symbol, then turn towards the symbol until it clicks.

Selecting Coffee Aroma or Pre-ground Coffee

Before selecting a milk beverage, you can customize the coffee aroma as described in section '4.3 Varying the coffee aroma' or select pre-ground coffee.

At the End of Preparation

Clean the milk container after preparing the last milk beverage. If milk remains, store the container in the refrigerator. For optimal results, clean the Lattecrema System thoroughly as described in section '12. Cleaning the Milk Container'.

Customising the Hot Water Quantity

Press and hold the 'Hot water' button to enter programming mode. The indicator light will flash quickly. Once the desired quantity is reached, press the button again to stop delivery and memorize the quantity. To cancel, press another beverage button.

Default Hot Water Quantity: 250 ml (Programmable: 20-420 ml)

Measuring Water Hardness

The descaling alarm is triggered based on water hardness. The machine is factory set to 'Level 4'. You can adjust this setting for less frequent descaling.

  1. Take the test strip and immerse it in water for one second.
  2. Shake the strip. After a minute, 1-4 red squares will appear, indicating the hardness level (1: Low, 2: Medium, 3: Medium/High, 4: High).

Refer to section '10. Settings menu' to set the machine according to water hardness.

Water Softener Filter

To maintain performance, use and regularly replace the De'Longhi water softener filter. Purchase filters at www.delonghi.com.

Replacing the Filter

Replace the filter after two months of use or if the appliance has not been used for 3 weeks, even if no message appears.

Removing the Filter

If you wish to use the appliance without the filter, remove it and notify the machine of its removal via the settings menu.

Tips for Energy Saving

Settings Menu

Access the menu by pressing and holding the 'x5 sec' button. Use the other buttons to navigate and adjust settings:

Press the power button to exit the menu. The machine will automatically exit the menu after 30 seconds of inactivity.

Reset Default Values

With the machine in standby, press and hold buttons 1, 2, and 'x2' for 5 seconds to reset all settings and beverage quantities to factory defaults. A long beep and flashing indicator lights confirm the reset.

Cleaning the Machine

Important Precautions:

Grounds Container

Empty and clean the grounds container when the light indicates. The machine cannot make coffee until this is done. The message may appear after 72 hours even if the container is not full, if the machine has been disconnected from power.

Drip Tray Components

The drip tray has a water level indicator. Empty and clean the drip tray and grounds container before the indicator protrudes. Wash all components. Check and empty the red condensate tray if necessary.

Inside of the Machine

Periodically check the inside of the machine (accessible after removing the drip tray) for dirt. Switch off and unplug the machine. Never immerse it in water. Remove coffee deposits with a brush or sponge, and vacuum any residues.

Coffee Spouts

Clean the coffee spouts regularly with a sponge or cloth. Check for blockages and remove deposits with a toothpick if necessary.

Cleaning the Milk Container

Important Precautions:

Clean the milk container after each milk preparation:

  1. Remove the lid and all removable components.
  2. Extract the milk intake tube.
  3. Turn the milk spout vertically and pull to extract.
  4. Press the button to extract the connector.
  5. Rinse all components with hot running water (at least 40°C) and wash in the dishwasher (50°C, ECO program) or by hand with mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  6. Ensure the air groove is clean.
  7. Reassemble lid components, reinserting the connector.
  8. Attach the lid back onto the milk container.

Cleaning the Infuser

Important Precautions:

The infuser cannot be extracted while the machine is on.

  1. Turn off the machine.
  2. Remove the water tank.
  3. Open the infuser door.
  4. Press the two colored release buttons inwards and pull the infuser outwards.
  5. Soak the infuser in water for about 5 minutes, then rinse under the tap.
  6. Important: Rinse with water only. No detergents or dishwasher.
  7. Use the brush to remove coffee residues from the infuser housing.
  8. After cleaning, slide the infuser back onto its support and push until it clicks.

Note: If the infuser is difficult to insert, adjust its position by pressing the levers before insertion.

  1. Close the infuser door.
  2. Put the water tank back.

Descaling

Follow the descaling procedure carefully, paying attention to the quantities required for each step:

Before Use: Read descaler instructions. Use only De'Longhi descaler. Accidental spills should be dried immediately.

Important: If the water softener filter is installed, remove it before adding descaler and reinsert it after the first rinse.

Note: The descaling cycle cannot be interrupted. After descaling, water in the grounds container is normal. If the water tank was not filled to MAX during rinsing, a third rinse may be prompted. Empty the drip tray before starting rinsing.
