Getting Started
Indications for Use
Mito Red Lights are general wellness devices intended to promote overall health and wellness by supporting cellular function. They are not intended to cure or diagnose any medical conditions. Operation should be based on the user guidelines in this manual.
First Time Users
For first-time users, start with 2-3 minute sessions per area, gradually increasing to 10-minute sessions over 2-3 weeks as your body acclimates. Allow at least 6 hours between sessions on the same area. Limit sessions to 15 minutes. Use the device 4-10 times per week, with at least one day off.
Standard Use
Mito Red Original 2.0: Recommended 10-minute sessions at 6-12 inches from the device. Additional 10-minute sessions for specific areas may be beneficial, but diminishing returns may occur beyond a certain point.
Maintenance
The Mito Red Light requires basic care and regular cleaning. Unplug the light and wipe the surface with a cloth or paper towel. Do not use harsh cleaning chemicals or bleach. Ensure the light is dry before use. The device is intended for indoor use only.
Safety Precautions
Due to the brightness of the LEDs, wear eye protection when facing the lights, especially when NIR is active. Do not stare directly into the light emitting diodes (LEDs). If you have eye problems or other health conditions, consult a licensed healthcare professional before using the device.
Contraindications
Contraindications for Red Light Therapy
There are no industry-wide accepted contraindications for red light therapy. Research is ongoing, and contraindications are derived from existing research and clinical inferences.
Potential Hazards
- Heat: Red light therapy generates thermal energy which may present a hazard in some conditions.
- Light: The electromagnetic radiation used is low in energy but may affect light-sensitive tissues.
- Tissue Stimulation: Red light therapy stimulates tissues, which may be undesirable in some disease states.
Absolute Contraindications
- Recent Burns: Residual thermal energy from recent burns may be increased by red light therapy.
- Malignant Cancers: Theoretical risk of increasing cell proliferation in malignant cancers.
- Hyperthyroidism (Neck & Upper Chest): May increase thyroid activity.
- Pregnancy (Abdomen): Effects on developing fetuses are not fully understood and may be negative.
- Eye Disease (Eyes): Effects on eye conditions are not fully understood; light-sensitive cells may respond unfavorably.
- Light Sensitivity: Individuals with extreme sensitivity to light or previous adverse reactions should avoid use.
Relative Contraindications
- Fever or Infection: May worsen existing hyperthermia.
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE): May cause skin sensitivity.
- Severe Bleeding or Blood Loss: May slow the body's ability to stop bleeding.
- Photosensitizing Medications: May increase risks of light sensitivity.
- Tattoos: May cause cosmetic defects, especially with red inks, leading to fading or uneven absorption.
- Dark Skin Pigmentation: May absorb more light, potentially increasing warmth and slightly decreasing penetration.
- Dark Hair: May absorb more light, potentially increasing warmth and slightly decreasing penetration.
- Melasma / Hyperpigmentation: While studies show improvement, some users may experience the opposite effect. Start slowly and use red light only if concerned.
Consult with a physician before using red light therapy if you have any contraindications or health conditions.
FAQs
Is Red Light Therapy Safe? Are There Side Effects?
Mito Red Light uses clinically proven red and near-infrared wavelengths. Consult your healthcare provider for specific questions about concerns or health conditions.
Do I Need Safety Glasses With This Light?
Mito Red's lights are very bright. Eye protection is provided and should be worn when facing the lights, particularly when NIR is active.
When Using, Do Not Stare Directly Into the Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs).
Consult a licensed healthcare professional before using the device if you have eye problems or other health conditions.
Are the NIR LEDs Not Working?
NIR is invisible to the naked eye. A subtle pink glow indicates the LEDs are working as designed.
Will Light Therapy Treatments Cause Detox Symptoms?
Detox symptoms may occur as your body acclimates. If experienced, stop use until symptoms subside, then gradually increase session duration. Consult your healthcare provider if concerns persist. Mito Red Light offers a 60-day trial and refund policy.
What If My Skin Is Burned or Damaged?
Red light therapy has been clinically proven to help damaged skin heal. Consult your healthcare provider if you have concerns. Mito Red Light does not provide medical advice.
What If I Have A Pre-Existing Health Condition or Take Medications?
Consult your healthcare provider if you have pre-existing conditions or take photosensitizing drugs. Avoid using red light therapy with steroids, as they may counteract each other.
Can Children Use Mito Red Light®?
Red and NIR light therapy is generally safe. Consult a healthcare professional before use with children, and ensure adult supervision.
Can Pregnant or Nursing Women Use the Lights?
There is no clinical research on pregnant or nursing subjects. Consult your healthcare provider before use if pregnant or lactating.
Other Considerations: Botox, Breast Implants and Lasik
Consult a dermatologist before use if you have a history of facial fillers or Botox injections. Consult a plastic surgeon before use if you have breast implants. Do not use the device during the healing period post-Lasik eye surgery. Consult your doctor before resuming use. Always follow user guidelines and use provided goggles when facing the light panel.

Light Therapy Overview
What is Red and Near Infrared Light Therapy?
Red and near-infrared light are parts of the electromagnetic spectrum emitted by the sun. These wavelengths are bioactive in humans.
The electromagnetic spectrum ranges from gamma rays to radio waves, with visible light and infrared being key components. Red light is at the higher end of the visible spectrum (approx. 600-700nm), and near-infrared (NIR) is just above it (approx. 700-1100nm). These wavelengths have significant effects on the body, with research focusing on ranges of 620-680nm and 800-880nm. Unlike other light wavelengths (UV, blue, green, yellow), red and NIR light can penetrate deeper into the body, reaching cells, tissues, blood, nerves, bones, and even the brain.
Red Light Boosts Cellular Energy Production
The primary mechanism of red and near-infrared light therapy is increased mitochondrial energy production. Mitochondria, the energy power plants of cells, use oxygen more efficiently when interacting with specific photons in red and NIR light. This interaction stimulates mitochondria to produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of cells. Increased cellular energy leads to better cell performance and overall bodily function.
