OUTLINE & MOUNTING FOR ASCO SERIES H150, H300, H386 TRANSFER SWITCHES RATED 600-1200 AMPS
General Notes
- The standard switch configuration is for top emergency & load and bottom normal.
- Neutral Configurations: H150/H300-A: Full rated solid (copper bus) neutral connection for each source and the load is provided standard. Optionally a switched neutral pole may be provided as specified by the catalog no. (B) indicates a switched neutral pole. H386-AN: An optional full rated neutral connection for each source and the load may be provided. When equipped it is in one of the following formats as specified by the catalog no. Neutral Type: A. Solid (copper bus) neutral B. Switched neutral pole
- The standard mechanical (screw type) AL/CU terminal lugs are shown for reference (800-1200).
- Switch and solid neutral poles are shown for reference.
- When installing conductors, connect to similarly marked phases of normal, emergency & load.
- All internal connections are made at factory.
- Maintain electrical clearance of 1 inch (25.4 mm) between live metal parts and grounded metal.
- When mounting the transfer switch in the enclosure, the control panel(s) and operator controls should be mounted on the inside, rear surface of the door. 6 in. min. depth to transfer switch for controls is required.
- The control panel(s) is connected to the transfer switch by a harness with a quick disconnect plug(s). The harness exits the transfer switch on the right side. Consult factory for extension harnesses.
- For Type 1 enclosure see detail A -1 for cutout data. For Type 3R, 4, & 12 enclosure see detail A-2 for cutout data. Gaskets and bezels are provided for Type 3R, 4, & 12 enclosure.
Cabling Accommodations (Per Phase & Neutral)

- Optional copper crimp lugs may be supplied. Up to four (4) two-hole, long barrel CU crimp lugs rated for up to 600 MCM.
Minimum Required Enclosure Size [Inch (mm)]
Switch Rating (Amps) | Height | Width | Depth |
---|---|---|---|
600, 800, 1000 | 72 (1828.8) | 34 (863.6) | 20 (508) |
1200 | 87 (2209.8) | 38 (965.2) | 23 (584.2) |
Note: Width may be 30" (762mm) if no cables are to be run along the side of the transfer switch. 1200 Amps requires ventilation top and bottom.
Bus Termination Detail
The bus termination detail specifies the dimensions of the bus bar bolting surface (3.25 inches [82.6mm] x 2.50 inches [63.5mm]) and the type of studs used (375-16 x 1.50 LG self-clinching studs) for Normal and Emergency connections. Side views further illustrate termination details specific to 600-800 Amps and 1000-1200 Amps ratings.
Control Panel & Controls Mounting
Control Panel Mounting Data
The control panel mounting data is presented with a front view showing a suggested cutout within an enclosure. Key dimensions for the cutout are provided, along with details for mounting DIN rail and operator controls. Specific mounting hole types and sizes ('A', 'B', 'C') are indicated for captive studs, with notes on enclosure types (Type 1, 3R, 12, 4) and grounding strap placement.
Control Panel Mounting Notes
- Detail "A"-1 is for Type 1 enclosure.
- Detail "A"-2 is for Type 3R, 12, and Type 4 enclosure.
- Suggested mounting hole 'A' uses 0.137-0.140" diameter for 8-32 x 0.625" long captive studs.
- Suggested mounting hole 'B' uses 0.249-0.252" diameter for 0.250-20 x 1.50" long captive studs.
- Suggested mounting hole 'C' uses 0.163-0.166" diameter for 6-32 x 0.313" long captive studs.
- Capture grounding strap at the lower left corner of the control panel with mounting hardware on the mounting stud.
Mounting of Field Terminal Block Assembly (TB) (H386 Only)
For H386 models, the mounting of the field terminal block (TB) assembly is shown. Diagrams include a top view and side view illustrating its placement adjacent to the right side of the transfer switch, with details on the mounting flange. The terminal block bracket mounting requires a 7.50" [190.5mm] mounting flange, with a 0.50" [12.7mm] offset.
