Introduction
The Sony SBH82D Open-ear Stereo Bluetooth Earbuds keep you connected to your surroundings while listening to music or talking on your mobile phone wirelessly via Bluetooth. They also allow you to manage calls and use the voice assistant when paired with a compatible Android™ or iOS device.

First Steps
Charging
Before using the earbuds for the first time, it is recommended to charge them with a Sony charger. You can check the battery level by examining the LED indicator color:
- Red: Low battery level
- Orange: Medium battery level
- Green: High battery level
- No light: Fully charged
A full charge of a completely discharged battery may take up to 2 hours. The battery lasts approximately 7.5 hours when listening to music at a temperature of 25 °C (77 °F).
The earbuds have an uncovered USB port. The USB port must be completely dry before connecting a cable for charging.
How to charge the earbuds
- Connect one end of the charging cable to the charger or the USB port of a computer.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the USB port of the earbuds.
For information on the recommended charger, visit www.sonymobile.com/products/accessories/. The LED indicator will flash red when the battery level is low. When the LED indicator flashes red, charge the earbuds.
Checking the battery level
You can check the battery level by examining the LED indicator. To check the battery level, press the power button with the earbuds turned on.
The relationship between the battery level and the number of times the LED indicator flashes is as follows:
- Flashes green three times: High battery level
- Flashes orange three times: Medium battery level
- No light: Low battery level
Powering On and Off
How to turn on the earbuds
Press and hold the power button [Power] for 2 seconds. The LED indicator flashes green twice.
How to turn off the earbuds
Press and hold the power button [Power] for 2 seconds. The LED indicator flashes green once.
If the earbuds remain inactive for ten minutes, they will turn off automatically.
Pairing the earbuds with an Android or iOS device
To pair the earbuds with an Android device, you can use One-touch Connection (NFC) or Bluetooth. To pair the earbuds with an iOS device, use Bluetooth. After pairing the earbuds with an Android or iOS device, the information is saved. The earbuds can save up to eight paired devices.
Pairing with an Android device using One-touch Connection (NFC)

- Ensure the earbuds are fully charged.
- On the Android device, ensure NFC is activated and the screen is unlocked.
- Tap the N mark [NFC] on the earbuds with the NFC detection area of the Android device.
- Follow the on-screen instructions on the Android device to complete pairing.
How to pair the earbuds with an Android or iOS device using Bluetooth
- Ensure the earbuds are fully charged and turned off.
- On the Android or iOS device, ensure Bluetooth is activated.
- Press and hold the power button [Power] for about seven seconds.
- Search for available Bluetooth devices on the Android or iOS device, then select SBH82D.
The earbuds automatically enter pairing mode when turned on for the first time.
Wearing Instructions
Follow these steps to wear the earbuds.

- Hold the sound duct of the right earbud (R) with your left hand.
- Gently pull down the right ear hook with your right hand.
- Slide the earbud from behind, so the driver unit is behind your ear, then insert the ear tip holder into your ear as shown in the illustration.
- Wear the left earbud (L) using the same procedure with your opposite hand.
How to remove the earbuds
Hold the sound duct of the right earbud (R), then carefully slide it downwards to remove the earbud.
Do not hold the driver unit when removing the earbud. Doing so may break the sound duct.
How to change the ear tip holder

- Choose an ear tip holder size that fits stably and comfortably in your ear.
- To remove the ear tip holder, firmly hold the part of the sound duct to which the ear tip holder is attached. Then, push it backward.
- To attach the ear tip holder, align the convex part of the earbud with the concave part of the ear tip holder.
- When attaching, cover the hook A with the rubber of the ear tip holder as shown in the illustration. Ensure not to break the ear tip holder.
When removing or attaching the ear tip holder, do not pull, push, or twist it forcefully, as this may damage or break it. When attaching, ensure the left and right marks on the ear tip holders match the marks on the earbuds.
Adjusting the volume
How to change the volume
During a call or while listening to music, press the volume [+] or [-] button to increase or decrease the volume.
Do not use the earbuds at excessively high volumes, as this may cause permanent hearing damage or disturb people nearby.
Using the Earbuds
Using the earbuds for phone calls
For your safety, do not use the earbuds to manage calls while driving. To prevent accidents, it is not recommended to use earbuds while walking, running, or cycling. Your Android or iOS device must be compatible to use these functions (e.g., call management).
To answer a call
If you hear an incoming call, briefly press the multi-function button.
How to end a call
During an ongoing call, briefly press the multi-function button.
How to reject a call
If you hear an incoming call, press and hold the multi-function button for 1 second.
How to answer a second call
If you hear an incoming call during an ongoing call, briefly press the multi-function button to answer the second call. The current call will be put on hold.
How to reject a second call
If you hear an incoming call during an ongoing call, press and hold the multi-function button for 1 second to reject the second call.
How to switch between calls
Quickly press the multi-function button twice. The other call will be put on hold.
How to mute the microphone during a call
Press and hold the multi-function button for 1 second. You will hear beeps. To unmute the microphone, press and hold the button again for 1 second until you hear beeps.
Using the earbuds for music playback
If the earbuds are connected to an Android or iOS device, you can play audio content from that device (e.g., music) through the earbuds. Open the corresponding application on your Android or iOS device to start listening to the audio content.
To pause or skip songs
- While listening to music, briefly press the multi-function button to pause the song. Briefly press it again to resume the song.
- Quickly press the multi-function button twice to skip to the next song.
- Quickly press the multi-function button three times to go to the previous song.
Using the voice assistant function
How to activate the voice assistant
Press and hold the multi-function button for 1 second to speak to the voice assistant.
To use these functions, you must use a compatible Android or iOS device. Follow the on-screen instructions of your Android or iOS device.
Using Multipoint mode
You can use Multipoint mode to pair the earbuds with two compatible Android or iOS devices simultaneously. This allows you to receive calls from both paired devices without having to disconnect and reconnect.
In single-point mode, the earbuds are paired with only one Android or iOS device. Single-point mode is enabled by default. If you want to continue using single-point mode but switch to a new Android or iOS device, disconnect the earbuds from the first device and then pair them with the new one.
The voice assistant feature is not available in Multipoint mode.
How to activate Multipoint mode
- Turn off the earbuds.
- Press and hold the Volume [+] button and the Power [Power] button until the LED indicator flashes green twice quickly, then flashes green twice slowly, indicating that Multipoint mode has been activated.
- When the LED indicator flashes blue, pair the earbuds with an Android or iOS device.
Refer to "Pairing the earbuds with an Android or iOS device" on page 6 for more information about pairing.
How to activate single-point mode
- Turn off the earbuds.
- Press and hold the Volume [-] button and the Power [Power] button until the LED indicator flashes green twice quickly, then flashes green once slowly, indicating that single-point mode has been activated.
When you deactivate Multipoint mode, the earbuds remain paired with the device that was last paired.
Resetting the earbuds
You can reset the hardware or factory settings of your earbuds. Reset the hardware if the earbuds are unresponsive. Resetting the hardware does not erase information about paired devices. Reset the factory settings if the earbuds behave unexpectedly. Resetting the factory settings restores the earbuds to their original settings and erases information about paired devices.
How to reset the earbud hardware
Press and hold the power button [Power] for ten seconds.
How to reset the earbud factory settings
- Turn off the earbuds.
- Press and hold the Power [Power] and Multi-function buttons simultaneously for 1 second. The LED indicator flashes green 4 times. Then, it repeatedly flashes blue twice to indicate that it is in pairing mode.
