Wiring Diagrams and Installation Instructions
Single-Pole Wiring
This configuration is used when controlling a light fixture from a single location.
Diagram shows a power source (Line, Neutral, Ground) connected to a dimmer switch. The Line wire connects to one terminal of the dimmer. The Load wire connects to another terminal of the dimmer and then to the light fixture. The Neutral wire from the power source connects directly to the light fixture's neutral terminal. The Ground wire connects to the dimmer's ground terminal and the fixture's ground terminal.
3-Way Wiring
This configuration allows control of a light fixture from two different locations.
Diagram shows a power source connected to the Line terminal of the first dimmer switch. Two "Traveler" wires connect between the first dimmer's traveler terminal and the second dimmer's traveler terminal. The Load wire from the second dimmer's load terminal connects to the light fixture. The Neutral wire connects to both dimmers and the fixture. The Ground wire connects to all components.
4-Way Wiring
This configuration allows control of a light fixture from three or more locations.
Diagram shows a power source connected to the Line terminal of the first switch (which can be a dimmer or a remote switch). Two sets of "Traveler" wires connect between the first switch and a second switch (e.g., a 4-way switch). These travelers then connect to the third switch (e.g., another 4-way switch), and finally to the dimmer switch. The Load wire from the dimmer switch connects to the light fixture. Neutral and Ground wires connect to all components.
Standard 3-Way/4-Way Wiring Hybrid
This section details specific wiring scenarios for 3-way and 4-way installations, often involving a primary dimmer and remote switches.
Diagrams illustrate connections for various combinations of smart dimmers and remote companion switches in 3-way and 4-way setups. Key connections include Line, Load, Travelers, Neutral, and Ground. Specific terminal labels (e.g., L, L1, L2, N, G) are shown for clarity.
Troubleshooting Indicators
The manual includes visual indicators to help diagnose wiring issues:
- ? (Happy face): Indicates correct wiring.
- ? (Worried face): Indicates potential wiring error.
- ? (Sad face): Indicates incorrect wiring.
