AMUTO53 Update Guide

Notes before Continuing

You can check if your Aerpro headunit requires an update by navigating to the Version section on your head unit in the settings, tapping Other, and then checking the date of the current firmware against the firmware on the Aerpro website. If the date on the Aerpro website is later than the date listed on your head unit, then an update is available. Note, that there isn't any harm in updating the firmware anyway if you're unsure.

Visual Description: The first page displays screenshots of the head unit's settings menu. One shows the main settings categories including 'General', 'Audio', 'Display', 'Car Settings', and 'Other'. Another screenshot shows the 'Other' menu expanded, highlighting 'Factory Reset', 'Version', 'Software Update', 'Open Source License', and 'System Reboot'. A third screenshot shows the 'Version' screen with details like 'Version: AMUTO53', 'Date: 20240812_1820', 'SDK', 'Mcu', and 'CAN' information.

Finding and Downloading the Update

This guide is for the Toyota LC200 VX/Sahara 2016-2021 models.

Navigate to the Aerpro website at https://aerpro.com and search for your head unit's model number based on the system version your head unit lists. You can find specific product information for the AMUTO53 at https://aerpro.com/AMUTO53.

Visual Description: The page shows a screenshot of the Aerpro website's search interface. It includes fields for searching products by vehicle or category, and a search bar labeled 'AMUTO53'. Below this, there's a section titled "Need help searching for the right products?" with a link to a step-by-step video.

Scroll down the page and click the zip file to download the firmware update. The files will be contained within a zip archive. You can use Windows' built-in zip manager to open the zip file and view its contents.

Preparing the USB Drive

Plug in your USB device. Ensure it is blank, 32GB or less in storage capacity, and formatted in FAT32. You can format the USB device by right-clicking on the USB drive in Windows Explorer and selecting 'Format'. Make sure the 'File system' is set to FAT32 (Default). PLEASE BE AWARE: ALL YOUR FILES WILL BE DELETED ON THE USB WHEN FORMATTING.

Visual Description: The page shows a screenshot of Windows File Explorer, displaying 'This PC' with drives like 'OS (C:)' and 'USB Drive (D:)'. A context menu is shown after right-clicking the USB drive, with options including 'Open', 'Cut', 'Copy', 'Rename', and 'Format...'. A separate dialog box, 'Format USB Drive (D:)', is also shown, with options to select 'File system' (FAT32, NTFS, exFAT) and 'Format options' (Quick Format).

Copying Firmware Files to USB

Once the USB drive is formatted, open the downloaded zip file. Inside, you will find two folders: one named with the model number, version, and date (e.g., 'AMUTO53 16-21 v1.4 (20250430)'), and another named 'inclinometer update'.

Open the first folder (e.g., 'AMUTO53 16-21 v1.4 (20250430)') and copy the six files contained within it.

Visual Description: The page displays a screenshot of Windows File Explorer showing the contents of the 'AMUTO53 16-21 v1.4' folder. The files listed are DownLoad.bin, DownLoad.hex, ISPBOOOT.BIN, ISPBOOOT_UPDATE_P.BIN, ProjInfo.BIN, and sppf_P_mcu32.img. A context menu is visible, showing the 'Copy' option selected.

Navigate to your inserted USB drive in Windows File Explorer. Right-click in an empty space within the USB drive's folder and select 'Paste' to copy the files.

There should now be 6 files on the USB device. Safely remove the USB device from your computer.

Installing the Firmware Update

It is very important that the following steps are followed exactly.

To install the update, turn on your head unit without the update USB connected. Once the unit is fully booted, plug the update USB into the designated USB port for the head unit. NOTE: This is typically the grey USB port used for CarPlay/Android Auto, which is usually connected to the factory USB port.

The unit should then ask if you want to install an update. If a prompt does not appear, navigate to the settings menu, click 'Other', then select 'Software Update'. A message box should then appear asking if you want to update. If it still does not appear, the update files may not have been copied to the USB correctly, and you should try the procedure again.

The Update Process

Once you have confirmed the update, the system may reset a couple of times and show a black screen in between. DO NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE DURING THIS PROCEDURE. Please be patient. An update screen will appear. Continue waiting, and you will eventually see a screen similar to the one described below. (If you do not see this screen after waiting 5 minutes, then please start the process again using another USB).

The home screen may appear during the update process, but continue to wait until a second progress bar appears with a black screen. If this does not happen, the update may not have been copied correctly, and you should try the procedure again.

DO NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE DURING THIS PROCEDURE. Please be patient. Once the update has finished, you will be presented with a confirmation screen. Please remove the USB drive and press the 'OK' button to restart the head unit.

Visual Description: The page shows two key screens. The first is a simple "Updating..." screen. The second is a confirmation screen that reads "finished! Please remove USB/SD with update files, after remove confirm with OK." with an 'OK' button.

It is recommended that you perform a factory reset on the device after the update is finished to ensure that new defaults are applied. The update is now complete.

Updating the Inclinometer Module

You may also need to update the firmware of the inclinometer sensor module. This is only necessary if you are on a particular version of the Sensor.

To check your current version, navigate to the settings, tap 'Other', and then select 'DR Sensor Update'.

Visual Description: The page shows screenshots of the head unit interface. One shows the 'Other' menu with 'DR Sensor Update' highlighted. The second shows the 'DR Update' screen, displaying 'Current version: HD8040SF.0586765' and asking 'DR Sensor Update?' with 'Cancel' and 'OK' buttons.

If your current version number is HD8040SF.0586765 and you are experiencing issues with the inclinometer, you will need to perform this update.

Using the same process as before, format a USB drive on a computer. Navigate to the 'Inclinometer Update (HD8040SF.0615412)' folder within the downloaded update zip file. Simply copy the single file named 'prom' over to the blank USB drive.

Visual Description: The page shows a screenshot of Windows File Explorer displaying the 'Inclinometer Update (HD8040SF.0615412)' folder, containing a file named prom.bin. A context menu is shown with the 'Copy' option selected.

Come back to the head unit and plug in the USB drive using the same port as before. If you are still on the 'DR Sensor Update' screen, press 'OK'. You should be presented with an update bar.

If there is no progress or the progress bar does not fully complete, turn the vehicle off, wait 30 seconds on the home screen for the sensor module to initialise, and then turn the vehicle back on. Try the update process again.

Once completed, you can double-check to ensure that the version number has changed to HD8040SF.0615412. If it has, the update is successful. Please note that the inclinometer may require re-calibrating and will take some time to fully calibrate depending on signal strength.

It is recommended to factory reset the head unit, then turn off the car, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. You can then check the date number to confirm the update was successful and adjust your settings as desired.
