- ❗ Prior to using the pump, check to make sure there are no abnormalities such as scratches, breaks, cracks, or deformities.
- ❗ Clean your hands before expressing.
1.4 How to assemble
Caution: Prior to using for the first time, disassemble the pump, wash and sterilize the parts. Clean your hands before assembling. This pump can be disassembled into small parts. Do not let children put any parts in their mouth and do not lose any parts during assembly. Do not handle silicone rubber parts roughly. Doing so will cause tears or scratches. Always assemble the pump in the correct order.
- Insert the stem into the diaphragm.
- Place the diaphragm on top of the main body. Firmly sit the bottom of the diaphragm in the groove of the main body. If not fitted securely, air will leak through and the pump will not be able to achieve suction.
- Insert the milk valve seal into the milk valve body. *Be careful not to insert it in the wrong direction. Insert it all the way into the hole in the center. Attach the milk valve body to the main body, push it in as far as possible. It will cause suction to fail if the milk valve body is not inserted deep enough.
- Attach the main body to the bottle.
- Press the bottle into the bottle stand.
- Attach the handle base to the main body.
- Attach the handle to the handle base: (1) Align with the shaft of the handle base to the groove of handle. (2) Gently press the handle down till you hear a click.
- Press the "PUSH" part at the tip of the handle to set the handle hole into the first (top) notch of the stem.
- Attach the funnel cushion onto the funnel.
- Attach the funnel to the main body.
1.5 How to use
Caution: If you are unable to express any breast milk after a period of time, do not continue pumping. Doing so may cause nipple pain. Stop expressing if you are experiencing pain or discomfort. Stop using the pump if you are experiencing pain in your fingers or hands. Continued use under such conditions may cause tenosynovitis. Take care not to knock over a bottle containing breast milk because the contents may spill.
- Wash your hands before use.
- Wash and sterilize the breast pump first and then assemble it properly.
- Sit and relax in a chair to begin expressing.
- Centralize the funnel over your nipple/ papilla. Press the funnel firmly against your breast so that air does not escape from the sides. You can create a good seal by using your other hand to support your breast from below.
Note: Breast milk may not start to flow at the start of expressing. Short and quick pumps (fast speed in squeezing and releasing of handle while in stimulation mode) could stimulate your nipple / papilla until a let-down (sudden gush of breast milk) occurs. Let-down varies with the condition of the breast and the body. There are also individual differences. If your nipple is unable to fit within the funnel without rubbing, you may need the larger size (sold separately).
Modes of Use:
5 Stimulation mode
You can use fast but gentle suction pumping to stimulate a let-down. Start with setting the handle in the first (top) notch of stem. After placing the funnel over breast, start squeezing and releasing the handle rapidly to your preferred speed or pace. During the process, ensure your nipple/papilla is moving along with each squeezing and releasing motion. Continue the process until a let-down is achieved. While pumping, you may turn the handle to adjust to a comfortable grip position at any point of time.
6 Expression mode
Once the breast milk starts to flow, switch to Expression Mode. To switch, gently press the "PUSH" part at the tip of handle to set the handle to the second (bottom) notch of the stem. Continue squeezing and releasing the handle at your preferred suction pressure and speed for a comfortable yet effective expression. While pumping, you may turn the handle to adjust to a comfortable grip position at any point of time.
If the suction pressure feels weak when expressing your breast milk, squeeze the handle all the way. The suction pressure changes based on how hard you squeeze the handle. Expressing in comfort is more important than setting a strong suction pressure. Please express breast milk at a suction pressure that feels appropriate for you.
To return to Stimulation mode from Expression mode: Pull the tip of the stem towards you. Gently squeeze the handle, and set it in the first (top) notch.
Caution: If too much breast milk comes out during Expression mode, it may overflow to the diaphragm side. Release the handle before the breast milk overflows.
1.6 How to wash and sterilize
Always disassemble the parts before washing and sterilizing.
Caution: Wash and sterilize the pump before using it for the first time. Soak the pump in lukewarm water and wash them by using a cleanser such as "Pigeon Liquid Cleanser" after use. Please make sure to rinse thoroughly after washing. Sterilize the parts after washing. Be careful not to lose small parts when washing the pump parts. Use a soft sponge brush for washing. Do not handle silicone rubber parts roughly. Doing so will cause tears or scratches. Do note that cleaning with a scourer, polishing powder, or hard brush may scratch the surface.
Caring for the included nipple
To protect the ventilation valve, a white powdered food additive has been applied. Before using for the first time, wash thoroughly.
Use both hands to clean the ventilation valve, vent, and nipple hole by rubbing gently. If you scrub or pull on it too hard, the valve may split, and it causes leaks.
The tip of the nipple is extremely delicate. Push the tip of the nipple with your finger when washing with a cleaning brush.
Caring for milk valve body and milk valve seal
If breast milk adheres to the milk valve body and milk valve seal, the milk valve body will not work properly and suction will become weak.
After use, remove the milk valve body from the milk valve seal and wash them well with cleanser in lukewarm water as soon as possible. Wash the inside of the milk valve body by gently scrubbing with fingers.
Sterilization Methods:
[Boiling sterilization]
Place thoroughly washed parts in a large pot filled with water. Bring to a boil. Sterilization time is 5 minutes after the water comes to a boil.
If there is insufficient water, the parts may stick to the side of the pot and become deformed.
Do not boil excessively. Doing so can damage the product quickly.
[Steam sterilization]
It is recommended to use a Pigeon steam sterilizer for steam sterilization. When using an electric steam sterilizer, please follow its operating instructions.
[Chemical sterilization]
Use sterilization products made specifically for baby products. Follow instruction in the user's manual for these products.
1.7 How to store expressed breast milk
Storage period
You are advised to feed freshly expressed breast milk to your baby as soon as possible. It is recommended not to store breast milk for longer than the duration indicated below.
Refrigerator (≤4°C) | Freezer (about -18°C) | |
---|---|---|
Freshly pumped breast milk | 24 hours | 3 months (recommended) 6 months (usable) |
Thawed breast milk (thawed in the refrigerator or submerged in running water) | 24 hours* | Do not refreeze |
* If thawed by immersing in warm water, do not place back in the refrigerator.
How to thaw frozen breast milk
Thaw breast milk using method 1, 2 or 3^.
- Immerse in warm water at around 40°C.
- Place in the refrigerator. *For up to 24 hours after taken out of the freezer.
- Place under warm running water.
*Do not refreeze thawed breast milk.
^Wipe the liquid off the outer surface of the nursing bottle with a clean cloth after thawing or warming in a lukewarm water bath.
How to warm to suitable temperature for feeding
Immerse in warm water at around 40°C. Change water when it gets cold after some time. Keep repeating process until the milk is of the right temperature for feeding. Alternatively, you may use electric bottle warmer for convenient and hassle-free way of warming a feed.
* Breast milk may separate during storage. This is normal and does not affect its nutritional content. Swirl gently before feeding.
* When going out, it is recommended that you transport the breastmilk in a frozen state (without thawing it).
Caution: Do not boil or use boiling water or a microwave to thaw or heat chilled or frozen breast milk. Doing so will destroy the nutrients in breast milk. Do not thaw breast milk at room temperature. Do not mix newly-expressed breast milk with any frozen breast milk that has been stored. The scale on the bottle is for reference only. If you need an accurate measurement, use a measuring cup or a measuring spoon. Please note that the refrigerator's temperature may vary with the frequency of opening and closing the refrigerator door, as well as position in the refrigerator.
