Accu-Chek Instant Quick Start Guide

Welcome to your Accu-Chek Instant blood glucose meter. For compatible diabetes management apps, visit www.accu-chek.com.

Meter Overview

1 Up Button and Down Button: Used for navigation and adjustments.
2 Display: Shows test results, time, date, and error messages.
3 Target Range Indicator: Visually indicates if your result is within your target range.
4 Micro USB Port: For charging or data transfer (if applicable).
5 Test Strip Ejector: Safely removes used test strips.
6 Battery Door: Provides access to the battery compartment.
7 Test Strip Slot: Where the test strip is inserted.

Setting the Time and Date

The meter prompts you to set the time and date upon first use.

The display will show "set-up" with the hour flashing. Press the Up (▲) or Down (▼) button to adjust the hour.
Press and hold the Up (▲) button to set the hour and move to the next field (minutes, day, month, year).
Repeat step 2 for each field. After setting the year, press and hold the Up (▲) button until the flashing test strip symbol appears to save your settings.

Setting Up the Lancing Device

Familiarize yourself with the Accu-Chek Softclix lancing device.

Remove the lancing device cap by pulling it straight off (do not twist).
Insert a lancet into the lancing device until it clicks.
Twist off the lancet's protective cap.
Place the cap back on the lancing device, aligning the notches.
Adjust the lancet depth to a comfortable penetration level. Start with '2' and increase for tougher skin.
Press the priming button in as far as it will go (like a pen). Do not press the release button while priming. The release button will turn yellow when ready.

Performing a Blood Glucose Test

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
Remove a test strip from the container and close the cap tightly. Check the use-by date.
Insert the metallic end of the test strip into the meter. The meter will turn on, and a flashing drop symbol will appear.
Press the lancing device firmly against the side of your fingertip and press the yellow release button to prick your finger.
Touch the yellow edge of the test strip to the blood drop. Do not apply blood on top of the test strip.
Remove your finger from the test strip when the flashing hourglass symbol appears.

The test result will appear on the display in less than 4 seconds.

Before You Finish

Remove the lancing device cap.
Point the lancet away from you.
Slide out the ejector to release the lancet.

Error Messages

Error codes (E-1 through E-14) and "Err" will alternate on the display.

E-1: Test strip may be damaged, not inserted properly, or previously used. Reinsert or replace the strip.
E-3: Meter or test strip error. Ensure the test strip container cap is closed tightly. Improper storage or handling may damage strips. Never make therapy decisions based solely on an error message. Repeat the test. If the error persists, perform a control test. If the issue continues, use an alternate testing method or contact your healthcare professional. This error can also indicate extremely high blood glucose levels.
E-4: Not enough blood or control solution applied to the test strip, or applied too late. Discard the strip and repeat the test.
E-6: Blood or control solution applied before the flashing drop symbol appeared. Discard the strip and repeat the test.
E-7: Electronic error. Remove and reinsert batteries.
E-8: Temperature is outside the system's operating range. Move to an area with appropriate conditions and repeat the test. Do not artificially alter the temperature.
E-9: Batteries may be low. Replace batteries if the message persists after trying to restart the meter or moving to a moderate temperature environment.
E-10: Time and date settings may be incorrect. The meter attempts to sync with a paired device. If sync fails, you will be prompted to set the time and date manually.
E-11: Test strip may be damaged. Repeat the test with a new strip.
E-12: Blood sample may contain a high level of ascorbate. Contact your healthcare professional.
E-13: Fluid or foreign material in the test strip slot. Remove and reinsert the strip, or use a new strip. Contact Roche if the error persists.
E-14: Electronic error. Contact Roche.
