IMPORTANT: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets. Ensure the treadmill is used indoors in a climate-controlled room. If exposed to cold or moisture, warm it to room temperature before first use to prevent premature electronic failure.

Assembly

IMPORTANT: READ THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USE!

WARNING: Pay close attention during assembly. Ensure all parts are firmly tightened. Loose parts can cause noise and instability. Check for side-to-side play in console masts or forward/back play in the console/handlebars. If play exists, assembly is incorrect. Review instructions and take corrective actions.

Unpacking

Place the carton on a level surface, preferably with a protective covering. Handle with caution. Never open the box when it is on its side. Do not lift or transport the unit unless fully assembled and folded upright with the lock latch secured. Unpack where the unit will be used. YOU'RE FINISHED!

Before You Begin

Congratulations on choosing your treadmill! Regular use can improve your health in many ways, including weight loss, a healthier heart, improved muscle tone, and increased daily energy levels. Developing an exercise habit is key, and your treadmill removes obstacles like weather.

Location of the Treadmill

Place the treadmill on a level surface. Ensure 6 feet of clearance behind, 3 feet on each side, and 1 foot in front for folding and the power cord. Do not block vents or air openings. Avoid placing in garages, covered patios, near water, or outdoors.

Diagram Description: Shows recommended clearance around the treadmill: 1 foot in front, 3 feet on each side, 6 feet behind.

Proper Usage

Start at a slower speed and gradually increase. Never leave the treadmill unattended while running. When not in use, remove the safety key, turn off the switch, and unplug the power cord. Keep your body and head facing forward; do not turn around while running. Stop immediately if you feel pain, faint, dizzy, or short of breath.

WARNING: Do not operate if the power cord or plug is damaged. Do not use if the treadmill appears to be malfunctioning.

Folding

Firmly grasp the back end of the treadmill. Carefully lift the deck into the upright position until the foot lock latch engages. Ensure it's securely latched. To unfold, grasp the back end, gently press the foot lock latch with your foot until it disengages, and carefully lower the deck.

Moving

The treadmill has transport wheels. Ensure it is folded and latched. Grasp the handlebars, tilt the treadmill back, and roll it. WARNING: Treadmills are heavy; use care and assistance if necessary. Do not attempt to move or transport unless folded and latched.

Treadmill Operation

Tensioning the Running Belt:

The belt is factory-adjusted but may shift during shipping. CAUTION: Do not run the belt while tensioning. Over-tightening can cause excessive wear. If the belt slips, turn the treadmill OFF and tension BOTH REAR ROLLER BOLTS 1/4 turn to the right using the Allen wrench. Turn on and check. Repeat if necessary, but never more than 1/4 turn at a time. Proper tension is achieved when slipping stops.

Centering the Running Belt:

The belt should be centered for smooth operation. CAUTION: Do not run the belt faster than 1/2 mph while centering. Keep fingers, hair, and clothing away from the belt.

  • If belt is too far right: With treadmill at 1/2 mph, turn the right adjustment bolt clockwise 1/4 turn. Check alignment and repeat if needed.
  • If belt is too far left: With treadmill at 1/2 mph, turn the right adjustment bolt counter-clockwise 1/4 turn. Check alignment and repeat if needed.

Console Layout and Operation:

Tips: Stretching

Stretch First: Perform gentle stretching exercises before using the treadmill to improve flexibility and reduce injury risk. Stretch slowly and smoothly, without bouncing, to the point of mild tension, not pain.

  1. Standing Calf Muscle Stretch: Stand near a wall, left foot 18" from wall, right foot 12" behind. Lean forward, hands on wall. Keep heels flat. Hold 15 seconds. Repeat on other side.
  2. Standing Quadriceps Stretch: Use a wall for balance. Grasp left ankle with left hand, pull foot towards thigh. Hold 15 seconds. Repeat on right side.
  3. Sitting Hamstring & Lower Back Muscle Stretch: Sit on floor, legs straight, together. Do not lock knees. Reach towards toes. Hold 15 seconds. Repeat once.

Tips

The Importance of Warm Up & Cool Down

Warm Up: The first 2-5 minutes of a workout should be a warm-up to prepare muscles. Use a slow pace to gradually bring your heart rate into the target zone.

Cool Down: Never stop suddenly. A 3-5 minute cool-down at a very slow pace allows your heart rate to lower gradually. Follow with stretching exercises.

Achieving Your Fitness Goals

Define your primary goals (weight loss, muscle tone, stress reduction, performance). Goals help create a successful program. Examples:

  • Weight Loss: Lower intensity, longer duration.
  • Improve Body Shape/Tone: Interval workouts, alternate intensities.
  • Increased Energy: More frequent daily workouts.
  • Improved Sports Performance: High intensity workouts.
  • Improved Cardiovascular Endurance: Moderate intensity, longer duration.

Set specific, measurable goals and write them down. Break long-term goals into monthly/weekly segments. Short-term goals are easier to achieve. Use console readouts (Distance, Calories, Time) to track progress.

Keeping an Exercise Diary

To create a personal exercise log, photocopy the log sheets or print them from www.horizonfitness.com/guides/weeklylog.pdf and www.horizonfitness.com/guides/monthlylog.pdf. Tracking progress helps motivation.

Troubleshooting

Common Product Questions

  • Noises: Thumping noises are normal due to the belt riding over rollers, especially on new treadmills. This noise diminishes over time.
  • Loudness: Products may seem quieter in stores due to ambient noise and room acoustics. A rubber mat may help reduce floor reverberation. Placing the unit near a wall can increase reflected noise.
  • When to Worry: Noises are normal if they are no louder than a normal conversational tone.

Troubleshooting - Treadmill

  • Problem: Banding straps removed before assembly, machine sprung open, cannot assemble. Solution: Air shocks engaged prematurely. Tilt machine on its nose by lifting the deck. Step on the foot latch and fold deck horizontally. Proceed with assembly.
  • Problem: Console does not light up and/or belt does not move. Solution:
    • Check if the red light on the ON/OFF switch is lit.
    • If YES: Ensure all connections are secure (especially console cable). Unplug/reconnect cable. Check for pinched/damaged cable. Turn off power, unplug, wait 60 seconds. Remove motor cover, wait for LEDs to turn off. Check for loose wires on the lower board.
    • If NO: Verify outlet is functional. Check breaker is not tripped, it's on a dedicated 20-amp circuit, not a GFCI outlet, and not plugged into a power strip/surge protector or extension cord. Ensure power cord is not damaged and is properly plugged in. Ensure power switch is ON.
  • Problem: Treadmill circuit breaker trips during workout. Solution: Ensure treadmill is plugged into a dedicated 20-amp circuit. Do not use extension cords, surge protectors, or GFCI outlets.
  • Problem: Running belt does not stay centered. Solution: Ensure the treadmill is on a level surface. Verify belt is properly tightened and centered (refer to Adjustment section).
  • Problem: Operating speed appears inaccurate. Solution: Auto-calibrate: Power on, safety key in. Press and hold Elevation "+" and Speed "-" for 5 seconds to enter Engineering Mode ("ENG0"). Press Speed "+" or "-" until "ENG2" appears, then press ENTER. Press START. The belt will move for auto-calibration. The console will beep upon completion.

WARNING: DO NOT stand on the running belt while calibrating; stand on guide rails. Treadmill speed will fluctuate.

Troubleshooting - Heart Rate

Interference from fluorescent lights, computers, security systems, or large motors can cause erratic heart rate readings. Other causes include:

  • Gripping pulse handlebars too tightly. Maintain moderate pressure.
  • Constant movement/vibration from holding grips. Hold only long enough to monitor heart rate.
  • Heavy breathing during workouts.
  • Constricted hands (rings).
  • Dry or cold hands. Moisten palms.
  • Heavy arrhythmia.
  • Arteriosclerosis or peripheral circulation disorder.
  • Thick skin on palms.

If problems persist, discontinue use, turn off power, and contact Customer Tech Support.
