Compliance with EC Directive (CE Marking)
This product complies with EC directives. However, the overall mechanical system's compliance must be checked by the user/manufacturer. Consult your local Mitsubishi Electric representative for more information.
Caution for compliance with EC Directive
- Use the FX5-1PSU-5V within conductive shielded control panels in a general industrial environment.
- Programmable controllers are open-type devices requiring installation within conductive control panels. Ensure the control box lid is secured to prevent noise interference.
- Use control panels with sufficient strength, fire protection, and shielding properties.
Caution for compliance with the LVD directive (EN61010-2-201:2013)
- For external connection ports other than AC power supply and AC input/output, use circuits separated by double/reinforced insulation.
- Do not wire multiple crimp terminals to a single terminal; use an external terminal if necessary.
- Use products with insulating sleeves for wiring with 30 V AC or higher.
- Install a cutoff device (breaker or circuit protector) compliant with EN60947-1 or EN60947-3 standards, ensuring it is easily operable and designated for this equipment.

Compliance with UKCA Marking
Requirements for UKCA marking are the same as for EC directive (CE marking).
1. Outline
The FX5-1PSU-5V is an extension power supply module used when the internal power supply of the FX5UJ/FX5U CPU module is insufficient for output or intelligent function modules. It can be used as a single unit with FX5UJ CPU modules. With FX5U CPU modules, up to two units (FX5-1PSU-5V or FX3U-1PSU-5V) can be used per system. Refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware) for installation, wiring, and system configuration details.

1.2 External Dimensions, Part Names and Terminal Layout

2. Installation
INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
[Warning]:
- Cut off all power supply phases externally before installation or wiring to prevent electric shock or product damage.
- Use the product within the specified generic environment conditions. Avoid areas with excessive dust, oily smoke, conductive dusts, corrosive gases, flammable gas, vibration, impacts, high temperature, condensation, rain, or wind, as these can cause electric shock, fire, malfunctions, or damage.
INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
[Caution]:
- Do not touch conductive parts directly to avoid device failure or malfunction.
- When drilling or wiring, ensure debris does not enter ventilation slits to prevent fire or equipment failure.
- If a dust proof sheet is provided, affix it to ventilation slits during installation/wiring to prevent foreign objects. Remove it after installation to ensure adequate ventilation. Failure to do so may cause fire or malfunctions.
- Install the product on a flat surface; rough surfaces can cause nonconformities.
- Securely install using a DIN rail or mounting screws.
- Use a screwdriver carefully during installation to prevent product damage or accidents.
- Connect extension cables, peripheral device cables, and I/O cables securely to their designated connectors to prevent malfunctions.
Notes
- Keep the dust proof sheet applied to ventilation slits during installation and wiring if provided.
- To prevent temperature rise, do not install the PLC on floors, ceilings, or vertical surfaces; install horizontally on a wall.
- Maintain a minimum 50 mm space between the module and other devices/structures. Keep modules away from high-voltage lines, devices, and power equipment to prevent fire.
2.1 Arrangements
The product connects to the right side of a CPU module or extension module. Refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware) for arrangement details.
2.2 Mounting
Mounting is done via direct mounting (with M4 screws) or DIN rail mounting.
2.2.1 Direct Mounting (with M4 screws)
Use the direct mounting holes (M4 screws). Refer to Section 1.2 for mounting hole pitch. Maintain approximately 2 mm gap between products. Refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware) for further installation details.
2.2.2 DIN Rail Mounting
Diagram Description: A sequence of illustrations shows the DIN rail mounting process. 1. Connect the extension cable (A) to the CPU module or extension module on the left. For FX5-32E, tuck the pullout tab inside the connector cover. For other modules, pull the tab out to the right. Refer to the manual for details. 2. Connect the other end of the extension cable (A) to the FX5-1PSU-5V's extension connector. Tuck the pullout tab (B) inside the top cover. 3. Push out the DIN rail mounting hook. 4. Fit the upper edge of the DIN rail mounting groove (C) onto the DIN rail. 5. Press the product against the DIN rail. 6. Lock the DIN rail mounting hook while pressing the product against the DIN rail. Maintain a gap of approximately 2 mm between products.
Cautions on mounting and removing extension cables:
- Ensure pullout tabs do not contact conductive parts of the module.
- When removing, pull the extension cable's pullout tab straight up.
3. Wiring
WIRING PRECAUTIONS
[Warning]:
- Cut off all power supply phases externally before installation or wiring to prevent electric shock or product damage.
- Attach the terminal cover before turning on power or operating after wiring to prevent electric shock.
- Wire screw terminal blocks carefully to prevent electric shock, equipment failure, short-circuits, wire breakage, malfunctions, or damage. Follow manual specifications for cable end disposal, tightening torque (0.5 to 0.8 N·m for M3 screws), and use a Phillips-head screwdriver No. 2 (≤ 6 mm shaft diameter), ensuring it does not touch terminal block partitions.
WIRING PRECAUTIONS
[Caution]:
- Perform Class D grounding (resistance ≤ 100 Ω) on the CPU module and extension modules using a wire ≥ 2 mm². Do not use common grounding with heavy electrical systems (refer to Section 3.3).
- Connect power supply wiring to the dedicated terminals. Connecting AC power to DC input/output or DC power supply terminals will cause the PLC to burn out.
- To prevent machinery damage or accidents due to PLC malfunction from noise, observe the following:
- Do not bundle power lines, control lines, or communication cables with main circuits, high-voltage lines, load lines, or power lines. Lay them at least 100 mm away.
- Ground shielded wires/cables at one point on the PLC. Do not use common grounding with heavy electrical systems.
3.1 Applicable Cable and Terminal Tightening Torque
Terminal screws are M3. Tighten to 0.5 to 0.8 N·m. Failure to do so may cause failures.

3.2 Power Supply Wiring
Refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware) for power supply wiring.
Caution:
- Turn the FX5-1PSU-5V power supply ON simultaneously with or before the CPU module. Turn all power OFF simultaneously. Refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware) for details.
- Position grounding and power cables to exit the module from above, as shown in the figure.

When connecting an input module to the FX5-1PSU-5V, supply input circuit power from the 24 V DC service power supply of the preceding CPU module or an external power supply.
3.3 Grounding
Ground the PLC as follows:
- Perform Class D grounding (resistance ≤ 100 Ω).
- Ground the PLC independently if possible. If not, ground it jointly as shown below. Refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware) for details.

- Use ground wires thicker than AWG14 (2 mm²).
- Position the grounding point as close to the PLC as possible to minimize ground wire length.
4. Specification
DESIGN PRECAUTIONS
[Warning]:
- Implement external safety circuits (emergency stop, protection, interlock) to ensure safe system operation during power supply problems or PLC failure.
- When the CPU module detects an error (e.g., watchdog timer error), all outputs turn off. Errors not detected by the CPU module may disable output control. Design external circuits to ensure safe machinery operation in such cases.
- If an error occurs in an output circuit relay, transistor, or triac, the output may remain on or off. Design external circuits for safe operation where such outputs could lead to serious accidents.
DESIGN PRECAUTIONS
[Caution]:
- Simultaneously turn ON and OFF the power supplies of the CPU module and extension modules.
STARTUP AND MAINTENANCE PRECAUTIONS
[Caution]:
- Do not disassemble or modify the PLC; this may cause fire, equipment failure, or malfunctions. Contact your local Mitsubishi Electric representative for repairs.
- Do not drop or impact the product, as this may cause damage.
- Do not use chemicals for cleaning.
- If there is a possibility of touching the PLC inside a control panel during maintenance, discharge static electricity first.
DISPOSAL PRECAUTIONS
[Caution]:
- Contact a certified electronic waste disposal company for environmentally safe recycling and disposal.
TRANSPORTATION PRECAUTIONS
[Caution]:
- This product is a precision instrument. Avoid impacts exceeding general specifications during transportation by using dedicated packaging. Failure to do so may cause product failures. Verify operation and check for damage after transportation.

Note for system configuration
For further details on system configuration, refer to the MELSEC iQ-F FX5S/FX5UJ/FX5U/FX5UC User's Manual (Hardware).
- In the FX5UJ CPU module, only one FX5-1PSU-5V can be used per system.
- In the FX5U CPU module, up to two units (FX5-1PSU-5V or FX3U-1PSU-5V) can be used per system.
- The total current consumption of extension modules connected to FX5-1PSU-5V must not exceed its output current capacity. When connecting an input module, supply input circuit power from the preceding CPU module's 24 V DC service power supply or an external power supply.
- Do not use FX5-1PSU-5V with a CPU module (DC power supply type).
Warranty
Exclusion of loss in opportunity and secondary loss from warranty liability. Mitsubishi shall not be liable for compensation to:
- Damages caused by any cause not the responsibility of Mitsubishi.
- Loss in opportunity, lost profits incurred to the user by failures of Mitsubishi products.
- Special damages and secondary damages, whether foreseeable or not, compensation for accidents, and compensation for damages to products other than Mitsubishi products.
- Replacement by the user, maintenance of on-site equipment, start-up test run, and other tasks.

- This product is a general-purpose part for general industries and is not designed for use in systems related to human life.
