General Information
Familiarize yourself with the four duct alignment bracket assemblies before installation. Two assemblies are for the left side and two for the right side, as depicted in Figures 1 and 2.
The unit's footprint is wider and longer than the roof curb. The duct alignment brackets provide a 0.25-inch clearance to the roof curb. Installation requires connecting the brackets to the base, necessitating access to the base. It is recommended to support the unit on blocks at least 6 inches high from the ground during installation.
Warnings, Cautions, and Notices
Read this manual thoroughly before operating or servicing the unit. Safety advisories are provided throughout the manual. Personal safety and proper operation depend on strict observance of these precautions.
Advisory Definitions:
- WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
- CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury, or alert against unsafe practices.
- NOTICE: Indicates a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage only accidents.
Important Environmental Concerns
Certain man-made chemicals, including CFCs and HCFCs, can affect the stratospheric ozone layer. Trane advocates responsible handling of all refrigerants, including industry replacements like HCFCs and HFCs.
Important Responsible Refrigerant Practices
Trane emphasizes responsible refrigerant practices for environmental, customer, and industry benefit. All technicians handling refrigerants must be certified according to local rules. In the USA, the Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) mandates requirements for handling, reclaiming, recovering, and recycling refrigerants and related equipment. Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Installation Steps
- Remove the fork bracket, front base plate, base board, and base shipping bracket as shown in Figure 3. These parts can be discarded.
- Install the four duct alignment brackets as illustrated in Figures 4 (details A and B). Align the label on the brackets with the slots on the base rail (Figure 4, detail C). The right-side brackets use three screws, and the left-side brackets use four screws.
- Follow the Installation Operation Manual (IOM) for unit rigging. Use the installed brackets for alignment when placing the unit on the curb. The unit may tilt on the compressor end; refer to the IOM for center of gravity information and use that end to align the curb alignment brackets with the curb.
- Figures 5, 6, and 7 show the unit installed on the roof curb and a cross-section of the duct alignment bracket and roof curb.
- Remove the horizontal return duct cover panel and filter access panel to access the return duct cover. Move the return duct cover from one duct opening to the other, as shown in Figure 8.
- Replace the horizontal return duct cover panel and filter access panel.
