02 Product Overview
Top View
Button (Function): Powers on the Soundbar when it is in standby mode. Changes the signal source.
+ Button (Volume): Adjusts the volume.
Microphone Button: Turns the microphone on or off. The LED indicator is red when the microphone is off.
Note: Press and hold the Microphone button for at least 3 seconds to enter BT PAIRING mode.
Display
Shows the status or current mode. (e.g., TV ARC/eARC, HDMI, Wi-Fi, BT, D.IN)
Note: After powering on the Soundbar, sound may take 4-5 seconds to appear. If sound plays simultaneously from the TV and Soundbar, access the TV's sound settings and select 'External Speaker' instead of the TV speaker.
03 Using the Remote Control
How to Use the Remote Control
1. Install Batteries: Open the battery cover, insert AAA batteries (1.5V) correctly, and close the cover.
Power Button: Turns the Soundbar on or off. The Soundbar automatically turns off after 18 minutes of inactivity in standby mode.
Source Button: Selects the connected device.
Mute Button: Turns the sound on or off.
Volume Buttons (+/-): Adjusts the volume.
Sound Mode Button: Selects sound modes: Standard, Surround, Game Pro, Adaptive Sound.
Information Button (i): Displays codec or status information. Shows 'Need Pairing' or 'Paired' for Bluetooth devices.
Tone Control Button: Adjusts treble and bass levels (-6 to +6).
Woofer Button: Adjusts the subwoofer volume.
Channel Level Button: Adjusts individual speaker levels (Center, Side, Wide, Front Top, Rear, Rear Top, Rear Side).
Navigation Buttons (Up/Down/Left/Right): Navigate menus and skip tracks.
Play/Pause Button: Starts or pauses playback.
ID SET Button: Used for manual connection of subwoofer and surround speakers. Press and hold the Up button for 5 seconds while the Soundbar is off.

Sound Settings Explained
SpaceFit Sound Pro: Analyzes your listening environment and optimizes sound.
AVA (Active Voice Amplifier) Pro: Enhances voice clarity by analyzing ambient noise.
Voice Enhance: Improves dialogue intelligibility.
Night Mode: Optimizes sound for late-night listening by reducing volume and enhancing dialogue clarity.
Sound Grouping: Optimizes sound for group listening in large spaces.
Private Rear: Outputs sound only through the rear speakers.
Q-Symphony: Allows simultaneous sound playback from both the Soundbar and compatible TV speakers.
Sync: Adjusts audio delay if sound and video are not synchronized.
Virtual: Creates an immersive sound experience with compatible surround sound formats.
Moderate Bass: Disables the subwoofer and outputs bass through the Soundbar.
Note: Some features may vary by model. Refer to the manual for specific details.
04 Connecting the Soundbar to Other Devices
Connecting Power and Devices
Connect the subwoofer, surround speakers, and Soundbar to power outlets in the following order:
- Connect the power cord to the subwoofer.
- Connect the power cords to the left and right surround speakers.
- Connect the power cord to the Soundbar.
- Connect the Soundbar, subwoofer, and surround speakers to the power outlet. The Soundbar, subwoofer, and surround speakers will automatically connect when the Soundbar is powered on.
Note: If the Soundbar is disconnected from the power outlet while powered on, it will automatically turn on when reconnected.
Connecting Subwoofer and Surround Speakers Manually
Preparation for Manual Connection:
- Ensure the Soundbar, subwoofer, and surround speakers are connected to power.
- Ensure the Soundbar is powered on.
- Press and hold the ID SET button on the back of the subwoofer and surround speakers for at least 5 seconds. The red indicator on each speaker will turn off, and the blue indicator will start blinking rapidly.
- Press and hold the Up button on the remote control for 5 seconds. The Soundbar display will briefly show 'ID SET' and then turn off. The Soundbar will automatically turn on after the ID SET message appears.
- Ensure the LINK indicator LED is solid blue, indicating a successful connection.
Note: Surround speakers may not be included depending on the model. To reset the transmitter, turn off the Soundbar, press and hold the Left button on the remote for 5 seconds, then follow the manual connection steps.
05 Connecting to the TV
Connecting to a TV with HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)
Warning: If both HDMI and optical cables are connected, the HDMI signal takes priority. Ensure the HDMI cable is connected to the ARC port. Using the wrong port will prevent TV audio from playing.
- Turn off the Soundbar and TV, then connect the HDMI cable as shown.
- Turn on the Soundbar and TV. The Soundbar display will show 'TV ARC', and TV audio will play through the Soundbar.
Note: If TV audio does not play, press the Function button or Source button on the remote and select 'TV ARC'. If your TV supports eARC, the display will show 'TV eARC'. Ensure eARC is enabled in your TV's settings. For Samsung TVs: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Expert Settings → HDMI-eARC Mode (Auto). If 'TV ARC' does not appear, check the HDMI cable connection. You can adjust the Soundbar volume using your TV's remote control.
Connecting via Optical Cable
Before Connecting:
- If both HDMI and optical cables are connected, HDMI takes priority.
- Remove the protective cap from the optical cable before use.
- Turn off the TV and Soundbar, then connect the optical cable to the DIGITAL AUDIO IN (OPTICAL) port on the Soundbar and the OPTICAL OUT port on the external device.
- Turn on the Soundbar and external device.
- Select 'D.IN' by pressing the Function or Source button on the remote.
- TV audio will play through the Soundbar.
06 Connecting to an External Device
Connecting via HDMI Cable
Before Connecting:
- Turn off any advanced audio settings.
- Ensure the content supports Dolby Atmos® / DTS:X.
- Use an HDMI cable that meets the required specifications.
- For UHD signals, use an HDMI-certified cable.
- Connect the HDMI cable from the external device's HDMI OUT port to the Soundbar's HDMI IN port.
- Connect the supplied HDMI cable from the TV's HDMI IN port to the Soundbar's HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC) port.
- Turn on the Soundbar, TV, and external device.
- Select HDMI or HDMI1/HDMI2 by pressing the Function or Source button on the remote.
- The selected mode will appear on the Soundbar display, and audio will play.
Note: Technical specifications may vary based on the connected external device or usage conditions. For Dolby Atmos® / DTS:X, refer to page 6. The display shows 'DOLBY ATMOS' or 'DTS:X' when these formats are active. For BD players, set audio output to 'Bitstream (Unprocessed)'.
Technical Specifications for Supported UHD Signals (3840 x 2160p)
Refer to the tables provided in the original document for detailed specifications regarding frame rates, color depth, and color subsampling for different Soundbar models (HW-Q990F/HW-Q900F and HW-Q930F/HW-Q800F).
07 Connecting a Mobile Device
Connecting via Bluetooth
Connect your mobile device to the Soundbar via Bluetooth for wireless stereo sound.
First-time Bluetooth Connection:
- Press the PAIR button on the remote to enter BT PAIRING mode. Alternatively, press and hold the Microphone button on the Soundbar for 3 seconds until 'BT PAIRING' appears.
- Open the Bluetooth menu on your Samsung TV or mobile device and select 'Soundbar Q-Series'.
- Once connected, the Soundbar display will show '[TV name] → BT' or '[Mobile device name] → BT'. You can now listen to TV or mobile audio through the Soundbar.
Note: If the Soundbar was previously paired, it will connect in BT READY mode. If you need to pair a new device, use BT PAIRING mode.
Differences Between BT READY and BT PAIRING Modes
- BT READY: Connects to previously paired devices.
- BT PAIRING: Connects to new devices.
Bluetooth Connection Precautions
- Keep the device within 1 meter of the Soundbar.
- Enter '0000' if prompted for a PIN code.
- The Soundbar will automatically turn off after 18 minutes of inactivity.
- Ensure no other electronic devices or routers are causing interference.
- Keep devices away from microwave ovens and wireless routers.
- The Soundbar supports SBC (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz) and A2DP profile.
- Ensure devices are close to each other for optimal connection.
- Avoid body contact with the transmitter/receiver or placing the Soundbar on metal furniture.
Disconnecting a Bluetooth Device
To disconnect, switch the Soundbar to any mode other than BT.
Connecting via Wi-Fi (Wireless Network)
Before Connecting:
- Only Samsung TVs can be connected via Wi-Fi.
- Ensure your Wi-Fi router is on and your TV is connected to it.
- Connect the TV and Soundbar to the same Wi-Fi network.
- If your Wi-Fi router uses a DFS channel, Wi-Fi connection may not be possible.
1. Install SmartThings App: Download and install the SmartThings app on your mobile device.
2. Register Device: Launch SmartThings, follow the on-screen instructions to register your Soundbar. If a pop-up window does not appear, go to the home screen, tap '+', and register the device.
Note: You can also register your Soundbar by scanning the QR code.
Using Q-Symphony Function
This feature allows simultaneous audio playback from the Soundbar and compatible Samsung TV speakers for a more immersive sound experience. It requires a Wi-Fi or HDMI connection.
Using SpaceFit Sound Pro Function
This feature analyzes your listening environment using the Soundbar's microphone to optimize sound automatically.
Method 1: Soundbar Connection
- Press the Sound Mode button and turn on SpaceFit Sound Pro. The display will show 'SPACEFIT SOUND PRO OFF'.
- Press the Up button on the remote to turn it ON. The display will show 'ON'.
- Press the Down button to turn it OFF.
Method 2: TV Connection
Enable 'Adaptive Sound+' in your Samsung TV's settings (Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → General → AI Mode Settings → Adaptive Sound+). This will automatically set the Soundbar to Adaptive Sound mode.
08 Installing the Soundbar on the Wall
Safety Precautions for Wall Mounting
- Mount the Soundbar only on a vertical wall.
- Avoid installing in areas with high temperature or humidity.
- Ensure the wall can support the Soundbar's weight. Reinforce the wall if necessary.
- Use screws or anchors suitable for your wall type (drywall, steel, wood).
- Screw directly into wall studs whenever possible.
- Turn off power and disconnect the Soundbar before wall mounting to avoid electric shock.
- Connect all external device cables before mounting the Soundbar.

Installation Steps
- Attach the wall mounting bracket to the wall, ensuring it is level. If mounting below a TV, ensure at least 5 cm clearance.
- Align the bracket's center line with the center of your TV or desired mounting area.
- Mark the screw hole positions and remove the bracket.
- Drill holes in the wall at the marked positions.
- Insert screws through the screw holders and secure them to the wall.
- Attach the 2 mounting brackets to the bottom of the Soundbar using 2 screws. Ensure the brackets are oriented correctly.
- Hang the Soundbar onto the screw holders. Insert the screw holders into the wider (bottom) slots of the mounting brackets, ensure they are securely attached, and slide the brackets down.
Note: Ensure the wall is strong enough. Samsung is not responsible for any damage caused by improper installation. Do not mount speakers sideways or upside down.
Installing Surround Speakers on the Wall
Wall mounting brackets for surround speakers must be purchased separately. Samsung Electronics does not sell these brackets.
Notes for Wall Mounting Surround Speakers
- The wall must support at least 8 kg.
- The screw hole size should be suitable for 1/4 – 20 UNC screws (standard screw: ø 6.35 mm, pitch 1.27 mm).
- Use one screw for the left and one for the right speaker.
09 Installing the Soundbar on the TV Stand
Details
- Rubber Feet (x4)
Installation Steps
- Attach the rubber feet to the bottom of the Soundbar before placing it on the TV stand. Ensure the feet do not extend beyond the edge of the stand.
- Place the Soundbar on the TV stand, aligning the center of the Soundbar with the center of the TV.
Note: Ensure the microphone is not blocked by the TV stand to avoid voice recognition issues. Keep the Soundbar at least 2 cm away from the TV for optimal microphone performance.
10 Software Update
Automatic Update
If the Soundbar is connected to the internet, its software will update automatically, even when powered off. Ensure the Soundbar remains connected to Wi-Fi.
USB Update
Samsung may release firmware updates to improve system performance. You can update the firmware using a USB flash drive.
- Visit the Samsung website (www.samsung.com) and find your Soundbar model in the customer support section.
- Download the firmware update file for USB.
- Extract the downloaded zip file into a new folder with the same name.
- Save the folder to a USB flash drive and connect it to the Soundbar.
- Power on the Soundbar. The display will show 'UPDATE' for 3 minutes while the update proceeds.
Caution: Do not turn off the power or disconnect the USB drive during the update. If 'UPDATE' does not appear, reconnect the power cord. If the latest firmware is already installed, the update will not run. Some USB drives may not be compatible.
Security Update Information
Security updates enhance device and personal data protection. Visit https://security.samsungtv.com for more information.
Resetting
With the Soundbar powered on, press and hold the Volume buttons (+/-) simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. The display will show 'INIT', and the reset will be performed. This will reset all Soundbar settings. Only reset if necessary.
11 Troubleshooting
Power Not Turning On
- Ensure the power cord is securely connected to the Soundbar.
- Disconnect and reconnect the power cord.
Some Functions Not Working Properly
- Turn the connected external device off and on again.
- The Soundbar may automatically turn off if there is no input signal. Turn it back on.
Remote Control Not Working Properly
- Point the remote directly at the Soundbar from a close distance and press the buttons.
- Replace the batteries.
Soundbar Indicator Remains Red
- The microphone is muted. The indicator turns off when the microphone is unmuted.
No Sound Output from Soundbar
- Check if the volume is too low or muted. Adjust the volume.
- If external devices are connected, adjust their volume as well.
- Ensure the TV's audio output is set to the Soundbar. (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Sound Output → Select Soundbar)
- Check the cable connections. Disconnect and reconnect the cable.
- Disconnect and reconnect the power cord, then turn on the Soundbar.
- Reset the Soundbar settings and try again (see page 24).
No Sound from Subwoofer or Surround Speakers
- Check if the LINK indicator LED on the subwoofer or surround speakers is solid blue. If it is blinking blue or red, reconnect the Soundbar to the subwoofer and surround speakers (see page 9).
- Ensure there are no obstructions between the Soundbar and the subwoofer.
- Move the subwoofer to a location without obstructions.
- Keep the Soundbar and speakers away from devices that emit radio frequency signals.
Subwoofer or Surround Speakers Produce Noise or Intermittent Sound
- Ensure there are no obstructions between the Soundbar and the subwoofer.
- Move the subwoofer closer if it is too far from the Soundbar.
- Keep the Soundbar away from devices that cause radio interference (e.g., wireless routers).
- Try connecting via a wired network instead of wireless.
Subwoofer Sound is Too Quiet
- Adjust the subwoofer volume using the Woofer button on the remote.
- Move the subwoofer closer to your listening position.
TV Not Connecting via HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC)
- Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to the ARC or eARC port (see page 12).
- Disconnect any other devices connected to the TV (set-top boxes, game consoles) and connect only the Soundbar.
- Ensure HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) is enabled in your TV's settings. (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Connection → External Device Manager → Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) ON)
- Ensure eARC is enabled in your TV's settings if you are using eARC. (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Expert Settings → HDMI-eARC Mode (Auto))
No Sound When TV is Connected via HDMI TO TV (eARC/ARC)
- Change the TV's audio output to PCM or Dolby Digital. (Samsung TV: Home → Menu → Settings → All Settings → Sound → Expert settings → Digital Output Audio Format)
Bluetooth Connection Failure
- Ensure the device is in BT PAIRING mode.
- If the Soundbar is connected to another device, disconnect it first.
- Remove the Soundbar from the Bluetooth device's list of paired devices and reconnect.
- Ensure 'ON-TV CONNECT' is enabled in the Soundbar's Bluetooth settings.
- Disconnect and reconnect the power.
- Reset the Soundbar settings and try again (see page 24).
Intermittent Bluetooth Sound
- Keep the Soundbar away from devices that cause radio interference.
- Move the connected device closer to the Soundbar.
- Avoid body contact with the transmitter/receiver or placing the Soundbar on metal furniture.
Wi-Fi Connection Failure
- Ensure your Wi-Fi router is on. Restart the router and try reconnecting.
- If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, move the router closer or to a location with fewer obstructions.
- If you have a new router, you may need to reconfigure the network settings for the Soundbar (see page 19, 'Changing Wi-Fi Network').
- The Soundbar does not support Wi-Fi 6.
TV and Soundbar Connected, but No Sound from TV Speakers
- If the Soundbar is disconnected from the mobile device, the TV audio will play through the Soundbar again.
Soundbar Not Appearing in AirPlay
- Ensure you have agreed to the Samsung SmartThings app terms and registered the device.
- AirPlay will not work if the Soundbar is removed from the SmartThings app.
- Verify that the Soundbar and Apple device are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- The Soundbar is compatible with AirPlay on iOS 13.4 or later.
TV Not Displaying UHD Signal
- Adjust TV or source device settings. Refer to your TV or device manual.
- Ensure your HDMI cable is certified by HDMI.org (HW-Q990F/Q900F models only).
Group Play Function Not Working
- Ensure you are using a compatible audio device model released in 2024 or later.
- Verify the source device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Ensure audio devices are connected to the same 5 GHz Wi-Fi network.
Soundbar Does Not Turn On Automatically with TV
- If the Soundbar is turned off before the TV, the Auto Power Link function will disable. Turn off the TV first.
AVA Pro Function Not Available
- The AVA Pro function cannot be used when the microphone is muted.
