Front and Rear Panel
Front Panel
The DMA 8X8 is designed for 19" rack mounting. The front panel features:
- PWR LED: Indicates the unit is switched on.
- STATUS LED: Indicates the operation status. It toggles between green and unlit when configured, or stays permanently lit if reset to factory settings.
Rear Panel
The rear panel provides comprehensive connectivity:
- Main Socket: IEC-C14 for AC power (230 Vac / 50Hz, 40W). 110V operation is optional.
- Ethernet Connector (RJ45): 10/100 Base-T for IP-based PC software control and network connectivity.
- GPIO: 6-bit 3.81mm terminal for 4 input/output logic control signals (0-5 VDC).
- RS-485 Port: For serial communication (Tx/Rx) with third-party control devices, supporting voice tracking and bus input control.
- RS-232 Port: For serial communication (Tx/Rx) with third-party control devices.
- USB Audio Port: Type B connector for USB soundcard functionality (1-in-1-out).
- Signal Input & Output Terminals: 2 x 12-pin Phoenix terminal blocks for 8 balanced analogue MIC/LINE inputs and 8 balanced analogue outputs.
Connections
Audio Input Connections
The DMA 8X8 features 8 balanced analogue MIC/LINE inputs via removable 12-pin Phoenix terminal strips. Input sensitivity supports microphone or line-level signals with nominal levels from 0dBu to 43dBu. +48VDC phantom power is available per input. Preamp gain and phantom power are controlled via the Tecnare DSP Controller software.
Audio Output Connections
The unit provides 8 balanced analogue outputs via removable 12-pin Phoenix terminal strips. The output section is calibrated to +4dBu with 20dB headroom, meaning 0dBFS digital signal equals +24dBu output.
Audio Wiring Reference
Balanced Connection: For XLR connectors, HOT (+ or 'in phase') connects to pin 2, COLD (- or 'out of phase') connects to pin 3, and GND connects to pin 1. The input cable shield should connect to Pin 1 for EMC performance.
Unbalanced Connection: Not recommended. If used, the signal conductor connects to XLR pin 2, and the 'Cold' conductor/cable screen connects to pin 1, with a short connection between pin 1 and pin 3.
Ethernet Port
The RJ45 Ethernet port enables programming and control via the Tecnare DSP Controller software. It supports direct point-to-point connection or network connection. IP address configuration is necessary for communication.
RS-232 and RS-485 Ports
These ports facilitate serial communication with external control devices. Specifications for baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow control are provided for both RS-232 and RS-485 connections, including wiring diagrams for DB9 connectors.
GPIO Remote Control Port
The DMA 8X8 offers 4-channel logic input/output via GPIO terminals. Inputs accept 0-5 VDC control voltage, and outputs are 0-5 V NO/NC relay outputs, configurable for various functions.
USB Soundcard
The USB Type-B port functions as a USB soundcard for recording and broadcasting audio with PCs. Drivers install automatically upon connection.
Typical Application Example
The DMA 8X8 can be used to connect microphones to amplifiers. Remote controls can be daisy-chained for functions like preset setup, volume control, and source selection via UDP.
Control Panels
Panel A-DMA8X8
Features 8 buttons and 1 rotary knob for functions like gain adjustment, volume, mute, preset selection, and command. Connected via Ethernet and supplied by PoE.
Panel B-DMA8X8
Features a 1.3" OLED screen and an encoder knob for menu navigation, parameter adjustment, and configuration. Connected via Ethernet and supplied by PoE.
